Promise Students Cover Liberty Medal Ceremony

Camden’s Promise fifth graders Wa’suan Blake and Jhacktzy Vargas got to spend the day in the life of a reporter when they traveled to the National Constitution Center with Ms. Ciervo and Ms. Hoagland for the Liberty Medal Ceremony on Nov. 21. The 2014 Liberty Medal Ceremony honored equality activist Mala-la Yousafzai for her courage as an advocate for women’s education. Grand Re-Opening for PAC Most students are aware that on Oct. 26, gallons of water poured into the PAC building, due to a malfunction in the fire suppression system. The malfunction in the system was caused by “outside the building interference” with the fire suppression system through a man hole cover on the network’s property on Lois Ave. The source of this interference is unknown and is currently being investigated. The water, which is believed to have poured in through the system’s lower pipes onto the PAC floors, flooded the building all day Sunday into Monday morning. While disaster recovery specialists, AllRisk, were called in to evaluate the damage and remediate all areas affected by the water. All carpets have been removed from the library. Book

shelves in the library were also diposed and replaced. In addition, the lower drywall in all the offices

has been removed and replaced with new sheetrock. At this time, the only operational parts of the PAC include the stage, kitchen and gym.

To accommodate displaced classes, two computer labs, along with four other classrooms, have been temporarily established in Pride. All after school programming will take place as regularly scheduled during this time. Full and complete remediation of the PAC will continue until Thanksgiving. We have reserved January 3rd as our tentative date for the grand re-opening of the PAC. We greatly appreciate the support and patience from our parents during this time.

Since parents are a child’s first and primary educators, we at Camden Academy believe that our parents are a valuable part of a child’s education. We continually strive to create a partnership with our parents. For this reason we are seeking to establish a Parent Advisory Committee. Camden Academy Charter High School is looking forward to your participation in the committee. The goal is to create a forum where parents can come together and share ideas. The Parent Advisory Committee will also work together with our teachers and administrators in creating the best educational experience for their children. Members are encouraged to take an active role promoting and assisting with our schools procedures, programs, activities, special events, and communications. This partnership will ensure that our students’ needs and best interest are being met. Please contact Mrs. McComb for more information at (856) 365-1000, extension 2.

Wanted: CACHS Parents

While the application and enrollment process can be paperwork intensive, at times, the integration of a student application and enrollment portal is revamping the process. Thanks to new application and enrollment management software powered by SchoolAdmin, parents now have the option of completing student enrollment completely online. Instead of physically handing in forms and records, parents will now be able to upload required documents, such as transcripts and immunization records directly online. Without a single phone call or email, parents can track the status of their student’s enrollment and view both the forms that have been uploaded and the forms that are still required. The student application and enrollment portal is available through our network website, by clicking the “Online Application/ Enrollment” tab under the “Admissions” dropdown. For additional information or questions, please contact student enrollment coordinator Marta Cruz at (856) 365 -1000, ext. 108 or via email at [email protected].

Welcome (Bienvenido) to another year at the KATZ-Dalsey Academy

Charter School. Most of our families are aware and noticing the name change to honor both of our founders. This name change was necessary to renew and remind us all of their dedication to the children of Camden and of their passion for education. Therefore, it is our mission to instill our seven

core virtues, honesty, respect, responsibility, compassion, self-discipline, perseverance, and giving, to promote excellence in living, as well as in learning. In addition, we are looking forward to our Pride & KATZ-Dalsey Carnival on Saturday, Sept. 20 and joining all of our elementary school campus families for festivities, fellowship and, most of all, fun! This will be our kick off for the school year, so

Hello everyone,Welcome back to Camden’s Charter School Network. With our students

now settling into a new school year, we are excited to share an important milestone this year with our network families. As you all know, Camden’s Charter School Network is home to the second oldest charter in the City of Camden, Camden’s Promise Charter School. Our network is also the biggest charter school network in the city. Yet, that is not what makes our network so successful. What makes our network truly remarkable is that 2015 will mark the 10 year anniversary of our first graduating class. To truly put this in perspective,

AMessagefromOurSuperintendent...I must share some statistics with you. Last year, 94 percent of our graduates were accepted to a college or university, a figure that has remained constant over the years. Currently, our 4-year graduation rate is at 98 percent, with our 5-year rate at 100 percent. With approximately 70-80 seniors per graduating class since 2005, Camden’s Charter School Network has placed approximately 700 students in post-secondary schools since 2005. Seven hundred students, in a city where 41 percent of children live in poverty with their families; 700 stu-dents in a city where public schools have only a 53 percent graduation rate; and in a city ranked most dangerous in the country three times within the past 10 years, close to 700 students went on to college.

For most of our students, going to college is just the beginning. We have so many alumni who have gone on to accomplish great things, not only nationwide, but also across the globe. Not to mention, a number of alumni who have returned to Camden’s Charter School Network to “pay it forward”, becoming teachers themselves. We are sincerely grateful that you, and parents like you, have given us this opportunity to educate your children, and share in your efforts to pave the way for a brighter future for Camden’s youth.

Thank you,

Dr. Joseph Conway
