HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTION FOR DECEMBER:

In the Service of the Transmission of Faith

That people, who are involved in the service and transmission of faith, may find, in their dialogue with culture, a language suited to the conditions of the present time.

FATHER LEDOUX’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR DECEMBER

WORSHIP: As we begin a New Liturgical year, may the Holy Spirit deepen our desire to pray each day with intention about God and His will for our lives. FAITH FORMATION: May the Season of Advent be for parents (and their children) a time of anticipation and spiritual preparation of the heart and mind for the celebration of Jesus Christ's coming on Christmas Day. EVANGELIZATION: That others will be able to experience Jesus in us, may we cleanse our hearts from sin in Confession, so Christ may find no obstacle to dwelling within us. SOCIAL JUSTICE: As we reflect on our blessings this Advent, may they be cause for praise and gratitude to God and lead us to act upon the needs of the poor, refugee, abandoned, imprisoned and disregarded. 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.' BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES: That we will begin this New Liturgical year with increased generosity of our time, talent and treasure to God here at St. Peter, where we are called to be build His Kingdom.

LIGHTING THE ADVENT WREATH IN YOUR HOME

FOURTH SUNDAY & WEEK OF ADVENT Pour forth Thy power, O Lord, and Come. Assist us by that Mighty Power, so that by Thy grace and Merciful Kindness we may swiftly receive the salvation that our sins impede for Thy live and reign with God the Father, in the Unity of the Holy Spirit, ever One God, world without end. Amen.

The humble, simple souls, who are little enough to see the bigness of God in the littleness of a Babe, are therefore the only ones who

will ever understand the reason of His visitation. He came to this poor earth of ours to carry on an exchange; to say to us, as only

the Good God could say: 'you give me your humanity, and I will give you my Divinity; you give me your time, and I will give you

My eternity; you give me your broken heart, and I will give you Love; you give me your nothingness, and I will give you My all.

BLESSING FOR THE CHRISTMAS CRIB

A Blessing Prayer for When Baby Jesus Is Placed in the Manger…

O God of every nation: From the very beginning of creation You have made manifest Your love: When our need for a Savior was great, You sent Your Son to be born of the Virgin Mary. To our lives He brings joy and peace, justice, mercy and love. Lord, bless all

who look upon this manger; may it remind us of the humble birth of Jesus, and raise up our thought to Him, who is our Emmanuel and Savior of all, Who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

THE CHRISTMAS SEASON Christmas is more than a day - it is a season lasting until the Feast of Jesus’ Baptism, January 13th. Use these days to continue to show your joy of Jesus’ Birth by continued prayer, celebrations and visits to the lonely and ill.

CHRIST CANDLE OF HOPE PRAYER

Prayer for the Twelve Days of Christmas

God, our loving Father, You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, into this world to counter all the forces of evil: sin, suffering and death, and to overcome evil with the force of good; hatred with the power of love, Your great love for us in Jesus.

Help us never to curse the darkness, but to join with You in bringing Your light into this world, the light that is Your Son, born of the Virgin Mary, in Bethlehem. Help us to be instruments of Your light and love by doing one special act of kindness or by being Your special instrument of reconciliation this New Year.

May the Christ Candle we light symbolize our desire to bring light into a world of darkness and hope into a world of despair. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY & JOSEPH Sunday, December 30th

Scripture tells us practically nothing about the first years and the boyhood of the Child Jesus. All we know are the facts of the sojourn in Egypt, the return to Nazareth, and the incidents that occurred when the twelve-year-old boy accompanied his

parents to Jerusalem. In her liturgy the Church hurries over this period of Christ's life with equal brevity. The general breakdown of the family, however, at the end of the past century and at the beginning of our own, prompted the popes, especially the far-sighted Leo XIII, to promote the observance of this feast with the hope that it might instill into Christian families something of the faithful love and the devoted attachment that characterize the family of Nazareth. The primary purpose of the Church in instituting and promoting this feast is to present the Holy Family as the model and exemplar of all Christian families.

URGENT NEED: Sunday: 2am; 8am; alternate for 12am PRO-LIFE REFLECTIONS

“There has been born to you a Savior, Who is Christ, the Lord.” ~Lk 2:11

REFLECTION: From the beginning of time, prophets announced that the Messiah of the Lord would come. “Messiah,” or “Christ” means “Anointed One.”

On Christmas, this prophecy was fulfilled in a surprising way, because the Angels did not simply announce that Jesus was the Messiah of the Lord. They said the newborn child was Messiah AND Lord.

PRAYER: Fill us, Lord, with the wonder of God joining our human family and raising our dignity beyond our imagination.

