The event was part of the Stepney Partnership to encourage the children to engage in physical activity. The children completed many activities such as fencing, boccia and target practise. Ehsan in Year 4 said “It was super duper fun! We did lots of activities and then we had snacks like breadsticks, strawberries and bananas. I’m definitely doing it next time!” Halley will be hosting the next Paralympic event in January so we look forward to welcoming everyone then. TOPIC TALK Last week, children from Nursery and Reception performed a wonderful assembly about Nursery Rhymes. They sang 10 Green Bottles, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Incy Wincy Spider. This half term they are learning about Celebrations. So far the children have learnt about Shichi Go San which is a Japanese festival and Loy Kathong which is a Thai Buddhist festival along with Diwali and Fireworks night. Quiet Time It is always very fun and interesting to learn about how people of different religions celebrate. We need to remember to be respectful about our diverse community. FRIENDS OF THE WEEK Below is a photo of our friends in KS2. They have been playing exciting games together. These games include ‘Stuck in the Mud’ and ‘It’. They are very kind and considerate towards each other and are always willing to add new people to their games. If you would like to join in, all you have to do is ask! Our Halley motto is ‘Including all learners and achieving great things’. This doesn't only have to be in the classroom. Next time you are in the playground why don't you see who you could include in your game. You might just make their day! EVERYBODY NEEDS GOOD FRIENDS

CHILDREN FROM HALLEY AT THE BBC?!

To celebrate the successful completion of Newspaper club, Samina and Sivan took some children to visit the BBC headquarters. The children had the opportunity to meet the senior producers of education, participated in a radio drama and visited many TV sets including The One Show and the BBC News. Anisa said “I enjoyed speaking on the

radio as part of the Halloween Tea Party”. “I didn't know that all the BBC sets were in one building. I really enjoyed my day” said Nadia. We hope the visit has inspired them to keep writing and reporting.

JIGSAW CELEBRATION Last week we were celebrating people in our school who know how to help if someone is being bullied. Well done to:

ROAD SAFETY WEEK This week is Road Safety week. This is how to cross the road

safely.

1. THINK FIRST.

2. PLAN. Find the safest place to cross then stop.

3. STOP. Stand on the pavement little way back from the edge.

4. WATCH AND LISTEN. Look for traffic in all di-rections and listen.

5. WAIT UNTIL IT'S SAFE. Wait patiently and let the traffic pass.

6. WATCH AND LISTEN. When it's safe, walk directly across the road.

That's Interesting!

Advent Sunday Did you know: Advent Sunday 2015 is on November 29th. Just as Lent acts as preparation for the upcoming Easter, Advent Sunday marks an important beginning of a period that triggers the festive mood for Christmas. The word advent is derived from the Latin language. It

means the coming. This season has been used by people to increase their spirituality. It can combine both anticipation and cheer.

Advent Sunday is the first of the four Sundays before the 25th December. During the season of Advent, Christians across the world prepare for the celebration of the arrival of the Lord into the world through the birth of his Son Jesus Christ.
