Parent/Carer Newsletter – Issue 9, 2nd July 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are so fortunate to have a beautiful school site with a garden, which Year 5 used recently to

learn about the life cycles of plants. The pond is currently being re-lined and spruced up. Carol has

worked very carefully to look after the newts that live there, even giving them a little wooden

platform to rest on and catch the sun.

The children have worked very hard on their end of year assessments and teachers are working hard

writing school reports. Year 6 are counting down and practising hard for their end of year

performance.

A huge thank you to the mum of Afriyie and Kwaku for coming in to teach the children about her job

as a Pharmacist-the children and staff were fascinated by her talk and learned about why medicines

are important and how to stay safe around medicine.

To those children working from home-we miss you and look forward to having you back in school

next week.

The Governors have asked me to pass on their thanks to all parents for your continued commitment

to our lovely school. In our school, every child matters to God. You and your children have

weathered a difficult year but honestly-make every day working in this school worthwhile,

Have a lovely weekend all,

Best wishes,

A Prayer for all those to be ordained this Peter-tide.

Almighty God, the giver of all good gifts, by your Holy Spirit you have appointed various orders of

Ministry in the Church:

Look with mercy on your servants now called to be deacons and priests;

Maintain them in truth and renew them in holiness,

That by word and good example they may faithfully serve you to the glory of your name

And the benefit of your Church;

Through the merits of our Saviour Jesus Christ,

Who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

One God, now and for ever.

Amen

Have a look at the message below sent from the Camden Health Team – well done and keep it up!

“The Race to Health: Taking on Tokyo is half way through and across Camden and Islington over 440,000 active minutes have been logged.

Congratulations St Mary & St Pancras you are doing great, keep up the good work!

Your school is currently 6th in the race with a total of 20,513 active minutes logged meaning that as a school you’ve travelled as far as Amsterdam, Netherlands and are well on the way to Moscow, Russia which is the next stop on your journey to Tokyo.

Well done Year 2, you are currently leading in front as the most active with Year 6 in second place.

The Race to Health Team”

YEAR 1 We were so lucky in Year 1 to have Afriyie’s mum come into our class to share what she does in her job as a pharmacist. She explained to us that she helps people get the right medicine they need to feel better and teaches people how to use or take medicine correctly. She showed us what a weekly medicine box looks like with all the days of the week and different times of the day people might need to take their medicine. She talked to us about medicine safety and how important it is not to touch medicine or tablets and if we find any to always tell an adult. We even got to handle some equipment that Afriyie’s mum uses to give medicine to people and to check their pulse and blood pressure. Ms Keeshan

RECEPTION Reception have been enjoying our activities relating to "Commotion in the Ocean" this week. We have

seen some very creative ideas from the children. They have been acting out pirates stealing treasure,

they have been writing clues about which sea creature they are and today the children made a ship

out of junk modelling. Ms Sheehan

NURSERY This week in Nursery, we have started a new topic all about water. We read the story, ‘The Rainbow

Fish’ and had lots of fun playing in our submarine, reading lots of underwater stories and creating

different underwater art. Ms Furey

YEAR 4 We have been exploring different characters in our class book called 'Varjak Paw' and looked at how they

evolve through the story. This week we wrote our own descriptions of a dog in the story based on our first

impressions and then read them aloud to the class. What do you think - would you pet him?

Ms McMillan Hind

YEAR 2

YEAR 3 We have been reading the ‘The Lost Happy Endings’. In the story an owl’s hoot gives the sign that

something is not right. We spent the week learning all about different owls. We researched taking notes,

turned those sentences into notes and then wrote a non-chronological report. With a drawing, we made a

poster all about our owl. Some of us learnt about Barn Owls, Tawny Owls, Little Owls or Long eared Owls.

Ms Lewin

This week Year 2 were able to go on our first real school trip! We walked to King's Place to see a

performance of 'Agatha the Pirate' by the Aurora Orchestra. The performance included lots of songs

composed by Bela Bartok as well as some fantastic acting from Jessie. The children absolutely loved

going on a class trip and afterward we had lunch in St Pancras Gardens and a play in the Plot 10

playground. It was so lovely to get out of the classroom and take the kids somewhere new! Mr Bridgford

YEAR 5 In our Science lessons, we are learning about the different life cycles of plants and animals. The class have

learnt about the differences for insects, amphibians, reptiles and mammals.

Recently, we looked at plants in more detail and spent time looking at plants at their different stages

around the school.

In the quiet area we found agapanthus that were yet to flower, onions that were beginning to flower and

foxgloves that were covered in flowers and were being pollinated by bees. We discussed the importance of

this for plants for them to make seeds and the need for them to reproduce.

We also saw some plants that had fruit such as strawberries and looked at the seeds of other plants

including dandelions. It was interesting to see so many different stages of different plants’ life cycles

around our school! Mr Dunning

YEAR 6 This week Year 6 have been busy rehearsing for their End of Year

Production. They only started rehearsing last week, and we have been

very impressed at how quickly children have learned their lines, the

songs and the choreography. It is wonderful to see them all working

with such energy, focus and commitment. Without giving too much

away, this year’s production features some well know characters, some

of whom are up to no good! Next week we will be thinking about

props, costumes and scenery. Details of the day and time of the

performance to parents will be sent out shortly – watch this space! In

the meantime, please make sure your children learn their lines this

weekend, as we will be rehearsing without scripts next week.
