PLASMA AND BLOOD DRIVE AT ARIEL

Plasma transfusions have been successfully used to treat severely ill COVID-19 patients. But there is a shortage of qualified plasma as well as a severe shortage of blood. As a

response, the Atlanta Jewish community has put together a number of blood drives. The next one will be at Ariel on Tuesday, June 2nd from 12 noon to 7 PM. One blood donation can save three lives and one plasma donation can be used for two COVID patients. By participating in this initiative, you can save a lot of lives! Pre-registration required. For more info and to register go to www.gaplasma.org

SPECIAL MESSAGE ABOUT KASHRUT HECHSHERS FROM RABBI FRIEDMAN The pandemic is impacting all areas of our lives. One area is the disruption of the supply chain. This disruption not only has consumers searching for the products they want, it has sent producers scrambling to find the ingredients to produce those products. The OU has issued an advisory that they are removing their hechsher from some products because the producers are switching to either non-kosher or unsupervised suppliers. Of course it is hoped these disruptions will be temporary, but in the meantime don’t assume the hechsher that was on a product previously is still there. If there is already a hechsher on a product, there is no reason to doubt the kashrut of the item. As always if you have any questions feel free to give me a call.

FASCINATING FACTS IN JEWISH HISTORY

On Iyar 29 in the secular year 1815, a number of allied countries defeated Napoleon at Water-loo. The defeat at Waterloo marked the end for Napoleon and the French dreams of world domi-nation. All of this is well known. What is not as well known is that Waterloo marks the ascenden-cy of the Rothschild family to world domination in International finance. Mayer Amschel Rothschild had made a good bit of money as a pawnbroker/moneylender in Ger-many. He had sons whom he dispatched to various European capitals to set up Rotshchild bank-ing houses. Son Nathan was sent to London. While in London Nathen came up with a plan to centralize the wool textile industry. Although it caused huge social upheaval in England, Nathan made a small fortune off of it. The Rothschilds became known as shrewd investors. They always seemed to be one step ahead of the news. What most did not know was that the Rothschilds operated a sophisticated intelli-gence network with offices across Europe sharing information. As Napoleon amassed a huge army, the other nations of Europe did the same. The Rothschilds became financiers for both sides as they would continue to do in all conflicts for the next 100 years. In June 1815 Napoleon invaded Belgium and things came to ahead. On June 16 Napoleon defeat-ed the Prussians under general Blucher at Ligny. On the 18th he engaged the British at Waterloo. The previous evening the area had been saturated by heavy rain. Napoleon waited until noon before ordering the attack to give the battlefield time to dry. War colleges have dedicated count-less hours in the analysis of this decision. It seems that the delay gave Blucher’s defeated troops time to reorganize and rush to help the Duke of Wellington and his British forces. The battle raged and all of Europe waited to find out their fate. The Rothschilds didn’t wait. Their army of agents was deployed and their communications appa-ratus was in place - carrier pigeons. Pigeons were dispatched to bring the news in what was the closest thing to real-time that existed in 1815. Of course, others knew what they were up to and tried to capture the birds. The Rothschilds protected themselves by encoding all of their messag-es in Hebrew. As the battle turned against Napoleon, the pigeons brought the word to Nathan in London. Na-than immediately headed to the stock exchange. The exchange was packed with investors waiting for a shred of news. All eyes were upon him as he entered. Everyone knew Nathan had advance information. Nathan began selling his portfolio of British companies. Everyone followed suit. The British stock market crashed, wiping out huge fortunes. When Nathan determined that the market had reached bottom, he drew upon Rothschild family resources and issued buy orders. When it was all done Nathan Rothschild had purchased nearly the entire London stock exchange at bargain-basement prices. The Rothschilds increased their fortune many times over and the name Rothschild became syn-onymous with international finance. On the 29th of Iyar Napoleon and the Rothschilds, both met their Waterloo. Nathan Rothschild said Shalom Aleichem, Happy to meet you.
