PARIVAR DAY PARIVAR DAY – Most awaited event held once in three years was held on, 25 Jan 2012 at Jagmohandas Gokaldas Auditorium. In this unique event initiated by the Management, all the members of Teaching and Non Teaching staff of Schools and College under the Management of Malad Kandivli Education Society meet each other and celebrate the day together without any barriers. They share the platform and exchange their views, showcase their talent and enjoy the merriment. There were more than 350 members of the Parivar which included Members of the Managing Committee, Teaching and Non Teaching staff of all the sections from Schools and College. The Program commenced at 9.00 with the Event management consultant appointed to conduct various Games. They conducted Group activities like Musical Chair, Fetch the Partner, Decorate the Partner. A sumptuous Lunch was served in the afternoon. A Drama, U V lights, Dance and Guitar performance was done by our students. Shri. At the outset, I would like to wish the Khandwala family a very fruitful and memorable New Year 2012.

Let this year be a year of great accomplishments and achievements for our Institute.This issue is full of the reports of the extraordinary events that took place in the Institute, since the last issue.

The events talk of the tremendous work that students, faculties and the staff, with full support of the Managing Committee, have put in. So, here it is: this wonderful Issue; a proud New Year Gift to our esteemed readers!

OAMII 2012 CONFERENCE

The UGC Sponsored National Conference on the theme, ‘Open Access Movement in the Age of Innovation and ICT’ (OAMII 2012), was organized by the Library and Information Centre, Nagindas Khandwala College, Malad (W), Mumbai on 6and 7 Jan, 2012. The book comprising the research papers was then released by Mr. Gunvantrai B. Parekh, Treasurer, Malad Kandivali Education Society, Mumbai. The book with ISBN (978-93-5051-722-2) is published by Himalaya Publishing House, Mumbai. Dr. Daulat Jotwani, Chief Librarian of IIT Bombay was the Chief Guest and delivered the Keynote Speech in the programme.

The first Technical Session, ‘Role of

Librarians in the Open Access Movementwas chaired by Dr. Pratibha A. Gokhale, Head, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Mumbai. The second Technical Session ‘Copyright and Plagiarism Issues Related to the Open Access Sources of Information’ was chaired by Dr. S. K. Savanur, Former Librarian of WRIC, University of Mumbai. The third Technical Session on ‘Open Access Initiatives’ was chaired by Dr. Satish

Kanamadi, Deputy Librarian of Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai.

The Conference was attended by 35 Librarians from various recognized Colleges and Universities of Maharashtra and adjacent states. There were 15 paper presentations held in three technical sessions.

To mark the completion of the Conference the Valedictory Function was organized. The Chief Guest of the Function Dr. Sushama Powdwal, University Librarian of SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai spoke on the importance of organizing such Conference. The function came to an end with the vote of thanks followed by the national anthem.

CAREER GUIDANCE & PLACEMENT CELL The Career Guidance Unit of

College organised Training in Soft Skills for Final Year students of the college. 81 students registered in the four day training camp. LITERATI Training Institute – professionals in the field of Training were assigned the job to train students during Dec 1 to 4 , 2011 , on – How to win an Interview, Dressing Skills, Group Discussion and Personal Interview, Resume making etc. Placement week was arranged from 5 to 10 December , 2011 wherein many companies visited the campus and shortlisted candidates.There were about 150 of them who got an opportunity to present themselves for an interview. M/S Navkar Recruitment visited for their clients. Infosys Bangalore visited on 16th December,2011 and selected 57 students and issued Offer Letter asking them to join in April,2012 after Annual exam. PeP Biz, CareerNet- Pan India based company from Bangalore, conducted their test on 9th December, 2011 where in over 125 students participated. Andromeda Marketing Pvt. GANDHIAN STUDIES CENTER

A Two Day UGC- sponsored National Seminar on the theme “Gandhi in the New Millennium – Issues and Challenges was organized by the Centre on January 27 and 28, 2012.”A Gandhian Skit was performed by the volunteers of the Gandhian Studies Centre on Annual Day, 12 December, 2011. Principal Radheshyam Dwivedi – a renowned poet and Gandhian conducted a session on “BapuChalisa” on December 17, 2011 for the Certificate Course students. The whole audience enthusiastically joined him in reciting his self-composed BapuChalisa based on the

life of Mahatma Gandhi. The Children’s Movie Club screened the film “Bapu Ne KahaTha” on 21 st January for the students of MKES and NL school. The Gandhian Peace Examination was conducted for the college students by the Centre on 30 January 2012.

