The Principal’s Points
It is difficult to believe that we have completed the first quarter of the school year and are moving
into the holiday season. Our staff has worked very hard this quarter and we have spent a great deal
of time focusing on improving student academic performance and ways that we can support students
in the classroom using instructional practices that engage students in their learning. I want to thank
the PTSO for sponsoring a program on how the school supports student learning and what parents
can do at home to help their student. Report cards were distributed on November 13th
and if you did
not see your students, please contact the school counseling office for a copy.
Included in this newsletter is a memo from Leigh Burden, Assistant Superintendent for Business and
Financial Services to Dr. Edgar Hatrick concerning the upcoming budget process and projected fiscal
challenges that our school division could face based on preliminary projection scenarios considered
by the Board of Supervisors. I hope that you will read this and if you have questions you can contact
the Sterling School Board representative, Brenda Sheridan.
This is a very busy time of year for our seniors. I want to remind students and parents of application
deadlines and that transcript request MUST be submitted by the dates noted in this newsletter to
ensure that they are received by the colleges and universities on time. During winter break, our
school counseling office is closed and applications and transcripts will not be processed. A reminder
to seniors about the senior fee that includes payment for the cap and gown. Herff Jones was at
PVHS on Monday, January 25 to tell seniors about the cap and gown orders.
Yearbooks are also on sale. Last year we sold out! As you may know, last year’s book won 1st place
in completion, so I urge you to order as soon as possible. The full color yearbooks are currently on
sale for $50.00 and will be delivered in May 2014. You may either order on line or bring your
money to Mrs. Menna in the Publication Lab. The price for the yearbook will increase in January, so
I urge you to order now!
This will be our last newsletter until next year…….February 2014. I want to express my deepest
thanks and appreciation to our faculty and staff for all of the hard work and dedication that they
show for our school community. I want to say a huge thank you to the many parents and community
members that contribute so much to our school community. Finally, I want to thank your terrific
students……you are a wonderful group of young people with so much potential. Know that we are
here to support you and your dreams. My best wishes to each of you for a safe and happy holiday
season.
