Introduction
Welcome to the Pathways to Rural and Remote Orientation and Training (PaRROT) program.
Rural and remote health has a great deal to offer and you are invited to learn more about improving the health of the community in which you will be working.
The PaRROT eLearning site has been developed to provide orientation and training about your role, working with health care providers in the team, resources, and how to prevent and manage chronic disease using a primary health care approach. Working in primary health care and rural and remote health is both rewarding and challenging. We hope the experience is valuable for your professional and personal growth and that you find this resource useful.
PaRROT offers flexible modes of delivery including:
Online – self-directed learning Workshop - facilitator training provided by PaRROT eManual - completion at own pace Workbook - completion at own pace Podcast - for use with personal audio devices DVD – self-directed learning (internet access required) Text Reader - for visually impaired users
PaRROT also has a Learning Community Discussion Forum, which is a place for you to communicate with others and make general comments, queries and view announcements.

Access
The PaRROT program is located on the Queensland Health internet site at www.health.qld.gov.au/parrot Here you have access to the PaRROT training courses, Introduction, (formerly known as “Orientation”), Orientation, (formerly known as “Induction”) and Professional Development, Your Learning Community Discussion forum and the PaRROT framework documentation.
An iLearning@QHealth login is required to access the entire PaRROT training course modules and the Your Learning Community Discussion forum.
iLearning@QHealth is a Queensland Health flexible education and training portal, which has been designed to allow all Queensland Health staff access to flexible learning opportunities. The PaRROT training program can be accessed from both work and at home, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. Non Queensland Health staff can gain access by contacting the PaRROT team on [email protected].

Login – Queensland Health Users
1. Click on the New User Login link on the PaRROT website.
2. You will then be redirected to the Queensland Health flexible education and training website iLearning@QHealth.
3. Read the instructions Is this your first time here? Then click on the Create new account button.
4. Complete the online form then click on the “Create my new account” button. A confirmation email will be sent to your email address.

5. Please note: If working outside Queensland Health, please contact the PaRROT team administrator - [email protected] (Refer Login – Non Queensland Health Users)
6. Confirmation email – You must confirm your new account by clicking on the web link provided in your confirmation email.

Click on the “Courses” button to commence training.
7. Select PaRROT – Rural and Remote Orientation and Training to commence your PaRROT training.
8. Click on the relevant training course (e.g. Orientation, Induction or Professional Development) to commence your training.

Breadcrumb navigation helps users find their way around a website. Its purpose is to reduce the number of actions a website user needs to take and indicators visually where the user is within a website. They are usually at the top left hand corner of a website.
For example:
Your Learning Discussion Forum is a place for you to communicate with others and make general comments, queries and view announcements. Once enrolled you can add a new discussion topic or join in to other discussions/topics that are of interest to you.

How to enrol
All learners are required to create a profile for each PaRROT training course prior to commencement. Please note: By creating a profile, you will be provided with an ACCESS KEY. Your access key is used to enrol in each training session and is case sensitive so MUST be entered in UPPER CASE.
1. Click on the Create Profile button within the relevant training course.
2. Select Yes to commence.

3. Select the PaRROT Profile link to create your profile.
4. Select “Attempt quiz now” to commence.

5. Please note: You have only 1 attempt at this quiz.
6. Once you have completed the enrolment quiz click Submit all and finish
7. Click OK to continue
8. NOTE: YOU WILL NOW HAVE YOUR ACCESS KEY CODE IN THE FEEDBACK SECTION. WRITE THIS CODE DOWN FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

9. Select Finish review to continue.
10. Once you have completed the quiz you will be provided with your access key in the Overall feedback. Please write your access key down for future reference as you will need this key for all the training modules for that particular course. Select the Continue button to return to the enrolment quiz course.

Introduction to PaRROT
1. OR101 – Introduction to Parrot is the first eLearning training session for the PaRROT Program. By now you would have:
• Received your enrolment key (Access key) • Download your learning plan • Familiarised yourself with your learning environment
If you have not completed all these steps please do so now.
2. Click on OR101 – Introduction to PaRROT to commence your training.

