Parish Bulletin of Old Mission Santa Inés November 29 & 30, 2014 First Sunday of Advent (Isaiah 63:16b-17, 19b; 64:2-7; 1 Corinthians 1:3-9; Mark 13:33-37) “Watch!” This word oc- curs three times in to- day’s Gospel passage. Moreover, it is placed at significant points: the beginning, the center, and the end. Though this is technically a parable, it is quite short (four verses). The threefold repetition of “watch” leaves no doubt as to what the story is about. We often think of Advent as a time of waiting, but it truly is a season of watchfulness, a very ac- tive form of waiting for the com- ing Day of the Lord. It is that day, more than Christmas day, that the Christian community faithfully expects, using all of our gifts and talents for this purpose, as Paul reminds us in the Letter to the Corinthians. When we use these gifts in faithful watching and expecta- tion, we become like the servants of the parable, set to their tasks, not waiting around idly, but en- gaged in the master’s work until his return. Our annual Christmas Bell Concert,

performed by the residents of Friend-

ship House, is scheduled for Monday,

December 8, at 10:30 AM. The event

will be in our parish church. All parish-

ioners are invited to attend. The Minis-

try of Hospitality and Community Care

are proud and delighted to host this

precious event.

Advent Bilingual Reconciliation

Service is on Wednesday, Decem-

ber 10, at 7:00 PM in the church.

There will be priests available to

hear your confessions in English or

Spanish.
