Link Found Between Heavy Use of Facebook and Eating Disorders By Judy Siegel Study identifies a link between the frequency of Facebook access and eating disorders. A negative self-image develops as teenage girls are bombarded with the physical ideals presented in American culture. “The more they were on the social network, the more likely they were to suffer from bulimia or anorexia.” However, when parents engage in a dialogue with their daughter about the content viewed, the girls felt more empowered and had a “better body image.” http://sks.sirs.com/cgi-bin/hst-article-display?id=SWCTYS39-0-5265&artno=0000311345&type=ART&shfilter=U&key=facebook%20and%20eating%20disorder&title=Link%20Found%20Between%20Heavy%20Use%20of%20Facebook%20and%20Eating%20Disorders%2E%2E%2E&res=Y&ren=Y&gov=Y&lnk=Y&ic=YSiegel, Judy. Parenting Millennials - "Back To School? Why Bother?" by Kathryn Booth They’ve watched parents sacrifice relationships and families to work 50-60 hour weeks. “Millennials have watched parents downsized out of jobs. If we care for our Millennials, we need to take steps to inject the possibility of something more and accept that they have an alternate set of choices that seem insanely risky to previous generations, but to Millennials who cut their teeth on constant change is not intimidating at all.” Regarding education: parents of Millennials need to be active in their children’s education and work with the schools to keep Millennials engaged. It Takes a Village, Not a Tiger By Pollitt Katha Parents who consider themselves a type, whether a “tiger mom” or a “helicopter parent” or even a “free spirit,” are bound to have better adjusted children than those parents who do not fall under these labels. According to this article, it is time and resources that lead to the successful future of so many young students not a particular type of strategic parenting. The concern is then raised, what happens to those who lack the support needed for their education? The focus needs to become the children in poverty. Pollitt, Katha . Round and Round They Go (LIFE) By Sharon Jayson Millennial parents, often referred to as “helicopter parents,” have created their own style of parenting. Their knowledge of technology and their frequent use has led to them allowing their children computer time and utilizing computer games to teach the children colors, numbers, and the alphabet. Additionally, millennial parents work to reduce their commutes to allow for more family time, family meals, and “quality time.”USA Today (Sept 28, 2006): p.08D. How Parents Became Cool; TV Finds Teens Like Their Moms and Attempts to Flatter Both

By Amy Chozick TV executives have changed the way parents are portrayed on TV. Think back to Ward and June, the Cunninghams, and even the Huxtables. On televisions, these parents were often viewed as “out-of-touch and unhip.” These Millennials seem be “less rebellious” and are changing television. Young people are not cast as rebels and trouble-makers. Parents are often more in-touch with their children; even their friends. Additionally, this article reports that more teens now watch the same TV shows as their parents. Television executives, like other employers, must continue to adjust to the dynamics of the Millennials.Citation:Chozick, Amy. "How Parents Became Cool." Wall Street Journal. 28 Apr 2010: D.1. Parents are forced to learn how to text and post on social networking sites to contact their children. Not all parents have warmed-up to the new means of communicating.