M.A .ECONOMICS Prof (Mrs.) Aditi Abhyankar , Head of Department of Economics, Ruia College was invited to deliver a lecture on the Topic “ Two Decades of Economic and Financial Sector Reforms” to the students of M.A. (Economics) on 4 January 2012. She explained the various challenges faced by the Indian Economy due to Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation.

The Annual Athletic meet was held on 1st December 2011. Certificates and medals were distributed by Principal, Vice Principal and the staff. The Athletic Meet was a grand success.KaranDedhia and NipeshThakkar of FY B.Com won first price in volleyball event,Udaan 2012 held on 19th, 20th, and 21stJanuary, 2012.

Gupta Parmanand Rajnarayam, FY B.Com represented our College in the Republic Day parade at New Delhi. JuoYadav Vishal was The Parade Commander of Maharashtra among N.C.C Cadets in the N.C.C Day Camp held on 26th November, 2011. 3 cadets attended the National Camps which included National Integration Camp, National Treking Camp and Army Attachment Camp. C.W.O Sunny Singh got the Best Cadet Trophy at the N.C.C Day Camp.13 cadets including 8 girls took part in N.C.C Day Camp from 17th to 27th November 2011. 5 cadets participated in Section Attack in N.C.C Day camp.

National Youth Day was celebrated on 12 th January 2012. 20 volunteers from NSS visited Bhavan’s College where International Youth Day was celebrated which was followed by a seminar on Swami Vivekanand, his

values, his ideas of living life. Talk on Swami Vivekanand and Value Education was conducted in N.K College by Prof. Suchak on 10th January 2012. Prof Suchak gave a speech on Swami Vivekanand’s values, ideas. 10 volunteer attended the Annual Day performance conducted by Anubhav on 21st January 2012.Our NSS unit won 2nd place in Poster competition. Our NSS volunteer actively participated in Aroha, the Festivals conducted by Hinduja College.

TEAM We are the first ever College in the

state of Maharashtra to provide a much needed platform to non-teaching staff by organizing an intercollegiate sports and cultural event aptly named as TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More). The 8th Intercollegiate Cultural and Sport events organized from 26 Dec to 31 Dec, 2011 covering the entire Mumbai region was attended by management members ,principal and administrative heads of various colleges. Saturday 31st December 2011 in our college audtioirum.Dr.Prakash G.R Gaikwad, Director of Higher education, Maharashtra State who was the chief guest suggested that looking at the popularity and the magnanimity of the event we can go for state level completion. ENGLISH LITERARY ASSOCIATION

The English Literary Association conducted a talk on ’Graphology and Handwriting analysis’ on Tuesday 24th January.It was conducted by two of our own students from SY.BCOM class, Ms. Aditi Vyas and Master Mayur Gidh. They gave detailed information and did in-depth

analysis of the handwriting samples of certain celebrities from Bollywood. They also guided

students about how to change their handwriting in order to change their

personality.The programme was well-attended by nearly 80 students from all faculties,

students and some teacher’s queries too were answered.

KHANDWALA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The reunion of Khandwala Alumni Association students was held in the college auditorium on 21st Jan, 2012. Students as far back of 1990 were

present on the occasion. About 250 students attended the event. Jigar Shah & Co. from Roll and Soul from Bangalore with his troupe of 14 dancers also put up a great show. Current BMS students enthralled the spell-bound audience

with their scintillating performance for 2 hrs.”Baghaa” of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah

Chasmah fame, Tanmay real name, our Ex-student of 1980 Batch also entertained the

audience. The event was followed by DJ Night and Dinner.

On 21 & 22 December, 2011, The Springz Committee Of Nagindas Khandwala College organized an Intercollegiate Festival. Over 400 participants turned out from various Colleges and this Year Ghandhyamdas Saraf College won the Overall Trophy which was given by our Chief Guest and the main sponsor, Mr.Ramesh Patel.This year we had renowned celebrities among

our midst.The grand occasion of SPRINGZ have been on its brightest side by the presence of Kunal Verama and Narendra Jha the lead actors of ‘Havan’ in colours, Ramji Gulati the music composer of upcoming movie ‘Sadda Adda’,Kartar Cheema a super model who won the Big FM Award currently and is featuring in 2 Hindi movies with Genelia D’souza and Ritesh Deshmukh .Over 60 different events of Literary arts, Fine Arts, Gamming, Campus Feakers & Performing Arts were managed & supported by Prof. Preeti Tripathi (Convenor) ,Prof .Mrs. Reena Desai (Cultural in charge) and Dr.(Mrs).Kavita Kalkoti(Secretary).

PROF.MEHA H TODI Prof.Meha H Todi conducted Viva as an external examiner for TYBMM(Semester V ), Advertising Design at Wilson College , Saraf College and Siddharth College.

