SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 1, 2015 Dear Friends,

In today’s gospel, Peter, James, and John are given the privilege of getting a glimpse of Jesus in all His glory. They also see not only the kingdom of God to come but they experience what that kingdom can be like here on earth. Today’s gospel message of the Transfiguration helps us to see where we are going yet what we need to build up here on earth in the present moment. Guerric of Igny, an 11th Century Cistercian monk and spiritual writer, draws our attention to the saints to help us build the kingdom of God here yet keep our eyes focused on what is to come. He writes:

2015 Lent

March 19 – St. Joseph’s Day

On Thursday, March 19, we will have a parish liturgy at 7:30 PM and will gather in the Spiritual Formation Center for a social afterwards, including St. Joseph’s Pastries. Please join us and rejoice in the care and the prayers of the husband of Mary and the guardian of Jesus, St. Joseph.

Have a great week! May God be Praised, Fr. Dominic

Look up into heaven, for your true home is in heaven. Look up and direct the eyes of your mind at least on the brilliance of the stars, if you are not able yet to gaze upon the sun’s disk. Admire the splendor of the saints, imitate their faith, emulate their holiness. Those stars blaze like a flame and show clearly that the Light of lights has risen. They lead to the cradle of the new King, to the bedchamber of the Virgin Mother, faith’s inviolable mystery, indeed they lead to the temple of the King, to the sanctuary of God the Father, faith’s reward that surpasses all understanding. In the meantime however, while we are not able to search out the wisdom of God which is hidden in mystery or to contemplate the majesty which is to be our reward, let us be content to wonder at the brightness of the saints.

A Thought from Blessed Miriam Teresa:

He was beloved of God and men, whose memory is in benediction; He made him like the saints in glory and magnified him in the fear of his enemies...The Lord loved him and adored him; He clothed him with a robe of glory

(Quoted in Diary. March 19, 1925)

Please pray for her Canonization and visit our new painting of her located in the vestibule of our church.

Prayer for Canonization

Most Holy and Blessed Trinity, Whom Sister Miriam loved so ardently, grant that we, like her, may become ever more conscious of Your Divine Presence within our souls. We implore You to show signs that Your humble servant enjoys glory with You in Heaven, and to hasten the day when we may render her a public tribute of our veneration and love. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Here are some of the good deeds that the children of St. Mary’s did as a way of showing their love of God and of our parish. We hope that they will always know how important what they do for God and for us truly is. Even though they are still young, they can give us a wonderful example to follow.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Stewardship Prayer

Dear Lord, O Divine Giver of all gifts, grant us the daily graces we need to follow closely in the footsteps of Jesus in the way we live out our lives and make use of our gifts. Daily, may we renew with You our small part of the world by allowing Your will to be accomplished in and through us. Help us to trust in Your love for us and to grow in our fidelity and relationship with You. We thank You for the trust You place in us as stewards of our personal gifts. May the Holy Spirit guide us in placing our time, talent and treasure at the service of each other so that together we may faithfully witness the Christian message and thus become your holy people. Amen.

Transfiguration Academy

11,000 Acts of Kindness

A Positive Approach to Lent Transfiguration students have accepted a Lenten challenge. T he Administration has challenged each student to do “1” act of kindness a day for the 40 days of Lent. If each of our 276 students does this, then we have 276 students doing 40 acts of kindness or 11,040 kind deeds during Lent. More importantly, it will instill in them the habit of doing good deeds throughout the year, and hopefully throughout their lives. Just imagine the kind of world we can have if everyone did just “1” Act of kindness a day.
