Next Saturday, October 28th, at St. Columban Church in Garden Grove, Bishop Vann will ordain 16 men to the Sacred Order of Deacon. One of

those men is our own Ken Hobbs. After his Ordination, Deacon Ken will be assigned as Deacon here in our parish community. What a blessing for him, for us, and for the Church in the Diocese of Orange. The ministry of Deacon is that of Word and Service. Deacon Ken will join our staff as one of the clergy members. As deacon, he is able to preach at Masses and other liturgies; he can preside at Marriages (outside of Mass), at Baptism, and at Funeral and Burial liturgies. Ken is already involved in our parish with pre-baptism programs, altar server training, CLUB 7-8 faith formation, Knights of Columbus, visiting the sick, and a variety of behind the scenes activities. After more than 5 years of preparation, he is ready and we are ready to have him on board. Of course, Deacon Ken will continue his full time professional work in the field of financial planning and wealth management. Deacon Ken will serve at the 9am Mass on Sunday, October 29th; there will be a festive reception for him in the parish hall following the Mass. All are welcome.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY 2017 CHAT with POPE FRANCIS

TODAY IS WORLD MISSION SUNDAY – a day that leads us to the heart of our Christian faith – leads us to mission! Your generosity on World Mission Sunday supports the work of priests, reli-gious and lay leaders in the Missions who share our faith with those most in need. This year we can even “chat” with our chief missionary, Pope Francis, and learn more about his missions and mission-aries. Learn more at ChatWithThePope.org. Chat – Pray – Give this World Mission Sunday.

The Diocesan Office of Restorative Justice / Detention Ministry,

Needs “forever” postage stamps for “Operation Christmas Spirit”

Each year, we collect 7,000 donated postage stamps and Christmas Cards to be distributed throughout our local jails and juvenile detention facilities. It gives the incarcerated populations, which we serve, an opportunity to give back to their families and loved ones by sending them a simple Christmas greeting that they could not otherwise have without your generous contribution. We accept Christmas Cards and postage stamp donations anytime throughout the year. However, we are in desperate need of “forever” postage stamps for the supply of cards we currently have, which must be delivered to the correctional facilities by November. Donations can be dropped off or mailed to our parish office to the attention of Joan Jimenez.

All Souls’ Novena envelopes are available in the church and in the parish office. Pick one up and offer a mass for your dearly departed. The novena begins on All Souls’ Day and will end November 10.

All this month, reflecting on issues of life and dignity, we have focused our attention on the needs of God’s creation, the protection of the unborn and relief for the victims of poverty and discrimination. And well we should. But what about those other folks, those familiar faces, we see in our lives every single day? Our spouses, to begin with. Our parents if they are still living, our kids, our close friends, the neighbors on our street, the people we see at church on Sunday, the cashier at the mar-ket, the persons who deliver our mail and our morning newspaper and who pick up our trash, nurs-es, doctors, dentists even. Do we treat them all with respect or do we take them for granted? Perhaps we don’t even see them sometimes. Like they’re invisible. During a recent “Hope for Kids” walk in the park, a fellow parishioner observed how many people we passed on the trail wouldn’t even make eye contact with us, much less wave or smile. I guess it shows how isolated we’ve be-come. The truth is, each person we encounter during our walk through life is a child of God, made in his image and likeness. Not only that, each one is a gift, sent by God into our life for a purpose. Love them all. Even the grouches, the unfriendly people, the ones who refuse to make eye contact. Remember that God has sent you into their lives, too. Love them especially. ( by Bill Kramer, Life, Justice and Peace)

Our conference was established on August 6, 2009 as a continuation of our parish outreach ministry that was started by several dedicated parishioners many years before. As a separate tax exempt, non-profit unincorporated association 501c-3, we are also recognized by the International Society of St. Vincent de Paul headquartered in France, which has done great works throughout the world for over 150 years, as well as our local St. Vincent de Paul Council of Orange County (www.svdpoc.org). Our primary mission at St. Timothy’s Conference, is to provide assistance to those who are less fortunate within our parish community and from time to time families in our neighboring communities, whom might not be served by a St. Vincent de Paul Conference. Our typical clients are individuals and families that need assistance with a variety of things including but not limited to: rent, utility bills, transportation (i.e. gas and/or bus passes), medical bills, storage container fees and car repairs, etc. We ask that the client call our SVDP phone 949-249-4092 and schedule an appointment. We are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00AM to 11:00AM with our last appointment at 10:30 AM. We can also meet on Thursday evening by appointment only. We always interview our clients in teams of two in the confidential setting of the Parish Outreach Office and always make checks payable directly to the beneficiary (i.e. landlord, utility company, etc.). No funds are paid directly to the client. We typically limit the amount allocated per client to no more than $500 per year, in order that they continue to strive towards self-reliance and to allow us to help as many as possible throughout the year. If you would like to become more involved, or have other questions, please contact our President, Dennis Jans at [email protected]. Thank you very much for your support throughout the year via donations through use of the green envelopes, our 5th Sunday special collections, our Backpack drives, our Thanksgiving food drives, the Christmas Giving Tree and, of course, this special Golf Tournament donation.

Dave Koepke, from St. Timothy’s Golf Outing Committee, presents Dennis Jans, President of St. Vincent de Paul – St. Timothy Conference, a check for $13,351, which was raised at this year’s Golf Outing. The money will be used to help local families in financial need.
