Second Collection: TODAY

The biennial, Second Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services [serving Catholic parishes of military men and women and their children] will be taken up in all the parishes of the United States next weekend. Please consider making a donation to this worthy cause.

Veterans Day

Tomorrow, November 11th, is the annual day we think of, and thank, those who put on the uniform on behalf of all of us who hold democratic principles dear. Think of the courage a person needs to put them-selves in harm’s way! As is our custom, tomorrow, November 11th, is a federal holiday, so our rectory office will be closed, and the 5:30 PM Mass will not be celebrated on Monday.

“All Souls” Envelopes They will remain on our altar throughout November

Remember all the deceased members of your family and friends by picking up an “All Souls” envelope, listing all of your deceased relatives and friends on the back, and place it in any of our collections.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Festive Thanksgiving Dinner Dedicated to our beloved

Spiritual inspiration Monsignor Thomas P. Leonard

Following the 5:30 Mass on Sunday, November 24th, you are all welcome to attend this traditional feast, downstairs, in the Murphy Center, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. It will be hosted, as always, by the Holy Trinity Parish Community of Roman Catholic (CRC). Along with your fellow parishioners, enjoy a delicious buffet of turkey with all the trimmings and desserts. Our only request if you presence and a $20 donation//person to support our ministries! Bring you family and friends ~ or make some new ones ~ all are more than welcome! It is a great night for our community to come together to socialize and catch up with friends old and new. Please note that this event is NOT a pot luck. Gobble! Gobble!

Counting Heads (and Hearts) The Archdiocese requires each parish to take a count of parishioners at Mass in October to better know whom we serve in Christ’s name. At Holy Trinity, we do it twice to capture a more accurate figure. And we are 1190 HT souls. What a parish!

Parish Lectors The new Liturgical Year begins in three weeks. At your convenience, please pick up your copy of At Home with The Word, 2020, stored below the vestments in the sacristy closet.

Year of Grace, 2019 to End! Year of Grace, 2020 to Begin!

As it has occurred for millennia, we, the Church, begin a new Liturgical Year on December 1st, the First Sunday of Advent. The Sunday Lectionary Year “A” will feature the Gospel of Saint Matthew.

Blessing of All Liturgical Ministers At each Sunday Mass on the weekend of December 8th, Monsignor Sandi will ask all of our liturgical ministers to stand at their pews, be recognized for all they do for us at the Sacred Liturgy, and receive a special blessing on behalf of all of us Holy Trinity parishioners.

PARISH Advisory COUNCIL The Pastoral staff will with selected representatives of parishioners at 5:00 PM on Sunday, November 24th to review the early part of this Parish Year and discuss upcoming matters. More to follow.

Tomorrow is a day of celebration for ordinary men and women who do ordinary things on extra-ordinary circumstances, risking their lives every day. And, sometimes, they even die! Maya Angelou said it best when she observed, “How very important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes … and ‘she-roes!’”

MEMORIAL by Paul Turner A memorial is a day of celebration on the Church calendar. It ranks below solemnities and feasts. Some memorials are so minor that they are optional. The others are obligatory. Memorials include the observance of saints’ days in honor of Thomas Aquinas (1/28), Catherine of Siena (4/29), Justin (6/1), Anthony of Padua (6/13), Benedict (7/11), Mary Magdalene (7/22), Dominic (8/8), Clare (8/11), Maximilian Kolbe (8/14), Monica (8/27), Augus-tine (8/28), Gregory the Great (9/3), Jerome (9/30), Thérèse of Lisieux (10/1), Guardian Angels (10/ 2), Francis of Assisi (10/4), Our Lady of the Rosary (10/7)], Martin of Tours (11/11), Cecelia (11/22), and Lucy (12/13). There are many more. If a memorial falls on a day of higher rank – a Sunday, for example – it is not observed at the liturgy that year. Falling on a weekday, however, an obligatory memorial will always be observed. Optional memorials (such as Hedwig on 10/16 or John Kanty on 12/23) may be ignored. On a memorial day, the readings at the Mass are generally those of the usual weekday. Optional readings are supplied in the lectionary for each memorial, but these are not required. In some cases, when the saint of the day is mentioned in the New Testament, the reading for the memorial is obligatory. This happens, for example, with Mary Magdalene. The collect (opening prayer) will always be proper to the memorial. The prayer over the offerings, the preface, and the prayer after communion may also pertain to the memorial. The priest vests in a color associated with the saint of the day. Usually the color is white.
