Who needs a golden statue when you can say you won Oscar’s red carpet? The right dress can dazzle fans and fashion critics—turning any actress into a

fashionista—and it all starts with the perfect color.Color trends during awards season don’t happen by

chance. The hues you see on the stars are inspired by colors spotted on the runways in Paris and Milan the year before, says celebrity stylist Elizabeth Stewart.

Champagne reigned supreme in 2014, ladies shined in metallics in 2013, coral was a craze in 2012, Hollywood saw red in 2011 and the stars were feeling blue in 2010.

So which color will you be seeing most on Oscar night? White. “Throw out the idea that it can’t be worn after Labor Day. Winter white is here to stay!” says Stewart, whose clients include Viola Davis, Cate Blanchett and Julia Roberts. Davis already rocked this trend at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last month, dazzling in an optic-white Max Mara gown.

“We’ll also see florals, inspired by the Paris couture shows,” adds Stewart. “The fashion world is exploring lots of prints and bold color combinations. These trends will eventually make it to the red carpet on the more daring actresses.”

In the meantime, this year’s “it” color will be making its mark—from the runways to the red carpet to your own closet. So don’t be afraid to trade in your little black dress for a chic white outfit. You’ll be in good company.

the heart and joints and going down can be even more

dangerous. Many of them are forced to spend the day in

their bedroom or their night on the couch. Either way,

half of their home is off limits.

the stairs or simply need a little extra help getting up

and down, Easy Climber® gives you access to your entire

home again... safely and affordably. It’s made by a

In our era of the modern-day multiplex, “the

movies” are pretty much a something-for-

everyone smorgasbord, and films about real

people, real events and real places are a

Hollywood staple. But around this time of

year—awards season—those big, meaty dramas

noticeably move to the top of the menu. In fact,

as Hollywood heads down to the wire for a star-

studded, blowout finish with the 87th annual

Academy Awards tonight on ABC, several “real-

life” dramas are serious contenders

for the evening’s top prizes.

The Imitation Game, the story of British mathe-

matician and WWII code breaker Alan Turing;

The Theory of Everything, about astrophysicist

Stephen Hawking and his debilitating affliction

with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease); and Selma,

which focuses on three flashpoint months in

the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

And several actors and actresses are nominat-

ed for performances in these and other films

based on real people, including Bradley Cooper

(American Sniper); Reese Witherspoon and

Laura Dern (Wild); Steve Carell and Mark Ruf-

falo (Foxcatcher); Eddie Redmayne and Felicity

Jones (The Theory of Everything); and Benedict

Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley (The Imita-tion Game). Unbroken, director Angelina Jolie’s

movie adaptation of the inspiring tale of World

War II prisoner of war survivor Louis Zamperi-

ni, is nominated for its cinematography, sound

editing and sound mixing.

WHY WE’RE INSPIRED BY REALITYHoward A. Rodman, a screenwriter, author,

and professor at the School of Cinematic

Arts at the University of Southern California,

says we love movies about real people—espe-

cially when they achieve, make or become

something—because they remind us that we

might be able to do that, too.

“Think of Alan Turing, who is the father of

modern computing—the fact that he was gay in

a time when that was punishable by jail,” Rod-

man says. “Certainly Dr. King, who by intelli-

gence, rhetoric and moral compass was able to

change race relations in the United States…

Stephen Hawking was dealing with

such a debilitating illness but nonethe-

less came up with theories that

change the way we look at the universe.

“The movies about these people celebrate

the very best in us,” he says. “Particularly in

America in a time where upward mobility is

far more restricted than it’s ever been in our his-

tory, they reinforce the sense that those kind of

extraordinary life arcs are still possible. Many of

them are less about ‘Look at these people who

were born genetically gifted and have had to do

nothing but utilize these gifts,’ than about ‘Look

at this person who began as you or I began, and

who overcame adversity in order to do extraor-

dinary things.’ They’re about how, through will

and hard work and vision, somebody not un-

like us can become extraordinary.”

But, Rodman notes, Hollywood moviemak-

ers cautiously keep one eye on awards and

accolades and another on the bank—and usu-

ally not in that order. “Ten months a year, Hol-

lywood seems to make movies about costumed

superheroes; for two months, they make mov-

ies about great men,” he says. “There are films

that are designed to generate great amounts of

money, and then there are films designed to

have prestige, remind us that ‘movies matter’

and get awards.”

Sometimes, a film does both: It hauls in a

wagonload of cash and attracts the attention of

the Hollywood insiders who vote on the

Oscars, the Golden Globes, the Critics Choice

and the Screen Actors Guild awards.

This year, American Sniper was that movie,

setting an all-time record for January box

office attendance and nabbing six Oscar nom-

inations, including Best Picture.

“It’s the one [Oscar nominee] blockbuster,”

how SeroVital worksFirst of , let’s be clear: SeroVital-hgh DOES NOT contain human growth hormone (hGH). It doesn’t work like hGH injections, which introduce a synthetic form of growth hormone into the body, and which some experts fear may upset the natural production of hGH. Instead, SeroVital works on an entirely dif erent principle. It increases hGH naturally in the body by nourishing the pituitary — the gland that manufactures growth hormone — which encourages it to produce hGH at more youthful levels. In fact, in a study of both men and women across a wide age range, SeroVital was clinically shown to increase mean, bioactive, serum (blood) hGH levels by 682%. T e SeroVital formula is so unique it’s been granted not one, but seven United States Patents to protect it from imitators.*

