CARDINAL’S APPEAL 2019: Dear Parishioners,
every year Cardinal Timothy Dolan asks parishioners to
support Cardinal’s Annual Appeal in the Archdiocese of
New York. St. Angela Merici has always responded and
supported the Cardinal’s Appeal. This year our goal is
$17,500.00. We please ask every parishioner to respond
generously so that we can arrive at our goal quickly and
easily. Special envelopes are provided in the back of the
church for this year’s Cardinal Appeal. Thank you very
much for your generosity.
PRESIDENT’S DAY: On Monday February 18, 2019
will be President’s Day holiday. There will be Bilingual
Mass at 9:30a.m. There will not be 1:00 p.m. usual
mass. On that day Rectory office will be closed.
TAX EXEMPTION LETTERS: This is to thank all
parishioners for financially supporting our church through
weekly contributions. This is to inform all those who
would like to have a letter for the purpose of Tax
Exemption Filling who donated to the church the year 2018
to please call the rectory office number 718-293-0984 and
provide your name and envelop number. Thank you.
HOMEBOUND: Whoever knows Catholic believers
who are homebound and are in need of receiving Holy
Communion or the sacrament of reconciliation, should
come to the parish office and provide us with the names,
address and phone numbers of each homebound person in
order to make it possible for the Priest, Deacon or
Eucharistic ministers to reach them.
PALMS : All those with Palms which were blessed last
year on Ash Wednesday last year 2018 who wish to get rid
of them can bring them to the parish before Ash Wednesday
this year, and leave them at the rectory or pass them to any
of the ushers. The same palms will be burned and ashes
will be blessed and used during Ash Wednesday this
year. Thank you very much.
FLU SEASON: New York Archdiocesan Administrators
wish to remind us of the need to protect members of our
community most especially at a time when Flue like
symptoms may be moving around. Priests and Ministers of
the Eucharist must ensure maximum hygiene practices like
cleaning their hands before and after distribution of Holy
Communion. For a moment restrain as much as possible
from hugging or hand shaking at the time of offering peace
during liturgical celebrations.
THANKS TO OUR PARISH VOLUNTEERS: We
hereby wish to sincerely thank all our English\Spanish
Mass brothers and sisters who volunteer their time and
resources to serve our parish community especially doing
so around our church property, inside the church building,
and Convent basement. May God keep blessing you for
your dedication. Amen.
RENEW AND REBUILD AND NO CASH: Remember to include your name and address when
issuing a check or money order. This campaign is a
five year program and it is about participation and not
equal giving. Again thank you very much. May God
continue to bless you. Amen.

God’s words in today’s First Reading point us beyond
Jeremiah to Jesus. Like Jeremiah, Jesus was
consecrated in the womb and sent as a “prophet to the
nations”. Like the prophets before Him, Jesus too
faces hostility. In today’s Gospel, the crowd in His
hometown synagogue quickly turns on Him,
apparently demanding a sign, some proof of divine
origins—that He’s more than just “the son of Joseph.”
The sign He gives them is that of the prophets Elijah
and Elisha. From their colorful careers Jesus draws
two stories. In each, the prophets bypass “many . . . in
Israel” to bestow God’s blessings on non-Israelites
who had faith that the prophets were men of God.
“None . . . not one” in Israel was found deserving,
Jesus emphasizes.
His point isn’t lost on His audience. They know He’s
likening them to the “many . . . in Israel” in the days of
the prophets. That’s why they try to shove Him off the
cliff. As He promised to protect Jeremiah, the Lord
delivers Jesus from those who would crush Him.
And as were Elijah and Elisha, Jesus is sent to
proclaim God’s gift of salvation—not exclusively to one
nation or people, but to all who realize in faith that
from the womb God alone is their hope, their rescuer,
their “rock of refuge,” as we sing in today’s Psalm.
Prophecies, Paul tells us in today’s Epistle, are partial
and pass away “when the perfect comes.” In Jesus, the
word of the prophets has been brought to perfection,
fulfilled in those who have ears to hear, as He declares
in today’s Gospel. Greater than the gifts of faith and
hope, Jesus shows us how to love as He loved—to love
God as our Father, as the one who formed us in the
womb and destined us to hear His saving Word.
This is the salvation, the “mighty works of the Lord,”
that we, like the psalmist, are thankful to proclaim
daily in the Eucharist.
