REJOICE IN GOD’S MERCY: A HUG FROM GOD IS ALL YOU NEED
FEBRUARY 21ST: 2ND SUNDAY OF LENT
THE THREE LENTEN DISCIPLINES OF PRAYER, FASTING, AND ALMSGIVING STRIP AWAY OUR
DELUSION OF INDEPENDENCE AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND HELP US TO SEE OUR UTTER
DEPENDENCE UPON GOD FOR EVERYTHING WE HAVE AND EVERYTHING WE ARE. ATTACHMENT TO THE THINGS
OF THIS WORLD CAN BLOCK THE PATH TO OUR “CITIZENSHIP IN HEAVEN”. WHEN NOISE, FOOD, AND MONEY
CEASE TO CONTROL US, WE ARE CONFIRMED MORE CLOSELY TO THE GLORY OF JESUS CHRIST.
ACTION: IDENTIFY YOUR ATTACHMENTS AND IDOLS. CALL THEM BY NAME AND TURN TO GOD FOR HELP IN
OVERCOMING THEM.

LIFE AND FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE
Recently I met with Deacon Larry Worthen, the Ex-
ecutive director of the Christian Medical and Dental
Society of Canada. This association consists of
1,700 Christian doctors who want to make people
aware of the conscience concerns of Christian phy-
sicians in light of the legalization of assisted Suicide
and euthanasia. They are currently lobbying gov-
ernment at the federal and provincial level and ask
for the help of the parishioners by voicing their op-
position to let doctors live and act by their morals
and convictions. For more information visit

The Catholic Church has traditionally encouraged
her children to understand the practice of merciful
love by dividing the works of mercy into two
kinds: corporal (that is, bodily) and spiritual.
What we see in the life of Mother Teresa is a
shining example of a life dedicated especially to
practicing the corporal works of mercy:
(1) Feed the hungry.
(2) Give drink to the thirsty.
(3) Clothe the naked.
(4) Shelter the homeless.
(5) Visit those in prison.
(6) Comfort the sick.
(7) Bury the dead.
In addition to the corporal works or mercy, the
Church has outlined the spiritual works of mercy.
Look to these works as preventative medicine for
poverty of the spirit. The spiritual works of mercy
are as follows:
(1) Admonish sinners.
(2) Instruct the uninformed.
(3) Counsel the doubtful.
(4) Comfort the sorrowful.
(5) Be patient with those in error.
(6) Forgive offenses.
(7) Pray for the living and the dead.

Friday, February 26, 7:30 p.m. – How parents can respond to the “Guidelines”, with Adam Soos and myself, at St. Cecilia’s Church, 321 – 90th Avenue SE.

A cop pulls over a car full of nuns. The says, “Sister,
the speed limit on this highway is 55 mph. Why are
you going so slow?
Sister replies, “I was a lot of signs that said 41, not 55.”
The cop says, “Sister, that’s the name of the highway, not
the speed limit.”
“Silly me, “the embarrassed nun says, “Thanks for letting
me know. I’ll be more careful.”
But then the cop glances in the back seat where the other
nuns are quaking with fear. He asks,
“Excuse me, Sister, what’s wrong with
your friends?”
Sister says, “Oh, we just got off
Highway 101.”
