KIDSTUFF: Preston Preschool & Tiny Tots

We have now started our summer sessions!! Students are reviewing the alphabet, numbers, shapes

and sounds. Due to the Summer Camp demand,

our Tiny Tots program is currently held at the

Hughbanks site only. Tiny Tots classes will resume at the Community Center on Monday, August 14th.

Fit4Kids: Fun & Fit Summer Camp

Our Monday-Thursday camp is currently full.

Our campers have been learning about the importance

of physical activity along with making healthier choices.

Daily tennis lessons and fitness classes are scheduled.

As part of our wellness activities campers are also

learning character building traits such as attentiveness,

courage, honesty, determination and more. A weekly

field trip to the swimming pool is one of our campers’

favorite activities.

School of Tennis The School of Tennis has begun offering tennis classes to adults this month. The classes are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:00am to 8:30am. Aside from the new adult program The School of Tennis continues to offer Jr. Tennis classes for 6 to 10 year olds, youth tennis classes for 11 to 17 year olds and Mommy/Daddy and Me tennis classes for 3 to 10 year olds. The upcoming 6 week session will begin Monday, June 26, 2017 and run through Thursday, August 3, 2017. For more information on the School of Tennis please call (909) 820-2611.

Fitness Orientation The weekly fitness orientation, program has begun at the Fitness and Aquatic Center. As a token of appreciation to our loyal member a free information class is offered two days a week on Tuesday and Thursday from 5pm to 7pm. The first hour will be a group exercise session and the second hour will be discussions focusing on nutrition, proper exercise technique and provide an opportunity for an individual question and answer session. Tom Sawyer Pool

Junior Lifeguard Course

The Fitness and Aquatic Center is now offering a Junior Lifeguard Course for swimmers ages 12-15

and pre testing will be conducted at the end of June. This course will give swimmers the opportunity to

learn lifeguard skills and technique needed to become a lifeguard once they are 16 years or

older. This course will be a month session and will begin in the month of July.

Hiring Lifeguards The Fitness and Aquatic Center is currently hiring for the position of Lifeguard and will continue to hire Lifeguards throughout the year. If you are interested in applying for the position please visit http://yourrialto.com/.

The Tom Sawyer Pool hosted swim lesson registra-tion on Saturday, June 24

th and Sunday June 25

th

from 9am to 1pm and from 2pm to 4pm. The swim lessons currently available are morning and afternoons during the week. Recreation swim has experienced a large amount of customers during this heat and hosted our first summer fun day Luau on June 24

th during the hours

of recreation swim. We provided for music, games, and snacks for everyone.

SUMMER SERIES

On Saturday, June 17th, the Rialto Community

Services Department was at Fergusson Park, with another special Movie in the Park, featuring the movie SING. This event saw an audience of about 200 people. With the weather at over 90˚, attendees enjoyed ice cream from 13 Ice Cream, SING coloring pages, and free giveaways. While we waited for the movie to

begin, children channeled their inner Ash and enjoyed some free karaoke. Our last Movie in the Park was at Frisbie Park and featured The Lego Batman Movie. Activities included an inflatable jumper for children and food by Martin’s Concessions and 13 Ice Cream.

Our second Movie in the Park was Moana at Rialto City Park, held on Saturday, June 10

th. This has been our most successful

event so far, with approximately 300 people in attendance. The event was Hawaiian-themed and included free colorful lei giveaways for the audience. Children were also able to enjoy free face painting provided by Ana’s Face Painting and an inflatable rock wall provided by SoCal Fun Services. Tacos Caramba sold warm tacos and quesadillas to help with the chilly night.

Our Summer Series Kick-Off event took place on Satur-day, June 3

rd at Andreson Park. The featured movie was

Jurassic World and the event included a few themed activities and food vendors, Martin’s Concessions and 13 Ice Cream. Zebra Entertainment provided a free Dinosaur and Fossil Hunt activity for kids throughout the event. Participants learned the fundamentals of paleontology and archeology; all participants received a free goodie bag with replicas of dinosaur fossils. Event attendance was around 200 people. As part of our kick-off event, the Community Services Child Development division passed out free meal vouchers to all children at the event. This was in efforts to promote our upcoming Free Summer Food Service Program, set to take place July 17 – August 24, 2017.

