fun and education through Day Camp and our Weekend Adventure 24hr camps while assisting units with

retention and encouraging boys to continue onto the Cub Scout Resident Camp experiences.

Campers will travel the world and participate in activities where they will learn more about other countries and

cultures in our world.

Weekend Adventure

Over the course of 24 hours’ campers and their parents will participate in activities which allow them to

experience life in other cultures. Activities will include shooting sports, nature hikes, sports, outdoor ethics and

more with the day culminating in the ultimate campfire program.

2018 Camp Card Sale Information

The 2018 Camp Card Sale is support to help insure that camp can be a part of this year’s Scouting experience

for them. Below is a brief explanation of how the camp card sale works and links to order them. Attached is complete information.

Camp Card Sale Details:

• Sale Timeline: February 10 – May 10, 2018

• Camp Cards are 100% returnable to your May roundtable or to your local Field Service Council by May 11,

2018

Camp Cards sell for $5.00 each

• $2.50 per each card sold goes to unit sending Scouts to camp and/or other adventurers

• $ 0.70 per card sold goes to produce the card and discount offers

• $ 1.80 per card sold goes to support Michigan Crossroads Council Scouting

MCC Campership Program 2018 To be eligible, the following guidelines must be met by the youth applicant:

o Registered within the Michigan Crossroads Council and in good standing for at least 30 days

prior to completing an application.

o Youth attending a Michigan Crossroads Council operated Summer Camp (Day Camp, Cub Scout

Resident Camp, Webelos Resident Camp, or Boy Scout Resident Camp)

o Youth attending an Official Field Service Council, District, Area or National Training

Conference. I.E. NYLT (National Youth Leader Training)

o Recommended by his/her Unit Leader (Committee Chair, Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, or Advisor)

and Parent/Guardian. When a Unit Leader enters the information in to the Michigan Crossroads

Council website it is their responsibility to ensure all parties are in agreement with the

information provided.

We urge your assistance in applying for camperships for youth who could not attend camp without

financial assistance.

In keeping with the philosophy of “pay your own way”, each youth should pay a portion of the fee.

Camperships are awarded based primarily on need. The more information the campership committee has about

the Scout’s particular need, the better. The Field Service Council also reserves the right to consider the unit’s

participation in Council administered product sales as demonstrating a concerted effort to raise these funds. The

family and unit should also contribute to the cost of the camp experience. Camperships awarded will not

exceed 50% of the event fee.

Applying for campership aid must be done by APRIL 1st to allow time for review and response. If approved,

the campership amount will be sent to the camp or to the National Conference when registration of the

individual is confirmed. Fees will be credited as camp payment in the Scout’s name within the Michigan

Crossroads Council Summer Camp Reservations portion of its website. The campership is to a specific

individual and is not transferable to other youth.

1. Apply separately for each Scout needing assistance. All information requested on is needed when

applying.

2. Assistance will be considered based on need, the youth’s unit’s support of the mission of the Michigan

Crossroads Council including participation in the Friends of Scouting Campaign and Popcorn Sale.

3. All requests must be submitted by APRIL 1st. All campership applications submitted on time will

be considered based on the financial need of the Scout in relation to the other applications received

and available funds. Any campership applications received after April 1, 2018 will only be

considered if there are funds remaining.

4. Your request will be reviewed by committee within the Field Service Council the applicant is registered

in. Campership awards and information is confidential and will not be shared outside of

the campership committee.

5. After review notification will be done by the Field Service Council to the Campership Recipient’s

family and Unit Leadership including the assistance decision.

6. Assistance funds will be credited to each Scout when they attend the event they applied for. Funds are

only usable by the individual whom the assistance was granted.

7. Completeness of the information when applying will help determine campership allocations.

8. Scouts are only eligible to receive one form of financial assistance.

Thrifty: A Scout works to pay his own way and help others. He saves for the future. He protects and

conserves natural resources. He carefully uses time and property.

