FROM FR. DAN’S DESK… First of all this week, I want to extend a special Congratulations to our First Communion Class! This weekend is special for them. My thanks to their parents for continuing the commitment they made at these children’s Baptism, to raise them in the Faith. Special thanks to their teachers, godparents, grandparents, and special people in their lives! Also congratulations to our parishioner - Julia Bonfitto who made her First Communion at St. Thomas Church in West Springfield as a student at St. Thomas Elementary School, and congratulations to parishioner Timothy Loughrey for making his First Communion at Our Lady of the Cross Parish in Holyoke as a student at Mater Dolorosa School! Always celebrating the accomplishments of our Youth – I was happy to learn that our Parishioner and Senior Altar Server – Danielle Bovat was recently awarded the Kiwanis “Good Citizenship Award” from St. Mary’s High School. The Kiwanis Award of a $500 Scholarship recognizes volunteerism of a young person in the Community – Congratulations, Danielle! Also Congratulations to Kylene Mielke who placed FIRST in the State in Gymnastics for her age group. Kylene is 7 (SEVEN) years old! Can you say Olympics? Our Youth in our parish have so many varied gifts and talents – I want to thank our parishioners - Ariana Roldan and her mom – Judy Roldan, who at my request, sang a beautiful Communion Meditation Song – “I’m Your Mother” at the 11:00AM Mass on Mother’s Day. It was just beautiful and so many of you have commented on it. What a beautiful thing for mother and daughter to share with each other and all of us on Mother’s Day! Another “thank you” to Sandy O’Connor for once again conducting the Right to Life Rose Sale on Mother’s Day Weekend. Sandy takes on this fundraiser for Pro-Life Activities in the Pioneer Valley each year, and I am grateful! The week before last I had the wonderful experience of being invited by our parishioner – Elaine Lees – to attend an Art Show at the Senior Center here in Westfield. Elaine is an accomplished artist and teaches an art class at the Senior Center. I appreciated the opportunity to view some of the work of her students, as well as see the new Senior Center. Almost makes me want to be retirement age – ALMOST! I told Elaine it might be nice for us to host a “Sip and Paint” or “Chocolate and Paint” event here at the parish. She’s game- what do you think? This weekend our Parish Rosary Sodality Ladies are participating once again in a “Unity Mass and Breakfast”, this year held at St. Mary’s Parish. Last year we hosted the event here and it was wonderful to see the ladies gather together. All four of our Westfield Parishes have a Rosary Sodality and someone suggested having an event gathering all the ladies together from the four churches. As they say – “there is power in numbers” - and when you put all these ladies together – wow – what a powerhouse of faith, energy and enthusiasm! It’s also nice for the 4 parishes to cooperate with one another on a project or event like this! Thanks to Nancy Garen and Ursula Tuohey for coordinating this event on behalf of our ladies! The collection of donated items for our Parish Indoor Tag Sale June 2-4 has begun! Many “treasures” have been pouring into the Parish Center over the last week. Please see the bulletin for details about time and days for drop off of items, or if you need “pick-up”, call Ron Gerlip at 413-579-8792. My sincere thanks again to Ron and Linda Gerlip for coordinating this Tag Sale and spending many hours sorting and pricing items! This year’s Tag Sale will benefit OUR PARISH, so please participate as a “giver” or a “buyer”! Not sure if you have noticed, but this year we have two bird’s nests in our parish wreaths on the doors of the church! We would have had three, but since we lock and block those doors for the birds we’d have no doors left to get into the church! I think it says something about our church that even the birds of the air want to nest in its shelter!!! Next weekend we will celebrate our annual Memorial Day Mass at the 11:00AM Mass, and following the Mass we will have our Outdoor Memorial Day Ceremony and Flag Raising at our Veteran’s Memorial Garden. This year’s Flag is donated by Cheryl Fortier and Pam Fortier Burl in memory of Paul Dupre, father and grandfather, who was an Army Veteran of World War II. Our Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will participate along with a wreath laying and firing squad. Thanks to our parishioner - Bob Ragone for coordinating our Program each year! One of the ways we can teach our children the importance of faith and country, is to teach them to honor the men and women who have served or are serving our country in military service! Come to the 11:00 Mass next Sunday or the Service afterward! Finally, I am very grateful for all of the donations that have come in for Deacon Barrent’s Vestment that we are planning to give to him as a gift from the Parish! We have now paid for the vestment with a little extra besides. The vestment and any additional gifts will be given to Barrent along with a list of those who contributed! I hope many of you are planning to attend Deacon Barrent’s Ordination to support him from our Parish! We have a nice King Ward Bus reserved! Parking at the Cathedral is tight for such big events – so take the bus – but please call Sue in the 0914 3

Please join him on this important day!God Bless, Fr. Dan

MAY 21, 2017 SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Cling to God, and leave all the rest to Him: He will not let you perish. Your soul is very dear to Him, He wishes to save it.

God created a world big enough for all the lives He wishes to be born. It is only our hearts that are not big enough to want them and accept them. We are too afraid of the sacrifices we might have to make.
