Parking Rate Highlights (US and Canada)

NPA commissioned Philadelphia-based rm Econsult Corpora on to undertake this survey of NPA-affi liated parkingorganiza ons throughout the U.S. and Canada. Econsult partnered with market research rm reed | group to conduct

the survey, for which data was collected using online surveying so ware. In total, 399 current NPA members werecontacted for responses, and of this total, responses were received from 365 members (91%), represen ng 131 ci es in48 of the top 50 ci es in the U.S. and eight Canadian provinces.

Respondents were asked to supply rates for both their specic facili es and the ci es and metro regions in which they operate as a whole. To that end, the rates reported in this study reect informa on provided by respondents and may differ slightly from actual highs and lows. Wherever possible, mul ple responses for each city or metro region werecollected and used to determine the most accurate es mates of parking rates and gures.

Informa on for the 2008 NPA parking rates survey was collected via the internet from NPA members. This data collec on took place in severalstages.

STAGE 1Email addresses were iden ed by as many NPA members as possible (in the end we securedvalid email addresses for 365 (91%) of the 399 current NPA members included in the NPAdatabase).

STAGE 2Emails were sent to all NPA members with valid email addresses to determine if they operatedin a single city or in mul ple ci es.

Single city operators were sent a follow-up email with a l ink to the parking rates survey.80 single city operators were sent such an email and 40 (50%) par cipated in the parkingrate survey.

Mul ple city operators were asked to provide email contact informa on for a manager who could complete the survey for each city in whichthey operate parking facili es. We iden ed 25 mul ple city operators. Informa on from individual ci es in which they maintain parkingopera ons was obtained in several ways:

Some mul ple city operators provided the survey rm (reed | group) with email contact informa on for individual city managers.reed | group followed up with emails to these individual city managers which included a link to the internet survey. Emails were sentto 271 individual city parking facility managers iden ed in this way and 161 (59%) completed the parking rate survey.

Some mul ple city operators solicited survey par cipa on from their managers in ci es where they maintain parking facili esthemselves. reed | group provided these mul ple city operators with the capability to have their managers link to the internetsurvey. Approximately ve city parking facility operators were provided with a survey link in this way from these contacts, and 21city managers completed the parking rate survey.

Some mul ple city operators relied on regional managers, rather than on managers of facili es in par cular ci es, to provide theparking rate informa on on the various ci es that they managed. Approximately three completed parking rate surveys (on rates inindividual ci es) were provided by these regional managers.

STAGE 3Parking facility operators reported on parking rates only for parking facili es in their city which are similar to the types of facili es that they operate. For example, if an operator operates only hospital parking facili es in a city, then they would report only on hospital parking facility rates for thatcity.

STAGE 4Data provided in the parking rate surveys was reviewed for completeness and accuracy by reed | group, Econsult and the NPA commi ee overseeingthis research. In many situa ons where there were ques ons about data accuracy, those who completed the surveys were contacted by phone oremail to verify survey responses. In other situa ons, where data fell outside of the expected range, was markedly different from other informa onprovided for a city by other providers, or appeared to be unreliable for some other reason, the informa on was not included in the reported surveyresults. For many ci es, responses from mul ple NPA member operators enabled us to compare rate informa on, thereby increasing our condencein the accuracy of the reported informa on.

STAGE 5The data included in this report comes from NPA member parking facility operators from:

-131 ci es in the US and Canada-48 of the top 50 ci es in the US-Managers of more than 7,400 parking facili es including 5,709 parking facili es in CBDs, 293 facili es at hotels, 205 facili es at hospitals, 899facili es at educa onal ins tu ons, 361 on-airport facili es and 26 off-airport facili es-Managers whose facili es include over 2.1 million parking spaces, including 1,291,004 parking spaces in CBDs, 82,617 parking spaces athotels, 181,036 parking spaces at hospitals, 148,058 parking spaces at educa onal ins tu ons, 448,904 on-airport parking spaces and 18,892off-airport parking spaces

STAGE 6The rms conduc ng and repor ng on the parking rates informa on for the 2008 parking rates survey for NPA (reed | group and Econsult) weregreatly assisted in the collec on of complete and accurate rate informa on by the NPA commi ee overseeing this effort.
