Week 7! This Term is flying past.
The last three weeks of a Term is
always busy as lots of assessments
need to be finalised and attendance
is crucial. Let’s (teachers and
parents) encourage our students to
attend every day to complete the
final assessment tasks due. As I
always say: “Attendance leads to
Success”.
Next week our Year 10 students are
out doing work experience with
various employers around town. Some in Health, Motor Mechan-
ic, Building, Child Care, Learning Support, Kindy, Vet Nursing etc.
I would like to thank all the employers in advance for taking in
our Crossways’ students. This is a great opportunity for students
to work in employment environments of their choice which will
assist them in subject selection next year which will in turn lead
them into the career pathways they wish to pursue.
Our students will be participating in the Tcharkulda Rock run
next week. The team will consist of students from year 4 – 9.
Students will be participating on Wednesday and we wish them
all the best. Mr. Rom Puccio and Ms. Amy Norsworthy will be
accompanying the team on the day.

CROSSWAYS LUTHERAN SCHOOL EARLY LEARNING
CENTRE - OPENING JANUARY 2019 !
PARENT / CAREGIVER REMINDER
Last day of Term 2 for students is
Friday 29th June (week 9)
Our Early Learning Centre is on schedule and we hope to start
the refurbishing process during week 10. This promises to be a
great facility for our ELC students in 2019. We have placed the
ELC enrolment documentation on our website to download for
your convenience. We have limited places available in our ELC
and I would encourage potential parents to enroll their children
as soon as possible.
Enrolments for 2019 - RECEPTION STUDENTS NOW OPEN. We
will be running a Transition Program during Term 3 and 4 as
well as Parent Information Evenings for parents of potential
Reception students starting in Jan 2019. I am encouraging all
parents in the Ceduna Community to consider enrolling your
children at Crossways Lutheran School as we believe in quality
teaching and learning by a team of highly qualified and skilled
teachers. We also have Learning Support Officers in every class
who are trained to run tutoring programs at different levels to
improve the Numeracy and Literacy skills of our students.
Something from the HEART: A Reason to Sing – Amy Peterson
Singing changes the brain! Some studies show that when we sing, our bodies release hormones that relieve anxiety and stress. Other re-search indicates that when a group of people sings together, their heartbeats actually synchronize with each other. The apostle Paul’s writing encourages the church to speak to one an-other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (Eph. 5:19). And the Bible repeats, “Sing praise” more than fifty times. In 2 Chronicles 20, we read a story of God’s people demonstrating their trust in God by singing as they marched into battle. Enemies were heading toward the people of Judah. Alarmed, King Jehoshaphat called everyone together. He led the community in intense prayer. They did-n’t eat or drink, but only prayed, “We don’t know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (v. 12). The next day, they set out. They weren’t led by their fiercest warriors, but by their choir. They believed God’s promise that they would be delivered without having to fight at all (v. 17). While they sang and walked toward the conflict, their enemies fought each other! By the time God’s people reached the battlefield, the fighting had ended. God saved His people as they marched by faith toward the unknown, singing His praises. God encourages us to praise Him for good reasons. Whether or not we are marching into battle, praising God has power to change our thoughts, our hearts, and our lives. We only have ONE life, let’s treasure it. I know that all of us have our
own battles in life at times but God has the power to carry us through.
Let us sing and praise Him through these difficult times and we will
always be victorious.
Blessings, Francois Pienaar, Principal

Last week we were lucky enough to have touring acoustic duo
Brooke McClymont and Adam Eckersley, along with their daugh-
ter Tigi, Manager Dan, and Adams parents, visit our school and
spend some time with the middle school music students. Brooke
and Adam explained a little about each of their solo and com-
bined music careers and what life is like as a professional musi-
cian. We were then treated to a life performance of their song
called ‘Glad’ off of their most recent album. Before they left our
upper school singing group performed a song for them that we
have been working on called ‘Free to Dance’ which we will also
perform at chapel soon. We were all both awed and inspired by
Brooke and Adam and sincerely appreciate the time they took
out of their very short stay in Ceduna to encourage and perform
for our students. We wish them all of God’s blessings and a safe
and successful tour.

Last week I attended a conference at Encounter Lutheran School, Victor Habor. The conference was attended by nu-merous Primary leaders and the content for the day centred on Vocational Practices and Capabilities, Excellence in Out-comes and Our foundation and Culture. During the day we discussed in groups and as a whole, ‘Leadership and Wellbeing, Innovation in Education as well as Spiritual Development’. All the discussions and insights were able to be related back to our school, our staff and students. The conference provid-ed me with valuable knowledge on how to be a better leader and engage and grow other staff and students to develop leadership skills themselves. This week I will be away at camp with Miss. Bahr’s Class at Streaky Bay. Just a reminder again to students, the end of Term 2 is fast approaching so make sure your work is complete and that your assignments are in by the due dates.

…………………………………………….. On Wednesday the 6th of June, the Reception class went on an
excursion to visit some local farms. Our first stop was at Warren
Beatie’s place, where we fed and were able to pat Humphrey the
camel. We also had a walk around his farm and heard about
what it is like to live on a farm and some of the things farmers
need to do. After that, we headed to Carmen Lambeff’s, and here
we saw some baby lambs that needed feeding. We took turns
feeding them their bottles. We also saw some tractors, sheds and
finally met Bella, the cheeky goat. We had a fantastic time and
hopefully get time to return in the future! Thanks for having us
Warren and Carmen!

On Friday the 8th of June Fiona McAuliffe visited our school. Fiona’s role is Head of Senior School at Concordia College in Adelaide and she has been helping some of our students get to Adelaide and visit their school. Jaziah Miller and Tyson Edwards were selected for this trip, which occurred in week 5. The boys stayed with a family who’s children attend Concordia and had a really great time. Concordia is another Lutheran School and Fiona informed me they offer 2 fully paid scholarships, each year, for year 10 indigenous students who apply. If you would like to know more about this please arrange a time to meet me. The year 9/10 girls enjoyed spending time getting to know Fiona and learn a bit more about the scholarships, Fiona also spent time with us at Woodwork and in a Maths lesson.
