Connecting Controler If the controller is not already wired to the SelfSensing drives you will want to run communication wire between them. The wire location for the controller is shown below.

Wiring to the other SelfSensing pumps. Wire will need to be supplied by installer for this operation. For the SelfSensing pumps to operate in parallel they will need to be daisy chained together.

• All wiring is to be 20AWG copper, stranded twisted pair• Installer is to run shielded wire twisted pair for communication at positions (+)68 & (-)69• Installer will need to run wire from positions 12(24V DC) & 20(Common) so that if one

drive should be powered off then the MPC will stay active for the other drives stillpowered on.

• Illustration of wiring is displayed on the next page.

1. The location of the communication wire from Drive1 at positions (+)68 & (-)69.

2. The location to the 24VDC power to the controllerfrom drive 1 positions 12(24V DC) & 20(Common).

3. The location of the communication wire to theBuilding Management System (BACnet or Modbus).

4. The location on the controller for the Run/Stopcommand for all pumps will require a jumper at ID1& GRD.

Button Discription

The escape button is set as a global escape. This will quit the current function and bring you back to the main screen from any of the menus.

Start-up/Initialization

Turn each pump to “Auto On” then connect power to the Multi-pump control. Upon start-up the system will go through an initialization procedure. See Startup/Installation procedure for instructions on setting up the control. The initialization procedure will include the following steps:

2

Page 7: Parallel SelfSensing Modulating Pump ControllerParallel SelfSensing 302-380 Modulating Pump Controller SUPERSEDES: New EFFECTIVE: November 15, 2016 Plant ID: 001-0000. ... use of pump

1. Finding the drives connected via the Modbus communication channel. These drive must behave address 1-4 with no drive having the same address. The drive the control finds will beinitialized to “Online” if no drive is present it will be left blank. The third state “Offline” is fordrive that are connected but not to be used.

2. Setting each drive to the correct parameters for control.3. Starting each drive/pump to reach its maximum speed, this checks the drive for functionality.

If changes need to be made to system setting, for example maximum speed, then leave the Modbus connections unconnected. The system will start-up with no errors then changes can be made.

Pump number is set by address. With the default settings Pump 1 is at address 1, Pump 2 is at address 2. The lead pump will be the one with the lowest address.

When the initialization procedure is done the “Initializing” will change to “Offline”.

If during initialization or run time the ramp up and ramp down times of the drive are too slow or too fast this should be changed to the individual drives. This is done under 3-80 Jog Ramp Time. The control initializes this to 20.00 seconds. Changing this value may result in having an effect on the PID, proceed with caution.

System Display To Display the system variable scroll down to the selected system using the up/down buttons ,

line below pump 4, and press the enter button . The following screen will appear.

Each pump can have one of three different states:

1. Running – if pump is Online and running.2. Stopped – if pump is Online but not running.3. Blank – if no pump is present.

The Flow, Head and Power will be continuously updated from information read from the drives. The total flow is the sum of each pumps individual flow. The total head is the average head of all pumps running. The power is the sum of all the power being used.

3. Press the Enter button to exit.

The range will be from .01% to 100%, with .01% being the slowest and 100% being the fastest.

Minimum pump On/Off time The minimum pump on/off time is the minimum amount of time that after a pump is switched on or off the controller will not do any further pump switching. However, pump speeds will still be adjusted based on demand. This time is for settling time for the system.

To access the minimum on/off time setting use the Up/Down buttons to scroll to “Min On/Off

Time” in the Advanced Settings menu then press the Enter button .

To change the setting:

1. Use the Up/Down buttons to scroll to the desired time in seconds. 2. Press the Program button to set the desired time.

3. Press the Enter button to exit.

Setpoint Delta The setpoint delta setting allows the user to select how close to the setpoint the system needs to be. The Delta is a percentage of the actual setpoint. For example if the system is setup for constant flow with a setpoint delta of 1% and the setpoint is 500 GPM. The controller will try and hold the system to within +/- 5 GPM.

Caution should be used when making this small as noise in the system will cause the controller to speed up and slow down unnecessarily. A wider setpoint delta would have no decrease in performance to the system but allow the motors to run smoother.

Each system function will have its own delta.

Alarms/Errors There are two alarms that will require user intervention. The first is a Modbus alarm, this is usually do to a break in the Modbus connection. The second is a no flow condition from a pump that is running. For the Modbus alarm do a quick check of connectivity between the control and the Pump. If a quick fix can be made and the system is functional restore connectivity, the alarm will reset when connectivity is reestablished and the system will continue to function as normal. If not then follow the following steps, these steps are required for the no flow alarm:

1. Bring the pump “offline” (see page 5). 2. Change the number of pumps (see page 21).

32

3. Fix the problem. 4. Bring the pump back “online”. 5. Change the number of pumps.

The system will then function as normal. If there are any difficulties call Taco Comfort Solutions Technical Services.

Run Control The user is able to control if the system is running or not by the state of a relay between Pins ID1 and GND on J8 and the state of the “system resume” function. If the Relay is closed the Unit will function in whatever mode the user select. As soon as this relay is opened the system will go “offline” shutting down all the pumps. The state of the control when the relay is closed again depends the selection of the system resume menu selection.

Startup/Installation Instructions and Checklist Instructions to start up a new system. If the system is already running and flow cannot be interrupted call Taco Comfort Solutions technical services for instructions.
