A time of change

DfE – Level 2 pass: 9- 4 – emphasis upon terminal exams

• broadly the same proportion of students will achieve a grade 4 and above as used to achieve a grade C and above

• broadly the same proportion of students will achieve a grade 7 and above as used to achieve a grade A and above

• broadly the same proportion of students will achieve a grade 1 and above as used to achieve a grade G and above

• A grade 4 will continue to be a level 2 achievement. The Department for Education does not expect employers, colleges or universities to raise the bar to a grade 5 if a grade 4 would meet their requirements.

Parents’ Evening – 14 March 2019

An opportunity to find out how your child has done up that point.

How can I further

support my child?

How can a parent be more proactive?

“Parental involvement in

children’s learning is a

key factor in improving

children’s academic

attainment and

achievements, as well as

their overall behaviour

and attendance”

“Parents have the

greatest influence

on achievement”

(Harris & Goodall

University of Warwick

DfE)

“Good quality home learning contributes more to

children’s intellectual and social development than

parental occupation, education or income”

(DfE)

Page 14: Parents Supporting Learningfluencycontent2-schoolwebsite.netdna-ssl.com...YEAR 10 INFORMATION EVENING 28 February 2019 Please switch mobile phones off Parents Supporting Learning How

“The level of interest that parents take in their children’s

education is six times more important for a pupil’s

eventual grades than the child’s own effort.

Parental effort is also four times more important than

how hard the school works to help children’s progress.”

(Universities of Leicester and Leeds)

So ... the biggest influence on attainment is PARENTS

“It is their support of learning

within the home environment

that makes the maximum

difference to achievement” (DfE)