Volunteer Staff

All of our staff that deliver our programs at camp are volunteers. They are registered Scouters. They provide a

great program because they believe in Scouting and the importance of putting the Outing in Scouting. They are

paid in smiles and laughs. Please be considerate and understanding when working with them. The staff always

appreciate an extra hand or a thank you from you and your Scouts. Scouting is a volunteer-led organization that

is professionally guided. Together the volunteer staff, the adult/den walkers, and Scouts can make the Cub

Scout camping experience the best that it can be in the Great Lakes Field Service Council.

Day/Twilight Camp Introduction

Great Lakes Field Service Council operates day camps throughout Macomb, Oakland and Wayne County.

Packs may choose whichever day camp location is convenient for their schedules and scouts. While packs are

encouraged to attend day camp as a pack, individual scouts may register even if their pack is not attending, only

if they are accompanied by an adult. Remember, attendance at day camp counts as an activity toward earning

the National Summertime Pack Award. Outdoor activities, such as day camp, are also a requirement to earn the

Journey to Excellence. Most importantly camp provides an opportunity to put OUTING back in Scouting and

assists in fulfilling the promises made when your son or daughter joined scouting. This guide is designed to

help packs and campers prepare for camp. Please review the contents of this guide and become familiar with

the policies and procedures. We’re looking forward to seeing you at camp!

All registration must be completed at https://scoutingevent.com/272-2018GLCubCamping. Packs are

encouraged to register for day camp as a Pack to better coordinate pack leadership and ease in

assigning dens. A Sign Me Up form is available online at the registration link above and in the back of this

packet to assist pack coordinators collect the information needed to complete the registration for each Scout.

There is still an option to register a scout individually, too. All registrations are required to have an adult sign

up.

Required Paperwork for Camp: Medical Forms

Medical forms Part A & B are required for all people in camp which includes all campers, siblings, adults and

staff. Medical forms can be found online at http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-

001_AB.pdf. A form must be on file at the camp registration area with the Health Officer for the individual to

participate in camp.

Den Assignments at Camp

Campers will be assigned to Dens based on their Pack to allow the Den Walkers (Adults) to stay with their

scouts. Depending on the size of your Pack you may have other scouts from other Packs in your Day Camp

Den. We do this to ensure that the Den is full to maximize participation and to ensure that the Den has adequate

adult leadership.

Pack Day Camp Leadership (Den Walkers)

Every Pack is required to provide its own day camp leadership while at camp. One leader is required for every

5 youth in camp (youth count includes scouts and siblings registered in the sibling program) with a minimum of

2 leaders. (Example: 11 youth require 3 leaders). New Tiger Cubs (youth that have just completed

kindergarten) are required to have a parent or guardian in attendance, a 1 adult to 1 scout ratio.

Day Camp is not a “Drop-Off” camp; we want you to be involved in your Scouts life

The Den Walkers are responsible for escorting the den throughout the day from activity station to activity

station. They are to encourage active participation in the programs and activities, assisting station leaders as

necessary. Den walkers are asked to promote Cub Spirit by helping the den create its own den yell and flag.

Songs and yells build enthusiasm and promote togetherness. They can be used while traveling from one session

to another. Den walkers are also in charge of ensuring camper safety using the buddy system and by

maintaining order in the den. In the event of an injury or illness, the den walker is to promptly report the

incident to the camp headquarters bringing injured campers to the health officer. Discipline issues are to be

reported to the camp director. Each Den will be provided with a Den Tote Bag that will be equipped with

supplies to assist you.

Single Scout Program

However, if Pack/Den are unable to attend camp and the Parent/Guardian are unable to attend with the Scout,

we will provide your Scout with a trained Den Leader for an additional cost of $50. To take advantage of this

option your Scout must be signed up for this option by the Early Bird deadline; this will allow us to make

arrangements for the trained Den Leader to be on site. This program is limited to 16 Scouts per camp.

Adult/Parent/Leader Registration

Each registration requires 1 adult to sign up, you will not be able to complete the registration unless an adult it

committed to attending for the duration of camp, you are encouraged to add more adults to your registration.

When registering, you will need to indicate which day(s) the adult will be at camp (Day 1, 2, and/or Day 3).