ELearning Sessions
Session Enrolment
Prior to commencing any PaRROT training sessions, you are required to enter an enrolment key (access key). Please refer to the Enrolment section (pg 6) of this manual for further details on how to achieve this.
Once you have your enrolment key, enter it into the field provided and press Enroll me in this course button.
Please note: The enrolment key is case sensitive and needs to be entered in UPPER CASE.

There are six (6) sections within the eLearning session.

Introduction
The introduction gives you an outline of the topic and your learning outcomes. It also includes an overview of the full session and all references used within the eLearning modules.

ELearning Modules
There are five (5) steps to complete within the eLearning Module. You CAN NOT move onto the next topic or receive your certificate until you have completed all relevant requirements.
Image 1 below demonstrates that you can only commence by completing the Pre-Session Quiz, whilst the other elements are grayed out. Once you have completed the Pre-Session Quiz the eLearning Modules will become accessible and there will be a tick next to the Pre-Session Quiz to indicate that it has been completed (Image 2).

Pre-Session Quiz
1. To commence click on the Pre-Session Quiz under the eLearning Module and the following message will appear.
Click on the Attempt quiz now button to commence quiz.
2. A pop-up message will appear informing you the number of attempts allowed for this quiz. Click OK to proceed.
3. Once you have completed the quiz click Submit all and finish button.
You can also click Save without submitting if you need to leave your work station and come back to it later. It does not close the quiz.

4. Once submitted the following message will be display. Click OK to continue.
5. The message below will appear – select Continue to commence your eLearning module.
ELearning Module
ELearning modules are animated presentations with audio. Once you have completed the Pre-Session Quiz you will have access to all of the eLearning modules within the training session.
1. To access click on the relevant eLearning module.

2. Click Enter to commence.
Please note: The eLearning modules are flash files (.swf), which need to be pre-loaded prior to commencing. The speed in which this will be done depends on your location and internet connection.

Module Completion
At the end of each eLearning module it is important to ensure that all of the slides have been viewed. Image 3 below shows that two (2) slides have been missed (no green tick). You will not be able to move onto the learning activity (pg 22), which is the next step within the relevant eLearning module, until all slides have been viewed and/or completed as shown in image 4.
Simply click on the slide that has not been viewed and proceed through the presentation. You should then receive a green tick once the slide has fully played through.

Exiting eLearning Module
Once you have completed the eLearning module, click on the Exit activity at the top right hand corner of your screen. This will return you to the PaRROT training session.

Learning Activity
1. Once the eLearning module has been completed a tick will be placed to indicate this process has been successfully completed and the learning activity will be activated.
2. Click on the eLearning module then select Attempt quiz now button.
3. The following message will appear highlighting how many attempts you are limited to and giving you the option to proceed with the new attempt or cancel.

Post-Session Quiz
The Post-Session Quiz is to measure how well we met your learning outcomes from the training session. It is separate from the session quiz. This quiz is matched against the Pre-Session Quiz. Please refer to the Pre-Session Quiz section (pg 12) within this manual.
Certificate of Completion
1. Once all the eLearning modules, learning activities and quizzes have been completed, you will have access to your session certificate. This is indicated by ticks on the right hand side.
2. Select the certificate link then click Get your certificate button as shown below.

Your Certificate of Completion will open in a separate window as a secured PDF file. It is also emailed directly to you. The certificate contains: your name; the course session title; course modules; date received and credited hours.

Self-paced and interactive printable manuals are for those learners who prefer not to do online learning and/or users of text readers. To receive your certificate you will need to receive you pre and post surveys and session quiz. Simply email your saved and completed manual back to [email protected]
Please follow the steps below on how to save and email your completed manual.

Accessing
PaRROT can be accessed from home and work – you will need an Internet Service provider (ISP). An ISP is a company that provides you with access to the Internet. PaRROT interactions are conducted entirely on the Internet so an ISP is required to gain access.
Network users: check with your network administrator to ensure you have full access to PaRROT services. You will also need an email address. Queensland Health network users have full access to PaRROT.
