30, Tregarth,Machynlleth,

Dear Friends,

During this season of Lent we are continually reminded andencouraged to look at ourselves and how we allow things in our livesto distance us from God, preventing us from being in a truerelationship with Him.

Mark’s gospel tells us that it is the Holy Spirit that drives Jesus intothe wilderness where He faces temptation. Alone in the wildernessJesus has time to contemplate and reflect on what exactly God iscalling Him to do – He has choices to make – the ideal setting forSatan to try to dissuade Him. We often overlook the part the HolySpirit plays in this story and our lives.

We can recognise the Holy Spirit’s involvement in our lives too –driving us to places; encouraging us to contemplate new ways ofbeing; new activities to get involved with; new places where we canencounter the living God. We only have to look at our Parishes andour Church communities over the last few months – we have a newOffice in town where people notice us; where people stop to askwhat’s going on; the excitement and energy that was in ourchurches and our worship over last Christmas; I can feel anenthusiasm that is spurring us on to look at new ways of worshipand fund raising – I can see and feel the hand of the Holy Spirit atwork in our midst. It is the Holy Spirit who has brought me to whereI am today.

The Holy Spirit drives us to places where we can reflect on God’sinfluence and calling in our lives – do we recognise the places theHoly Spirit is drawing us to, is the point and, if we do, are we willingto follow? Are we willing to find that quiet place of contemplationwhere we can speak frankly to the God who loves us and willunderstand?

Are we willing to allow the Holy Spirit to do what only He can do?Are we willing to make that choice that can change our lives?

These are the two questions you might like to think about in thecoming weeks.

With every blessing to you and yours

Kathleen.
