Principal’s Message As we limp towards the end of term I would like to thank the students for their effort during this term. It was great to have time in the classroom and without too much distraction. Our Celebration Day will be on Thursday afternoon from 1:30pm until 3:00pm and will again be planned and guided by our Year 6 leaders. Ac- tivities including skipping, ball games, dancing and party games are all on the agenda. Thank you to all parents for your conscious effort to follow COVID regula- tions and continue to use STOP, DROP and GO. It is very much appreciat- ed. I would like to mention that in North Coast Region our focus on learning is guided by international educator Lyn Sharratt. We review best practice in teaching and learning to ensure we can support all learners to experi- ence success. North Coast Region has high expectations of teachers, principals and teacher aides and we regularly analyse our data to improve the learning for every student. In the classroom we ask these important questions: 1. What are you learning? Why? 2. How are you going? 3. How do you know? 4. How can you improve? 5. Where do you go for help? I wish you all a very happy holiday and hope you are able to relax and enjoy some needed quality family time. School resumes on Tuesday 6 th October 2020 after the public holiday. P/1/2 Class: Mrs T

What a busy fortnight we have had. This week we are finalising many aspects of our Term Three Assess-ments. The Preps have presented their rhymes. The Year Ones have written their retells, created images on ‘Paint’ and presented their Cultural Stories to the rest of the class. The Year Twos are finishing their Power Point presentations on Northern Blossom Bats. All of the students have worked extremely hard to complete these to the very best of their ability. The Maths assessments are continuing this week. We are finalising our lessons on time and our focus has been on chance and data concepts. The students have had to put their thinking caps on to make the best choice during chance games. Two weeks ago the school had a visit by Dr Joe’s Sci-ence Show. The science presentation was extremely captivating and there were many engaging hands on activities that the children could explore. Many of the class dressed up as different kinds of scientists and it was exciting to hear many of the students say that they now wanted to be a scientist when they grow up. We certainly need scientists now more than ever! Yesterday afternoon we had a visit from the 456 class. The Year 4 students shared the stories that they had written. The P12 class thoroughly enjoyed listening to these stories created by the older students. The younger students then shared their recent rhymes, retells and information reports with a 456 buddy. This sharing experience was an absolute joy to witness and reminded me of why I became a teacher in the first place. Congratulations to the 456 students who, without hesitation, paired up with a younger student and showed how valuable these buddy opportunities are. Thank you to Mrs Tait and the 456 students for making this fantastic afternoon possible.

2/3/4 Class: Miss Mills

We are nearly there! A handful of students still have small parts of assessment to finish off and we hope to have this done and dusted before the holidays. Thank you to all the students for their hard work and dedica-tion to learning this term. You have all demonstrated great responsibility throughout the term. Have a hap-py and safe break. See you all when you return.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

All Classes: Mrs Sillitoe Just a quick note to give credit to some wonderful students and wish all our families a safe and enjoy-able holiday.

This great group of students represented Parke State School in a Gympie Maths Challenge last Tuesday. Well done on getting second place in the small schools division.

Well done Trae, Mila, Saphy, Bill and Beau.

Our garden is looking very empty at the moment. The Parke Waste warriors have been very busy dig-ging in fertiliser and cow manure. We are preparing the soil for our spring bumper crop. Seedlings do-nated from Wide Bay Seedlings will arrive early next term. A very special thanks to Charleigh Crys-tal and Chelsea for the cow manure and to Mitchel and Travis for the fertiliser.

4/5/6 Class: Mrs Tait I am thrilled to advise that we have finished all of our assessment for Term 3. The quality of the work presented was of a high standard and it is pleasing to see our students listening to feedback to help improve their work. This demonstrates a level of maturity, persistence and responsibility. Some students in Year 4 receive extra writing time with Mrs. Birt and Mrs. Lyons. I hope you enjoy the two persuasive articles from Chelsea and Temprence. Chelsea presents the argument that dogs make better pets than cats, whilst Temprence explains why kids need to be independent. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday break. No early starts, no making lunches and no homework. Enjoy!! PTO

What’s happening in class

Why Kids need to be Independent. I strongly believe that kids need to be independent because they would be much more helpful to their parents. They will learn how to make their own decisions and they will be trusted by their family members. Firstly , if they are independent, they will be extremely helpful to their parents. They will be able to do chores around the house which will give them more family time. Secondly, when they learn to be independent they will make wiser decisions. They will learn to save money and they will learn to do their jobs to get pocket money. Finally, if they are independent they will be trusted by the family to be able to do more. For example, if you are independent, you will be trusted to go shopping or the movies with friends, but if you are not in-dependent, that will not be possible without an adult. You also won’t be allowed to stay home alone. In conclusion, there is no question that kids need to be independent. If they are independent they will be more helpful to their parents. They will learn to make their own decisions and they will be trusted by their parents. So, let’s get independent today. By Temperence Kelly. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Why Dogs are better pets than Cats. I strongly believe dogs make better pets than cats. This is because dogs are more playful, protective and can also be really helpful like guide dogs are for blind people. Cats tend to lay down a lot and sleep. Firstly, I think dogs are playful because kids can play fetch with them and teach them some tricks like shaking hands and playing dead. With cats they can be really lazy and they are not as playful. Secondly, dogs can be protective of their owner because when it’s dark and everyone is sleeping and somebody breaks in for example, they will bark to let the owner know. Cats are not as protective as dogs because cats will just sit there lazily and do nothing. Finally, dogs are helpful to society as they can be trained to become a guide dog and police dogs. As a result, they can be helpful to policemen and to blind people. Dogs can be helpful in many other different ways as they can help other animals. Cats are not really helpful although they can bath themselves, even it they just lick themselves. Dogs only have to have a bath at least once a month. In conclusion, I strongly believe dogs make a better pet then cats. This is because they are playful, pro-tective and helpful. Make you family more happy than ever and buy yourself a dog. By Chelsea Burns. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. 4/5/6 Class had an afternoon sharing with the P-2 class.