Super Den Walkers If you plan to be at Day Camp for all 3 days, you will be noted as a Super Den Walker. The Super Den Walker will aid in

helping with Check Out of your den on all 3 Days and check in of your Den on Days 2 & 3.

Siblings in Camp

Siblings are welcome to attend camp with parents that are serving either as Camp Staff* or Day Camp

Leadership (Den Walkers) under the following criteria:

• Tag-A-Long: Ages 3-5 can attend with a parent, only if it doesn’t interfere with den walker duties.

Camp staff members would not be able to have youth of this age with them.

• Sibling Program: Ages 6-11 (entering 1st grade through entering 5th grade) may participate in the Sibling

Program if their parent or guardian is onsite as camp staff or den walkers. Siblings will be assigned to

dens accordingly.

• Ages 12 and older – Check with the Camp Director. Youth ages 12 and older may be able to serve as Jr.

Camp Staff.

*Camp Staff is defined as those adults volunteering during a day camp and where they are serving as leaders of

program areas as assigned by the Day Camp Director.

Note: For youth participating in the sibling or tag-a-long programs: Accident and sickness insurance must be

provided by the parents; they are not covered under BSA insurance.

Safe Transportation TO & FROM Camp

When transporting Scouts to camp, make sure the rules published in the Guide to Safe Scouting are followed.

(An Online version can be found at www.scouting.org.)

Most packs carpool to transport Scouts to camp. It is imperative that each vehicle is safe, carries insurance

(State requirements) and is operated safely. Be sure anyone taking your child in and out of camp is listed in the

Authorized Person section of the registration

What to expect at Day Camp?

Daily Day Camp Schedule

Daytime Schedule:

8:30 am Arrive & Check-in (8am on Day 1)

9:00 am Opening Ceremony

3:00 pm Closing Ceremony & Dismissal

Twilight Schedule:

2:30 pm Arrive & Check-nn (2pm on Day 1)

Schedules for station rotations will be provided daily to den walkers. Campers will spend 35-45 minutes at

each station before moving to the next. Station activities including themed activities and experiments, shooting

sports, sports and much more. The stations consist of educational hands on activities.

What to Bring

Please make sure all items are marked with the Scout’s name and pack number for easy identification.

• Day pack to hold gear (Youth will be provided with a draw string bag)

• Lunch with name on container (avoid using mayo or other perishables in packed lunches)

• Rain gear (dress for the weather)

• Sunscreen and non-aerosol bug repellant (staff is not allowed to apply sunscreen or bug repellant to

Scouts)

• Properly labeled medications (if needed)

• Closed toe shoes must be worn by all youth and adults (no sandals)

• Camp Agawam Sessions: Swimsuit, towel, and bag for wet clothes (adults may bring their suits also)

Check In

Check in will begin 1 hour before camps starts (8am or 2pm for Twilight) prior to the scheduled opening flag

ceremony. Please go directly to the camp headquarters with your medical forms. You will be given your camp

supplies (t-shirt, water bottle, string bag, wristband) and your Den Assignment. Please allow ample time for

this on the first day to ensure a smooth start to the day. Walk in registration is allowed but we highly encourage

you to register in advance to allow for our team to prepare for your arrival.

Identification

It helps the staff to identify which children & adults are part of our camp session.

➢ Camp T-Shirts

o Camp t-shirts will be issued on the first day of camp and are to be worn by youth and tag-a-long

siblings while in camp each day. Adults may purchase t-shirts for $10 when registering online.

➢ Wristbands

o Each youth and adult at camp will be required to wear the provided plastic band for the duration

of camp.

Check Out

At the end of the day everyone will gather at the flags for announcements and the closing ceremony. After the

closing ceremony, Super Den Walkers will check campers out to drivers that were submitted during the online

registration. Drivers will be asked to present their driver’s licenses as verification to the Super Den Walker.

