As usual there will be two services in St Doulagh’s on 13th October. A Harvest Eucharist will be celebrated at 10am when the preacher will be Rev Bill Haslett, formerly minister of Ballyblack Presbyterian Church, near Newtownards. Bill has spent many years in ecumenical endeavour in this island and in Scotland and was for many years involved in the Greenhills Ecumenical Conference in Drogheda. He is now ‘retired’ and living in Newtownards. At 7pm the preacher will be Bishop Walton Empey, formerly Archbishop of Dublin and well known to many of us. We hope that there will also be good support from our friends in the neighbouring churches in the area for what promises to be a very special occasion.

St Doulagh’s PensThe Friends of St Doulagh's have an exclusive offer for All and Sundry. We have a Special Offer of Pens including a 2014 pull

SympathyWe offer our sympathy to the family of the late Ellen Norgrove, for many years a resident in Talbot Lodge Nursing Home who died on 28th June. Her funeral was held in her home parish church of St Columba, North Strand. We also express our sympathy to Addy Patterson and her family on the death of her brother, William Redhouse, following a tragic accident.

We also offer our sympathy to Denis and Norman Waring (St Sylvester’s Villas) and Hazel Brown (Donaghmede) and their families on the death of their brother, Alan, in Cheltenham, and also to Isobel Morris (Muldowney) on the death of her sister in Belturbet, and to Kerry Redmond, Galtrim Grange, and Richard Cluff, Grattan Lodge, whose fathers have died.

ConfirmationConfirmation will be held in the spring, but no date or venue has yet been finalised However, it is necessary to know how many candidates will be presenting themselves, and to begin classes, and to get copies of the book which we will be using this year. This is ‘Faith Confirmed’ by Peter Jackson and Chris Wright, published by SPCK (2ed, 2013)

There will be a meeting of candidates and parents in St Andrew’s Church on Sunday 29th September at 6.30pm, and all candidates and parents are asked to attend. Classes will begin on the 3rd Sunday of October.

As last year, please note that all candidates should be 14 years of age at the time of confirmation, and are expected to attend worship in the parish on a regular basis. Confirmation is about remaking baptismal vows made on our behalf and about our commitment to membership of the Church, and receiving the laying on of hands as a sign of the gift of the Holy Spirit by our chief pastor, the bishop

Outing To Arigna MinesThe parish outing to Arigna Mines was a great success. Everyone who went seems to have enjoyed the fellowship and the mine itself, although we would not have liked to have worked in it, especially in its original form! That anyone would do so was a sign of just how bad things were in remote rural areas. Thanks are due to Anne Taplin and Willie Heath who made the arrangements and Alan Hyland who made the suggestion.

Harvest Thanksgiving ServicesThe Harvest Services will be held in both churches on the usual dates of the 4th Sunday in September (Malahide) and the 2nd Sunday in October.

The Malahide service will take the form on an All-Age Service at 1130am at which the preacher will be Rev Anthony Kelly, Rector of Holmpatrick and Balbriggan. The school usually take part in the service, presenting symbolic gifts and all families connected with the School are warmly invited to come along. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Chapel area.