DIVINE MERCY MESSAGE

“JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU” St. Faustina: “December 23, [1936]. I am spending this time with the Mother of God and preparing myself for the solemn moment of the coming of the Lord Jesus. The Mother of God is instructing me in the interior life of the soul with Jesus, especially in

Holy Communion. It is only in eternity that we shall know the great mystery effected in us by Holy Communion. O most precious moments of my life!” (Diary 840)

To the faithful of the Diocese of Lafayette:

The richness of our Catholic Faith and the history of the Diocese of Lafayette have been well celebrated in this centennial year. Through the efforts and creativeness of so many during this past year we have honored all those who gave birth to our diocese, nurtured it through the years, and paved the way for the future.

We have learned, through the research and writings of many, of the wonderful history of our diocese, of its struggles and triumphs, of the dedication and perseverance of the men and women who brought their vision, hard work, and often tears to our part of the world to build something special here in Acadiana. It has been a most wonderful year of celebrating all of what we are a part of: our collective faith in which we have come together as the Diocese of Lafayette.

Our world has greatly changed in the past 100 years. From simpler times back in 1918 to the complexities of these, our modern times. Yet through it all, through all of the hardships, challenges, and opportunities our Catholic faith remains solid, vibrant, and alive.

I thank our Metropolitan Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond of New Orleans for being with us and serving as presider and homilist for our mass today. I thank the talented and dedicated members of the Centennial Committee for making our centennial year a great one. My thanks also goes out to all the clergy and religious throughout our diocese for their lifelong service to the people of God. And lastly, I want to express gratitude to all Catholics, those from the past 100 years and those of today, who are active as volunteers in their Church parishes and in the many religious organizations and Catholic charities that are at the core of our diocese. You are the Diocese of Lafayette.

Now, we look ahead to our next century, to what God will guide us towards, to what awaits us and those who will follow in our steps. In doing so, I pray to our Blessed Mother to watch over our diocese and to keep it under her care and protection for our second hundred years. May God bless us all.

Faithfully yours in Christ, Most Reverend J. Douglas Deshotel, D.D. Bishop of Lafayette

O Lord Jesus Christ, great High Priest, I pray that You call many worthy souls to Your holy priesthood. Enlighten the Bishop and Vocation Director in the choice of candidates, the Spiritual Directors in molding them, and the professors in instructing them. Lead the seminarians daily in Your unerring footsteps, so that they may become priests who are models of purity, possessors of wisdom, and heroes of sacrifice. May they be steeped in humility and aflame with love for God and man, apostles of Your glory, and sanctifiers of souls. Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us. Amen.

Build a poor family a sturdy home for just $6,000!

In contrast to the deplorable living conditions many Haitian families endure, the Kobonal Haiti Mission builds quality four-room concrete block homes with durable roofs that are strong enough to withstand heavy storms. When a family is chosen to receive a home, this life-changing gift is more than a simple handout. The family is invited to participate in the

building process alongside a professional construction crew. This “sweat equity” preserves the family’s dignity and helps them develop a sense of personal ownership and pride over their new home. Through this process, the Mission honors each father, mother and child as a sacred life created in God’s image and divinely loved. An Advent gift of $6,000 from St. Peter parishioners and Carencro Catholic School families will cover the cost of materials and labor to build a durable concrete house for a poor Haitian family. Please be generous!

Donations are to be brought to the church on the weekend of December 22/23, the 4th Sunday of Advent. A donation receptacle is provided near the main entrance doors.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP!

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT - FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT As we draw close to the great Feast of the Nativity, we hear the bold stewardship proclamation twice in today’s second reading from the Letter to the Hebrews: “Behold, I come to do Your will, O God!” Who is this Jesus? Who are we that we should follow Him? Many want Him as a friend, a guide, a king, an advocate. We long to see the face of God. Jesus reveals the nature of God, the servant sent to give us new life in Him. Take time to ponder: Do we have the courage to follow Jesus? To show others the face of God? To say to the Lord: “Behold, I come to do Your will?”

ROSARY FOR PEACE - A Rosary for peace for our country & our soldiers will be prayed every Thursday before 6:30am Mass.

As we approach the end of the year and the gift giving season, take a quiet moment to consider the gift St. Peter parish is to your family. Help us preserve this gift for the present generation and future generations to come.

PLANNED GIVING St. Peter is an accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; we accept remembrances in your Will, gifts of Property, cash, Life Insurance cash value and beneficiary designation, Charitable Gift Annuities, Stocks, Bonds and Mutual Funds. Making a planned gift through a will, estate plan, or another type of deferred gift such as an IRA or retirement fund, life insurance policy, or charitable trust is an opportunity to provide our church with future support. Planned giving wouldn't cost you anything now but would provide for St. Peter as an act of love after you are gone.

100% TAX DEDUCTIBLE All contributions are 100% tax deductible. Your giving is, of course, more than tax planning. Your gift and investment into Eternal things makes a huge difference in the lives of many. Thank you in advance for your generosity to our parish!