The fun will continue with Summer Series Concerts in the Park. Concerts in

the Park will be offered at Rialto City Park during the month of July and

feature the following bands: Good Cop Bad Cop on July 15th

, Traveling

Homeboys on July 22nd

and Doc Rock-It on July 29th

. A variety of kid’s

activities will be offered in conjunction with these events.

Youth Basketball (Divisions 2-5) The Spring Basketball season began with a very enthusiastic BANG!! The season began with our traditional opening ceremony, featuring, a very strong supporter of Rialto youth, Councilman Joe Baca Jr. There are 32 participating teams; we had 20 teams show for the opening ceremony. Our numbers have swollen to well over 300 as we have exceeded our normal capacity. In our youngest division, Division 5, we have 6 teams, with enough kids for another 2 teams. In our Division 4, we have a whopping 12 teams with 4 new coaches. Division 3 boasts 8 teams, with 2 new coaches and our oldest division has 6 teams. This season, games begin at 9:00am, and the last game begins at 9:15 pm.

Basketball Division 1-Rialto Pride

The Rialto Pride plans to participate in 3 tournaments in the month of July 2017. The team looks great with over 12 members. The team trained hard with the expectation that the winning tradition will continue. The summer tournament season is here and the Pride is ready. . Stay tuned as this program continues to grow. As always, the Rialto Pride would like to send a huge thank you to volunteer coaches for all their hard work and dedication to the team.

The summer season of Girls Volleyball began June 2nd

, 2017. This season is jam backed in both our younger division and oldest division. The teams are evenly matched, which makes for great Friday evening excitement. In division 2, the youngest division, there are 4 teams with enough waitlisted for 2 more teams. In the oldest division, Division 1, we have 6 teams, with enough waitlisted for 2 more teams. This program is growing by leaps and bounds. We have 2 off site practice locations in Rialto Middle School and Jehue Middle School.

Girls Volleyball

The co-ed youth basketball program has been registered as first and only Jr. NBA basketball program in the Inland Empire. This honor comes with coaching certifications, potential professional athlete visitation, clinics and possible brand sponsorship. This is a true honor for the program. Opening day ceremonies will begin at 8:00am this season.

Rialto Youth Sports Alliance

The Rialto Youth Sports Alliance’s next meeting will be held on September 27

th, 2017. This

meeting will discuss new approaching seasons, park projects, and city requirements moving

forward. This alliance continues to be a great support system for the local groups.

Glamour Gals Eisenhower High School Key Club “Glamour Gals” stopped by on

Tuesday, June 6th to give complimentary Manicures, Facials and

Makeovers to our senior participants. The students came up with the

idea as a way to connect with seniors while providing community

service. “Glamour Gals” is a program that assists students in

volunteering to provide ongoing companionship and complimentary

beauty makeovers to women in senior communities. The Grace

Vargas Senior Center is proud to welcome them.

Karaoke Ice Cream Social

On Monday, June 12th our senior participants were able to beat the heat and attend our Karaoke Ice

Cream Social. The event was sponsored by AGA Medicare Options Representative Crystal

Hernandez. Our senior participants were able to sing the afternoon away while enjoying their ice

cream sundaes. There was 38 senior participants in attendance. Our regular Karaoke is held each

Monday from 1:00-4:00pm in the Berglund room.

Crochet Class

On Monday, June 26th Arrowhead Regional Medical Center

Director of Volunteer Management Pat Remington, visited

the Crochet class and picked up a variety of items that our

Crochet class participants made for the Hospital’s Pediatric

department. The age range for the Pediatric department is

newborn to 17 years of age.

The Crochet class participants have been very busy making

baby booties, baby bibs, blankets, crochet toys, bracelets,

head bands, and bed jackets. Each year the Crochet class chooses 4 different facilities to sponsor.

This year the list includes: Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, San Bernardino Community Hospital

Pregnancy Ward, Santa Claus Incorporated and the Veteran’s Hospital. The Crochet Club meets each

Monday from 9:00am to11:00am in the Seniors 2000 room.
