National Shrine of the Divine Mercy Trip
The Ladies Guild will be organizing a trip to the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, MA on Wednesday, October 16th. We will be arranging carpools for the day, leaving St. John’s parking lot at 8:30AM. This will allow time to explore the grounds of the shrine. The weekday schedule has Confession and Adoration from 1:00 - 2:00 followed by Mass at 2:00. There is also a Rosary for Life at 1:30 and the Perpetual Novena and Chaplet of Divine Mercy along with veneration of St. Faustina’s relics starting at 3:00. Participants must bring their own lunch since food is not sold there. There is a gift shop with a large selection of Catholic books and religious articles.
There will be signup sheets in the back of the churches through October 6th. Please provide your contact information including an email and phone number. We also need to know if you are able to drive, along with how many people you can take in your car, or if you need a ride. If you have any questions, please contact Pat Denema at [email protected] or 845-855-3275.

New Music Director I am happy to announce that St. John the Evangelist Church has a new music director, Mr. Conner David McCain. Conner will begin his tenure here on September 21, 2019. If you recall Conner helped us during the Easter Triduum in April. His musical credentials and talents are outstanding, and he is a deeply faithful, Catholic man who focuses his art to give glory to God in all things. Conner will be living here in Pawling with his wife, Sarah, a professor of theology at Mt. St. Mary College in Newburgh. Conner and Sarah recently moved to Pawling from the Washington DC area where Conner is completing his master’s degree in music at Catholic University of America. I am looking forward to working with Conner to provide beautiful Catholic liturgical hymnody for our parish, a goal of mine when I became pastor last year. Please pray with me for Conner and Sarah: For Conner, we pray through the intercession of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians; and for Sarah, to St. Augustine, the patron saint of theologians. By off ering their gifts to our parish, may God continue to bless both of them as they begin a new life in Pawling, and help us raise our worship to the greatest honor possible to God’s glory. Finally, allow me to take this opportunity to thank Taff y Lee Williams, who helped us in this time of transition as we sought a permanent music director for our parish. Taff y did a wonderful job providing music at St. John. Taff y is currently an adjunct professor of music at Westchester Community College in Valhalla and provides music for the Sparkill Dominican Sisters in Sparkill, NY. Let us continue to pray for Taff y in work she does for the Church, and in teaching young people music. Taff y will be missed.
