On January 24, 2013, Governor Pat Quinn signed a new law requiring schools to implement age-appropriate sexual abuse, assault awareness and prevention curriculum in grades Pre-K-12. Join us to learn more how D123 plans to create a safe and engaging environment where children will learn about the dangers of sexual abuse, resources to protect themselves and prevent future incidents of sexual assault and abuse.

Elements of Home Life that Impact Academic Performance

This interactive session will engage participants in dialogue about the various elements of home life that can potentially impact students’ academic performance. Subtopics include: times to have meaningful conversations with children (include: goal setting?), making time for reading together, healthy sleep habits, and the value of physical activity and imaginary play. The session will start with an overview of pertinent research followed by a whole group conversation, and Q&A.

Robert Crown: A Parent Primer for 5th Grade Families

The miracle of life and the functions of the reproductive anatomy are important topics for pre-adolescents. As physical and developmental changes occur, they need to be equipped with the facts about their reproductive organs and the creation of human life. This session is offered to parents of 5th grade students preparing for their trip to the Robert Crown Center. Parents will learn about the program goals, what the students will learn, and be able to ask questions about the program.

The Escape Key - Indicators of Success

Bring the family to an escape of epic proportion! Participate in the D123 version of an “escape room” challenge while learning about the importance of our success indicators. The evening will begin with an overview defining our success indicators and digging into their importance in the classroom and beyond. Then, be locked into a classroom at OLHMS and utilize the talents of the collective to solve puzzles and determine a passcode to break out. Prizes await those who escape (and for those who don’t!). Pizza roundtable highlights ways in which students experience success indicators at school, and how to make a connection to them at home. Leave with question prompts to continue the conversation long after the escape.

Board Game Bonanza!

Board games provide a wonderful opportunity for us to spend time with those we care about. They can also serve as a powerful learning tool for children of all ages.
