SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: The miracle performed by Elisha, finds its perfect fulfillment in Jesus’ feeding of the five thousand. He opens his hands and satisfies our deepest needs. In particular, we thank all our volunteers, those who donated food, Junior Arias and Wilfredo Ortiz who animated the singing and Milton Lopez for his reflections and everyone who participated personally and spiritually. In so doing, we ensure we do not fall into the temptation of having to borrow to keep doors of our church open. JOSEPH: With the Apostolic Letter Patris corde (“With a Father’s Heart”), Pope Francis recalls the 150th anniversary of the declaration of St. Joseph as patron of universal Church. To mark the occasion, the Holy Father has proclaimed a “Year of St. Joseph” from December 8, 2020 to December 8, 2021. Every Wednesday during 1:00pm bilingual Mass we shall be celebrating Mass in honor of St. Joseph. Also I wish to encourage the faithful of St. Angela Merici to say prayers in honor of St. Joseph for his is traditionally called a Patron who intercedes for those in material needs. REGISTRATION IN OUR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION/CCD PROGRAM FOR SEPTEMBER 2021: This is to inform parents and guardians with six year old children in need of baptism, those who would like to prepare themselves for First Holy Communion and Confirmation to please come to the office and meet Sr. Maria Pagan, Program Director to register. Registration is in person. Time: Tuesday – Friday 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm. Saturday 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.

PARISH MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION: This is to invite all those parishioners who belong to St. Angela Merici and would like to register to please do by filling membership form. There are rights and duties that come along with membership. For example, you are to receive a letter of Reference to have your child in a Catholic School, obtain recommendation for immigration purposes, and bury your relative at a Catholic Cemetery etc.

Reflexión Las señales enmarcan la Lectura del Evangelio de hoy. Las señales aparecen al principio y al final del pasaje. Esto es significativo porque este domingo es el primero de cinco domingos durante los cuales está programado que se proclame la mayor parte del sexto capítulo del relato del Evangelio de San Juan (aunque este año, uno de estos cinco domingos será reemplazado por la celebración del 15 de agosto). de la Asunción de la Santísima Virgen María). Este capítulo de Juan 6 es donde Jesús proclama su enseñanza sobre el Santísimo Sacramento: la Sagrada Eucaristía, que llega a nuestro medio a través del Santo Sacrificio de la Misa. Signs frame today’s Gospel Reading. Signs appear at the beginning and at the end of the passage. This is significant because this Sunday is the first of five Sundays during which most of the sixth chapter of St. John’s account of the Gospel is scheduled to be proclaimed (although this year, one of these five Sundays will be displaced by the August 15th celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary). This chapter of John 6 is where Jesus proclaims His teaching about the Most Blessed Sacrament: the Holy Eucharist, which comes into our midst through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Consider the signs of Jesus that are mentioned. At the beginning of today’s Gospel Reading, Saint John the

Evangelist explains to us that “a large crowd followed [Jesus] because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick.” Then, at the end of the

passage, St. John explains how after “the people saw the sign He had done” just then—that is, multiplying the

loaves and fish—“Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off to make him king, [and so] he withdrew again to the mountain alone.” That’s one of the most melancholy verses in the entire

Gospel: Jesus “withdrew again to the mountain alone.” Again. Apparently this had happened before. The problem, of course, wasn’t Jesus: the one performing these signs. The problem was in the crowds: those who saw His signs but mistook their message. Yet it’s not the crowds who withdraw. It’s Jesus who chooses to withdraw repeatedly to the mountains alone. At the end of Holy Week comes further isolation atop a mountain. Because the crowds mistake Jesus’ greatest sign—the Sign of the Cross, in which the crowds see mortal shame instead of immortal glory—most of Jesus’s disciples abandoned Him to Calvary. Atop Mount Calvary, Jesus takes upon His shoulders the sins of the world, and on

behalf of man cries the psalm of solitude: “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”