Viva Voce for TYBMS students was held on 16th and 21st January,2012. The External Examiners were Prof. Shradha Jain-KPB Hinduja, Prof. BorkarShailesh –BurhaniCollege, Prof. Karunanidhi -SantGadgeMaharajCollege.BMS Section won a lot of accolades at KPB Hinduja College Festival ,Nexsus-2012. namely Best College,Best Contingent Leader – Mr. Rohit Gada. However the victory would not have been possible without the support and co-Operation of BFM students.

BAF BBI BFM One day Industrial Visit was arranged for F.Y. BAF, BBI and BFM students to KeshavShrusti. On 12th January. Prof. Kavita Shah, Prof. Poonam Popat and Prof. MehaTodi accompanied students to the world of greenery and fresh air. They could see the Bio gas plant, vegetable farms and a nursery of medicinal plants. They learnt a lot on environment protection, water conservation and use of renewable sources of energy. The second half of the day was spent at Golden Pagoda in Gorai where the atmosphere was very serene and spiritual. It gave students a new meaning of silence and peace.

BMM December 3, 2011 will remain a day that will be etched in the DNA of all who enjoy a good debate. Montage 2011 saw greats such as Todd Baer of Al-Jazeera, Raj of BBDO and the brain behind Shave Sutra and Quaker Oats, and Robert Clements of Free Press journal speak on, “How Responsible Is The Media To Indian Democracy” .A healthy discussion with the student audience was the highlight of the first session. The second session was equally pulsating with a collage of dance and [email protected] put up by our students with the guidance of Cadence Theater personnel was rib tickling. Raj, Ritesh,

Krishan,Prena,Jaee and Ishita of FYBMM won the first place in an intercollegiate dance competition organized by the Whistling Woods International. They will now represent the college at state level. Harsh Punmiya won the 1st prize in photography at Rizvi College.

B.SC.IT/ CS An Awareness program on Thalessamia, by THINK FOUNDATION was conducted on 20th

January, 2011.Anindustrial visit was organised to Infosys, Puneon 7thJanuary,2012 for B.Sc.IT/CS students.Department of Bsc.IT/CS organised Annual Intercollegiate Festival “ Zesty”. Nearly 20 colleges from vicinity participated in the event.

ENGLISH CLUB The English Club was formally inaugurated by Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ancy Jose on 14th November, 2011. Essay Writing Competition was conducted on 24th January, 2012. 54 students participated in the Competition.

SOCIAL CELL

Social cell of Self Finance section initiative - NKare - 'Bringing back the smile' entered into its third year of social service. Stationary drive was another campaign which received an imense response from all. Members of Social cell visited an orphanage and spent quality time with kids there. Social cell donated the required materials like stationary and Food grains to the kids in orphanage.Social cell is looking forward for more campaigns in future and will try to bring smile on more faces.

AAGMAN 2011

“AAGMAN 2011”-Beginning of a New Era was an Intracollege Festival for the Self Finance Section. More than 850 students from BAF, BBI, BMS, BFM, BMM participated making it very eventful with events like Ground Quidditch, H2O Fight, Business Blue Reloaded, Spicy Dicy,Dance, Fashion show ,Singing, and many more. Aagman 2011 was held from 15th to 17thDecember, the festival was held at College Auditorium, College Premises and Thakur Auditorium. BMS won the Best Section Award. The first runner up was BFM,the second runner was BAF, BBI was awarded the Most Participative Section, and BMM was awarded the most aspiring section.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT CELL

The Career Development cell of Nagindas Khandwala College celebrated its corporate festival UDAAN in the last week of January 2012.The objective was ‘Future Ready- Today’. A series of workshops under corporate guidance trained the students on corporate grooming, effective communication and team-building. A mock interview with Blackberry and Silicon Chip Technologies was a particular favorite with the students who were assessed on the industry worthiness.

The panelists were Ivan Bayross,CMD,Silicon Chip technologies,Amar Thomas, Marketing Manager, Blackberry India, Manoj Khilani, Enterprise Marketing Manager at RIM, Sanmita Kamat, Director Sankash Trading Private Limited.,Prof.B.P.Nansi, Consultant and trainer.

The CDC executives impressed the corporate visitors so well that some have been offered HR postions once they complete their degree in 2013. Vishal Dave of IT Department impressed Mr.Ivan Bayross during the course of Mock Interview that he has been offered a position in Silicon Chip technologies from May 2012 onwards.

15 of our CDC executives assisted GEEBEE Education private limited at the UK education fair at Hyatt Regency on 3rd February,2012.
