“Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed
you, for the glory of God.” Romans 15:7
A key element of stewardship and evangelization is a
welcoming environment. Do we take time to meet the
people we sit with at Mass each Sunday?

Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed
you, for the glory of God. Romans 15:7
After Christmas last year, I stopped in Savannah, Georgia, for
an afternoon. The object of my pilgrimage - the birthplace
of writer Flannery O’Connor - was closed, so I headed to
the Cathedral across the square . . . as did dozens of others.
Tour buses unloaded and passers-by stopped in. I thought it
was because it was a beautiful, historic building, but they
were coming to see the large, gorgeous crèche scene inside.
I took a look at the crèche myself and then sat in a
pew for a while, just watching. People waited patiently in
line to view the nativity, but then they stayed and craned their
necks to study the ceiling, gazed at the stained glass
windows, pondered the furnishings.
There are many ways to welcome each other in
Christ. We listen, we offer food, we smile, we make room.
But it all starts with an open door, inviting all to encounter
the glory, the beauty, the challenge and the mercy of Christ.
Lord, may I live a spirit of welcome to all this season.

Heaven project
begins December 1.
If you’d like to help
them raise monies
for St. Francis Xavier Parish in Haiti, you can
drop your pennies off at school, the parish
office or place them in the Haiti box in church.
Last weekend we began our “Angels of Mercy”
Advent Project. Sister Mimi Ballard continues to
support her program to help care for bedridden
people in the area of Casa Ursulina mission in
Chile so we’ll focus on those needs again this year.
Her list of needs includes diapers for adults,
women’s underwear, and yarn for knitting and
crocheting. If you’d prefer to make a monetary
donation instead, you may choose a monetary
angel or you can just drop your donation in the
Sunday collection basket or send to the parish
office.
Thank you so much
for your continued support and generosity
for those less fortunate than us.

Retirement Fund for The Religious 2016
The collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious
will be taken up in our parish next weekend. Senior
Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests
spent years working in Catholic Schools, hospitals,
and agencies - often for little pay. Their sacrifices
leave their religious communities without adequate
savings for retirement and eldercare. Your gift to
the Retirement Fund for Religious collection helps
provide prescription medications, nursing care, and
more. Please give to those who have given a
lifetime of service.
Late Night Prayer Service: Abbey Caskets, a work of
St. Meinrad Archabbey, will host a Service of the Longest
Night on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. Central
Time in the St. Meinrad Guest House Chapel. Fr. Adrian
Burke OSB will lead prayer and Scripture that acknowledges
those who mourn and struggle with loss during the holiday
season. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments served.

BRINGING SOLAR LIGHT TO HAITI
We’ve Raised $2,000 Already!
In 1985, St. Joseph in Bardstown was the first parish in Kentucky to "twin" with a Haitian parish. We twinned
with a parish in the mountains of northeast Haiti, St. Francis Xavier, in Acul Samedi. For the past 31 years, our
main mission there has been educational - we have been funding the entire budget for the parish grade
school. With your generous help, we have educated over 10,000 students during these 31 years. Bringing the
"light of learning" is still our main goal - and this year we’re going to augment that by bringing solar light to
the parish. All of our students live in homes without electricity. Our plan this year is to bring at least a hundred
solar lanterns to our school and parish. We intend to give one lantern to each teacher at our school, and one
to each student in our 6th grade. After that, we will begin to distribute them to families in the parish. Our long-
range goal includes bringing conventional solar panels to the school and the parish.
One of these solar lanterns can light an entire Haitian home!
The Keys to Successful Aid
All sorts of faith groups and NGOs have come and gone over the years in Haiti - but our presence has
endured - for 31 years! We've accompanied our Haitian brothers and sisters in their struggles - not by
walking ahead or behind - but by walking side by side with them, and by listening to them.
So much international aid ends up in the hands of corporate entities in Haiti, with very little of it actually getting
to those who need it the most - the people. Our approach is different - 96% of every dollar donated will go
directly to the people!
How You Can Help
Any donation you give will be greatly appreciated. But please consider:
+ Educating a student for a year and buying a solar light for $100
+ Educating a student for one semester for $50
