Registration occurs every spring to prepare for the coming year’s program.
CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS The process where those “inquiring” about becoming a Roman Catholic are invited to journey with Church members in sharing their faith, while discerning God’s call to conversion. Please contact the parish for further information.
PARISH MEMBERSHIP
New members should contact the Parish Office to pre-register for an Evening of Welcome at which time the process of formally becoming a parishioner will be initiated. We receive many requests for certificates of sponsorship for Baptism and Confirmation. Certificates can only be given to registered members of the parish that actively practice their faith. Members are those who regularly attend Mass and participate in and support the life of the Church.
SACRAMENTS
BAPTISM The Rite of Baptism is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month following the 11:00 A.M. mass and the third Sunday of the month at the 11:00 A.M. liturgy, except during Lent. Parents must attend an obligatory preparation session prior to the child’s birth. Arrangements for a Baptismal date are made at that session.
MATRIMONY In accordance with Diocesan policy, couples wishing to be married at OLL must participate in a one-year preparation program, which includes FOCCUS, Pre-Cana, God’s Plan for a Faith-Filled Marriage and required paperwork. Please confirm the date with the Church prior to making other plans. Marriages take place on Fridays and Saturdays—no Sunday weddings.

A NOTE FROM FATHER LEN Each year during the flu season, the Office of Worship of the Diocese and I receive inquiries about how to liturgically address this issue. The most current information regarding Influenza and the Liturgy is available from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops web site. On that website the U.S. Conference notes, “the need for the introduction of widespread liturgical adaptations for the prevention of the transmission of influenza in the dioceses of the United States of America is not evident at this time.” The Office of Worship advises us to follow the advice provided by the U. S. Conference of Bishops. We remind parishioners that while a “handshake” is the customary gesture of peace, other gestures are equally acceptable (i.e. a slight bow to nearby individuals). Since the shaking of hands is the most common method of spreading influenza and other gestures that do not involve a handshake are acceptable, there is no good reason to eliminate the Rite of Peace. Additionally, the Precious Blood will continue to be presented at all parish Masses as it is considered normative in the Diocese of Metuchen. Those who feel ill or those who are uncomfortable receiving from the Chalice are invited to receive only from one species. Remember to take advantage of our Choir Concert this Sunday afternoon. It is a good way to keep the joyful spirit of a few weeks ago before we enter the season of Lent.

FAMILY PRAYER
God and Father of us all,
in Jesus, your Son and our Savior,
you have made us
your sons and daughters
in the family of the Church.
May your grace and love
help our families
in every part of the world
be united to one another
in fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family,
with the aid of your Holy Spirit,
guide all families,
especially those most troubled,
to be homes of communion and prayer
and to always seek your truth and live in your love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, pray for us!
