“Work should be the setting for rich personal growth, where many aspects of life enter into play: creativity, planning for the future, developing our talents, living out our values, relating to others, giving glory to God. It follows that, in the reality of today’s global society, it is essential that ‘we continue to prioritize the goal of access to steady employment for everyone,’ no matter the limited interests of business and dubious economic reasoning. We were created with a vocation to work. The goal should not be that tech-nological progress increasingly replace human work, for this would be detrimental to humanity. Work is a necessity, part of the meaning of life on this earth, a path to growth, human development and person-al fulfillment. Helping the poor financially must always be a provisional solution in the face of pressing needs. But, the broader objective should always be to allow the poor to have dignified life through work.”

Pope Francis, On Care for Our Common Home [Laudato Si], nos. 127-28

Please note that, following our usual holiday schedule, there will be the single Mass at 9:00 AM on Monday, September 3rd. The Rectory will be closed so that priests and staff may spend the day with family and friends. Enjoy this “unofficial” end of summer!

OUR PARISH PLEDGE We, who are “the living stones” of God’s

Church, PROMISE TO: – intentionally pray AND act to express our personal and communal REMORSE for victims of clergy abuse, – passionately pray AND act to bring to JUSTICE those who have permanently injured the innocent, and – scrupulously pray AND act to guarantee SAFETY for everyone in our midst, especially the vulnerable …

as God is our witness!

R.C.I.A. Christian Initiation: Sep 19th Never Baptized?

Would Like to be Received into the Catholic Church? Baptized, but Never Received First Eucharist? Baptized, but Never received Confirmation?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the usual way we welcome people who would like to: – be baptized, or – be received into the Catholic Church, or – receive the Eucharistic Confirmation. Anyone interested in participating in this process (Sep – Apr) contact Colleen Glazer, Parish Program Manager, [212-787-0634] and plan to meet in the rectory for the first time on Wednesday, September 19th

The Rhythm of the Christian Life

We are getting ready to kick-off the new Parish Year (Sep-May) this week. The Liturgical Year begins on Dec. 2nd, the First Sunday of Advent and extends through Nov. 30, 2019.

Parents of Boys and Girls, Gr. 5 and Older

Boys and girls in the 5th grade and older will soon be invited to be rained and then formally blessed as Trinity Altar Servers. It’s a great honor to assist the priest in the celebration of the Eucharist in the name of our parishioners. Serving Mass also displays an excellent model of prayer and good behavior for other children. Please consider it; give them the opportunity to shine! Watch the Bulletin for an announcement next week.

Sophia, ChurchMouse Reporting unseen works of faith, hope and charity to uplift you.

Well, my family of rodents and I are back from the wilds of Central Park, and there really is no place like “home sweet Trinity,” is there? Sometimes we forget how fortunate we are to be a lively Church [and remember WE are the Church] in our unique, historic Byzantine basilica-like church on the Upper West Side. Here for over 120 years we have been: – Worshipping, – Forming Christians, – Building Community, and – Reaching out to the needy

+ Holy Trinity – 10 Years Ago + “from the archives!”

For Your Interest and Information Save Friday, Nov. 14th, Carnegie Hall, 8:00 PM, when two Holy Trinity Choir Alumni – Ana Maria Martinez and Carla Wesby – will be singing with the Philharmonic in “West Side Story,” as part of the Leonard Bernstein Anniversary Festival. (10/05/08) Next Sunday, Nov. 2nd, the Religious Ed. Program will have Family Day. Parents, siblings, and other family members will attend class together. Whole Family Catechesis, in fact, Whole Community Catechesis, is a vision of faith formation that is rooted in the documents of Vatican II. It promotes faith formation as an ongoing and lifelong process that can be greatly supported by intergenerational learning and interac-tion. Our Family Day topic will be “All Saints.” (10/26/08) Next Sunday, Nov. 23rd, we are planning a special trip to the Museum of the City of New York to catch the “Catholics in New York: 1808-1946” exhibit. Special rates! Meet church steps at noon. See flyer for more. (11/16/08) For the weekend of Nov. 29-30, Holy Trinity will host Bethlehem Christian Families, who will have hand-carved olive wood artifacts on sale, just in time for unique Christmas presents. Details to follow. (11/16/08) At the 9:30 Mass on Dec. 14th, Gaudete Sunday in Advent, we will again honor our Expectant Families, both those awaiting the birth of a child and those adopting. (11/16/08)