The Super Den Walker will help the Day Camp Staff to ensure every scout leaves with the proper

parent/guardian. Note: This is change in procedure from previous years

Late Check In – Early Check Out

It is understood there are situations where someone may need to arrive late or leave early. Anyone arriving after

the opening ceremony or leaving before the scheduled end of camp must check in/out at camp headquarters. For

safety reasons, we need to know who is in camp. At the end of the day if a camper has not checked out of

camp, missing camper procedures will go into effect until the camper can be located. Please understand these

policies are in place for the safety of your children.

Absent Campers

If a camper is going to be absent on a day they are scheduled to be at camp, we ask that the pack coordinator or

a den walker from the pack be notified so he/she can notify the camp staff at check in. After the morning

check-in, any campers not checked-in will be contacted unless the camp has been notified the camper is absent

for the day.

Visitors in Camp

All adults and campers are required to sign in at the camp headquarter and will receive a wristband. Anyone

without a wristband will be directed to camp headquarters station to be properly checked in by camp staff. This

includes any siblings that are in camp without a wristband.

Weather

The Day Camp program will run rain or shine so please dress accordingly. If the rain becomes too heavy or if

there are thunderstorms, everyone will move to shelter and run a modified program until the weather clears.

Once weather is clear normal program will resume. Camp Directors will keep a close eye on weather

conditions if hazardous weather is forecasted. In the event camp is cancelled, emails will be sent to pack

contacts, a Remind text message sent out and notifications posted to the Great Lakes FSC Facebook page.

Remember campers will be outside and the temperatures can get hot. Campers will be issued a water bottle on

the first day and water will be available at every station for campers to drink. It would be a good idea to make

sure campers drink plenty of water the day before camp and at night when they get home. Dehydrated campers

don’t have as much fun at camp as hydrated ones. Adults should also be reminded to stay well hydrated.

Weekend Adventure Overview Are you new to scouting or maybe just ready for 24 hours away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life?

Weekend Adventures are a 24-Hour camping experience for a Cub Scout, siblings and a parent or guardian. It is a great

way to introduce a new Cub Scout to the camping experience or take the experience Cub Scout on another great

adventure.

The Early bird cost per pair (Parent & Pal) is $75 if registered 2 weeks prior ($85 after) which covers all activities and

This is a family camp; all youth that are elementary school age are welcome to attend with their parent/guardian.

What to expect at Weekend Adventure?

Tent site assignments and schedules will be provided at check in. Weekend Adventure weekends are designed

to be an introductory camping experience for families. Activities will center around the theme for the year and

include elements of Leave No Trace and Outdoor Ethics.

What to Bring

Please make sure all items are marked with the Scout’s name and pack number for easy identification.

• Tent

• Sleeping bag, pillow and ground mat

• Personal clothing

• Toiletries

• Non-aerosol bug spray and sunscreen

• Rain gear

• Water bottle

• Closed toe shoes must be worn by all youth and adults (no sandals)

Camp T-Shirts

Camp t-shirts will be issued at check in. Additional t-shirts can be purchased for $10 when registering online.

Check In & Check Out

Check in with registration staff upon arrival to camp. Medical forms A&B are required for all scouts and

parents and should be turned in at check in. Once in camp, notify the registration staff or camp director if there

is a need to leave. Checkout will be after the closing ceremony on Sunday.

Visitors in Camp

All adults and campers are required to sign in at the camp headquarter and will receive a wristband. Anyone

without a wristband will be directed to camp headquarters station to be properly checked in by camp staff. This

includes any siblings that are in camp without a wristband.

Weather

The Weekend Adventure program will run rain or shine so please dress accordingly. If the rain becomes too

heavy or if there are thunderstorms, everyone will move to shelter and camp will run a modified program until

the weather clears. Once weather is clear normal program will resume. Camp Directors will keep a close eye

on weather conditions if hazardous weather is forecasted. In the event camp is cancelled, an email and text

message alert will be sent to the contacts on the registration, a Remind text message sent out and notifications

posted to the Great Lakes FSC Facebook page.

Remember campers will be outside and the temperatures can get hot. It would be a good idea to make sure

campers drink plenty of water the day before camp and while at camp. Dehydrated campers don’t have as much

fun at camp as hydrated ones. Adults should also be reminded to stay well hydrated.
