His name is John.

“On this rock, we will build Saint Joseph, our Faith and our Future” Building Campaign

It is difficult to think that from the mother’s womb someone has a defined vocation. For many of us, it seems difficult to find our paths, even after much consultation and discernment. The voca-tion of John, moreover, seems strange: leaving everything to go to the desert; to preach and be considered crazy or extravagant; and recognizing that he is not the most important. It is a very hard vocation. The nucleus of John’s calling, however, is much simpler and is what we all receive. All of us, from the womb of our mother, are called to be servants of the Lord. This call is confirmed in our Baptism. What do these servants of the Lord do? According to Isaiah, they are the ones that bring the light of God to the world. This, although it is a powerful commitment, is not that complicat-ed. It requires from us, nevertheless, living in integrity: simply in our family and social duties, caring for the needs of everyone according to our responsibility. It requires that we be good neigh-bors, cordial and helpful with others. It requires that we comply with the norms of our neighborhood and the rules of traffic, to make coexistence secure, clean, and pleasant. It requires that in our jobs we behave honestly, are reliable, punctual, never make excuses, or be lazy. It requires that, whenever possible, we comply with the duty of citizenship voting and participating. It requires that when we commit to something we fulfill it, because it is the image of Christ that we bear, which is at stake. It requires that we live in peace with eve-ryone and care for our environment. These are simple things from our daily life, which sometimes escape us when we think of something big that we may be called to; but this is the call that we all have, from the womb of our mother: to be witnesses of light and truth as John the Baptist. There is no need to go to a desert because our cities are suffi-ciently arid and harsh. It will not be necessary for us to eat any-thing special because the call is to make time to sit with the fami-ly and eat peacefully, converse, and listen to one another. When we live this way, in simplicity, truth, and justice, we will be light to the nations and, like John, we will be announcing the arrival of the Savior in our world.

FOR REFLECTION In what ways do I feel called to serve God? How can I, from my own life, be a witness of Christ today? Would people who know me, be able to know Jesus through my actions?

Es difícil pensar que desde el vientre materno alguien tenga una vocación definida. Para muchos de nosotros, es difícil encontrar el camino incluso después de mucha consulta y discernimiento. La vocación de Juan, además, parece extraña: dejarlo todo por ir al desierto, predicar y ser tomado por loco o extravagante y reco-nocer que no se es el más importante. Es una vocación muy dura. El núcleo de la llamada de Juan, sin embargo, es mucho más sencillo y es el que recibimos todos. Desde el seno de nuestra madre, estamos llamados a ser siervos del Señor. Esa llamada se confirma en nuestro Bautismo. ¿Qué hacen estos siervos del Señor? Según Isaías, son quienes llevan la luz de Dios al mundo. Aunque esto es un fuerte compromiso, no es tan complicado. Requiere de nosotros, sin embargo, vivir en integridad: sencilla-mente en nuestros deberes familiares y sociales, atendiendo a las necesidades de todos según nuestra responsabilidad. Requiere que seamos buenos vecinos, cordiales y serviciales con los demás. Requiere que cumplamos con las normas de nuestro vecindario y las normas de circulación, para hacer la convivencia más segura, limpia y agradable. Requiere que en nuestro trabajo, seamos honrados y cumplido-res, sin tardanzas, excusas, ni flojeras. Requiere que, siempre que nos sea posible, cumplamos con los deberes de la ciudada-nía votando y participando. Requiere que cuando nos comprometamos con algo lo cumpla-mos, porque está en juego la imagen de Cristo que portamos. Requiere que vivamos en paz con todos y que cuidemos de nuestro medio ambiente. Son cosas sencillas de la vida diaria, que a veces se nos esca-pan pensando en algo grande a lo que nos podemos sentir llama-dos; pero esta es la llamada que tenemos, desde el vientre de nuestra madre: ser testigos de la luz y la verdad, como Juan el Bautista. No hará falta que nos vayamos a un desierto, porque nuestras ciudades son suficientemente áridas y duras. No hará falta que comamos nada especial, porque la llamada es a hacer tiempo para sentarse con la familia a comer en paz, conversar y escu-charnos unos a otros. Cuando vivamos así, en sencillez, verdad y justicia estaremos siendo luz de las naciones, y estaremos, como Juan, anunciando la venida del Salvador a nuestro mundo.

PARA LA REFLEXIÓN ¿De qué maneras me siento llamado a servir a Dios? ¿Cómo puedo hoy, desde mi vida, ser testigo de Cristo? ¿La gente que está junto a mí podría conocer a Jesús solamente viendo cómo vivo?

I want to publicly acknowledge all of the volunteers that we have in our music ministry. We have ten Masses each weekend and it takes many people to minister effectively. These people pour their lives into this ministry and they spend much time at rehearsal and preparation (which is all unseen). Let us be grateful for their self-less dedication. And there’s always a need for more people to become involved. We could not function without these people! Would you consider joining us? Fr Jesus

2018-2019 ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL REGISTRATION Our Parochial School is now accepting registration for the upcoming school year 2018-2019.

Our school is educating and ministering students since 1887.

Registration is open for all grades Preschool (Three/Four years old) through 8th grade.

We offer a comprehensive curriculum including Art, Computers, Physical Education, Drama and Music. We have a fully equipped computer lab, gym, library and resource center. Extra curricular activities include: Student Council, Sports and Clubs.

SACRAMENTS FOR ADULTS If you are 18 years of age or older and have not yet received all your sacraments, we invite you to attend the R.C.I.A. (Rite for Christian Initiation for Adults) Classes.

Please stop by the Parish Office with your baptismal certificate (or birth certificate if you have not been baptized) to sign up. Cost of classes is $100.00

Classes are Wednesday at 7:00pm and they start in August.
