Finding God The splendid magi, all sparkle and dash and solemnity, march right up off the pages of Matthew's Gospel and into our churches today. Matthew alone tells us this grand and seductive story so that we might see the light and know that the child these magi visited is the fulfillment of prophecy, the king of the world that stretches to the magi's home country and beyond, right down the ages to us. We too see and understand anew. Like the magi, our patron saints for this day, we see in the newborn child the king of the universe and light of the world. Like the magi, we find in ourselves a new faith and a new life. Like them, we return to our home by a new route. We are asked to come away from this festive season ourselves renewed and awake to the presence of God among us. We are asked to find God where God is to be found, to be attentive and surprised and ready to bow down in adoration and to offer our gifts. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. Year of Faith: January 2013 Manifesting Christ: Blessed Are the Peacemakers

Meditation The joy of love, the answer to the drama of suffering and pain, the power to forgive offenses, life’s victory over death’s emptiness: all this finds fulfillment in the mystery of Christ’s incarnation, in Jesus becoming human and sharing our human weakness in order to transform it by the power of his resurrection (see Benedict XVI, Door of Faith, 13).

This Year of Faith has opened wide the “door of faith.” The liturgical “door” that opens every calendar year is the solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. Her Son is the Prince of Peace, thus her feast fittingly coincides with the World Day of Prayer for Peace, whose theme this year is “Blessed are the peacemakers.” Peace, writes the pope, grows from deep within each human soul as God’s gift. It flowers whenever we work to build peace in the world, as individuals and as members of the human family. As January unfolds, the Sunday Gospels proclaim Jesus’ “manifestations” as Savior of the world: on Epiphany, to the Gentile nations, in the persons of the magi; on the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, to the people of Israel listening to John the Baptist at the Jordan; at Cana’s wedding feast, to the smaller circle of disciples, as Jesus changes water into wine; finally, in his hometown synagogue, as Jesus inaugurates his public ministry by proclaiming his mission of bringing glad tidings to the poor, liberty to captives, sight to the blind, freedom to the oppressed.

Mission To continue manifesting Jesus’ presence in the world by making his mission our own, especially as peacemakers in Jesus’ name at home and in our communities.

A t St. Joseph Catholic Academy, we walk through the halls and see photos of our students and plaques and trophies of accomplishments. We hear the voices of our teachers guiding and encouraging the students. We listen to the sounds of laughter and singing coming from our students as they walk through the hallways. We recognize that our school is a special place and we are so thankful to our families, alumni, friends, and all Kenosha parishes for supporting our students and school. Many blessings from our St. Joseph Catholic Academy family to the St. Anne Parish community. We wish you Peace, Joy, Hope and Happiness during this blessed Christmas season and throughout the New Year.

Did you know that a portion of your SCRIP purchases are tax deductible? The discount St. Anne receives when we purchase the gift cards is the amount that is tax deductible to you. For example if you spend $200 a week on groceries and the percentage St. Anne receives is 5% - you can deduct an additional $520 per year as a charitable deduction! You don’t have to keep records either. If you purchase SCRIP and have signed the program agreement (call the Parish Office or ask at the SCRIP desk if you are not sure what that is) the tax deductible amount will show on your Contributions Statement you receive from us for the year. Please make it your New Year’s resolution to use SCRIP for your groceries and gas. If every-one did, we would have no debt! Thanks for your consideration and have a happy (and profitable) new year. The Lonely King “At a parish in the Midwest where I was privileged to serve as the director of liturgy and music, we embarked on a fundraiser to purchase nativity figures for a new Christmas manger scene. Because of the large size of the church we needed large figures. This was an expensive undertaking. The first year we were able to purchase the figures of Mary and Joseph, the infant Jesus, a shepherd, two sheep, and a cow. The second year we added a few of the Bethle-hem townspeople, another couple of sheep, and the angel. The third year we were able to afford a donkey and one of the three kings. When Epiphany arrived, we placed that one king at the manger scene. I remember how silly it all seemed when the assembly sang the opening hymn, "We Three Kings of Orient Are." The king seemed pretty lonely. By the time all of the Sunday Masses that day were celebrated, we had collected enough to purchase the other two kings! A need was noticed and people responded.” © Tom Schmidt, J.S. Paluch Please contact the Parish Office if you would like to respond to the Flowers of the Field campaign.
