of Talent Search
Back Page Story

Welcome note from the Director:
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our parents/guardians to our UCB Pre-
College TRIO Parents Corner newsletter. The purpose of these newsletters is to keep you
inform of what is happening in PCT programs, the community and potential resources to help
both you and your child. As a parent, I encourage you to take an active role in your child’s
education and take advantage of all the opportunities our programs have to offer.
This year our Talent Search Program is celebrating 50 years in existence. Last year we cele-
brated Upward Bound’s 50th, so we are hoping to do the same with Talent Search this sum-
mer. We would like former & current students and parents to come and join us. We will be
posting the date, times and location in future newsletters.
Our program can only work with the help and support of all of you. I welcome all parents/
guardians input, comments and submissions for any future newsletters. Enjoy our first edi-
tion! #trioworks
Respectfully,
Kolondra

Please make sure that your child is meeting with their college advisors out at their school site. We expect that ALL SENIORS fill out an exit interview questionnaire before they graduate in June.
We will be giving all uprising seniors and graduating seniors who need to re-take Algebra II, at-tending a Community College and assessed into a math class that is not Statistics or Calculus a chance to attend our (free) six week SummerUp Program at Berkeley City College this summer. Dates: June 15-July 24, 2015. Please contact the director for further information.
Upward Bound Saturday Academies dates: April 18th, CAL Day, and May 9th, End of the Year Saturday Academy.
If you are a parent of a Senior who has been accepted to any colleges, please make sure that your child has SIR (Student Intent to Register) by the May 1st deadline. If they do not, this could jeop-ardize their acceptance in the fall. Also your child will need to submit their final transcripts to the college of their acceptance( SIR) NO later than July 1st, 2015.
All Juniors who are interested in applying for colleges this upcoming Fall, should be signing up and taking the SAT & ACT in the months of May and June. June 6th SAT Test: Registration deadline is May 8th. June 13th ACT Test: Registration deadline is May 8th. Please have your child see their College Advisor for a fee waiver for these test.
All senior participants in our PCT programs will be asked to participate in an exit interview with their respective College Advisor. This process is simple and will be available to do online or on hard copy. Please parents have your child fill this exit interview questionnaire out. This is used for our annual performance reports and funding for our PCT programs.
Our program will be hosting an End of the Year celebrations for our seniors. We will keep all stu-dents and parents updated with information as it comes to my attention. Please check our PCT website for the time, date and location( www.pct.berkeley.edu)

Happy 50th Anniversary Talent Search!
This year marks the 50th
Anniversary of the Talent Search program, which
has guided more than 11 million students and their families through the
college preparation and application process. Talent Search grew out of
President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Higher Education Act (HEA), established
with the goal of seeing that “no American talent is wasted.” HEA also cele-
brates its 50th Anniversary this year. The HEA is arguably the most signifi-
cant piece of legislation governing American higher education. These an-
niversaries, coming in the same year, make 2015 a milestone in the histo-
ry of higher education.