And frankly, anything that may have the possibility of reducing wrinkles, tightening saggy skin, decreasing body fat, increasing lean muscle mass, and boosting mood, while giving you plenty of energy and improving sex drive is, at the very least, irresistible. For the full story on this revolutionary, oral growth hormone booster, visit SeroVital.com. Can’t wait to try it? You can f nd SeroVital at all Ulta stores, Kohl’s, and select GNC locations, or order direct from the manufacturer at 1-800-641-6590 or SeroVital.com. Use promo code HGH296 for free shipping.†

It seems the press can’t stop talking about human growth hormone (hGH). A recent Shape magazine article starts out with a very provocative statement: “When you see a 50-year-old actress who can pass for 35, you can bet that good genes aren’t the only things responsible for her youthful glow.” Allure magazine, in its “Anti-aging Special” issue, highlighted growth hormone as its year-end call-out. And a revolutionary oral growth hormone booster called SeroVital®-hgh has been making headlines. After the famed Dr. Oz himself introduced the research behind SeroVital to his audience and said, “I’ve been searching for this

since the day we started the show. I’ve been looking for ways of increasing hGH naturally because I don’t like getting the injections,” sales of SeroVital skyrocketed... But is SeroVital right for you?

what it’s all aboutGrowth hormone is a single chain peptidehormone that’s manufactured deep within the brain... in the pituitary gland. It’s released into the bloodstream and travels throughout the body. It passes into your fat cells and can actually cause them to shrink. It enters your muscle cells, stimulating lean muscle growth so you look more tight and toned, even if you haven’t been working out. When it reaches the skin it maintains healthy blood f ow, ramps up collagen production and strengthens the underlying substructure of the skin’s critical architecture, keeping your skin f rm, tight and smooth, which is why so many people call hGH the “youth” hormone... and why some experts believe it’s the key to combatting aging.

There’s no denying that something that has a chance of reducing body fat, increasing lean muscle mass, boosting mood, giving you plenty of energy while it

gets rid of wrinkles and tightens saggy skin... making you look and feel decades, not years but DECADES

younger... is, at the very least, irresistible!

writers and filmmakers who decided to embody them.”

Director Tim Burton’s Big Eyes was based on the story of painter Margaret Keane and her husband Walter, who for more than a decade passed himself off as the creator of her kitschy pop art. At a press event to promote the film, actor Christoph Waltz—who portrayed Wal-ter—playfully threw a question about the accuracy of the movie back at the questioner.

“What’s this obsession with true stories?” he asked. “Our work is not the work of biog-raphers or scientists. I’m an actor and Tim’s an artist—that’s a reality.”

Whether true, twisted or just tweaked, there’s still noth-ing like the movies. “A great movie inspires you or thrills you or adds to your life in a way that you want to see it again,” Osborne says.

“Movies have this great mythic power,” Rodman adds. “We’re in a room collectively with a bunch of other people, the lights go down, we see a story, and when we stumble back into daylight, even if we don’t realize it, even if we don’t know it, we’ve been moved—and something has seeped in-to the way we see the world.”

Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz star in Big Eyes, about painter Margaret Keane.

Hearing her speak, you can understand why Bernice King, 51, reminds listeners of her father, the late civil

rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But the chief executive officer of the King Center in

Atlanta has developed her own voice and path since her first public address to the United Nations at age 17. A minister and attorney, she also is an author and media commentator dedicat-ed to mentoring young women.

What were Sundays like for your family when you were growing up? Our Sundays were centered around family and faith. We all ate breakfast together. I remember that we had to recite a Scripture verse

taken from a little white book that had, on its cover, a red heart inscribed with “Let not your heart be troubled.” We also sang a prayer together. We would go to our family’s church, Ebenezer Baptist Church. After church, my whole family, including my dad’s sister and brother and their families and my grand-parents, would often go to dinner at either Piccadilly or Morrison’s. I don’t have a lot of memories of Sundays with my father because I was only five when he was assassinated. However, I do know that whenever he was home, we loved it, because he played games with us and it was our special time with him.

What are your Sundays like today? My Sundays are still about faith and family. Although I am not currently a member of a church, I do visit houses of worship. I sometimes stream a worship service online. During this phase of my life, as CEO of the King Center, I also use my Sundays to rest, relax and prepare for the next phase of my life, which will include launching my own ministry.

What did you think of the movie Selma? It’s an incredible film that brought the Selma story to life. It powerfully conveyed the price that so many people paid, as well as the strategy, struggle and sacrifice that led to the approval of the Voting Rights Act. However, because it is a Hollywood film and not a documentary, one does not expect all the facts to be correct. I think the actors both did great jobs portraying my parents. I wish we could have witnessed more of the loving relationship my parents shared. Furthermore, it would have been great to see the true strength and courage of my mother, as well as the support she provided my father.

If You Bought an Airline Ticket between the U.S. and Asia, Australia, New Zealand, or the Pacific Islands,

You Could Receive Benefits from Class Action SettlementsSettlements have been reached with eight airlines in a class action lawsuit involving the price of airline tickets. The Settling Defendants are: Air France; Cathay Pacific; Japan Airlines; Malaysian Airlines; Qantas; Singapore Airlines; Thai Airways; and Vietnam Airlines.

The lawsuit continues against five Non-Settling Defendant airlines: Air New Zealand; All Nippon Airways (“ANA”); China Airlines (Taiwan); EVA Airways; and Philippines Airlines.

What is the case about? The lawsuit claims that the Defendants agreed to fix prices on tickets for transpacific air travel. As a result, ticket purchasers may have paid more than was necessary. The Settling Defendants deny the allegations, and deny that they have any liability. The Defendant airlines also deny liability, although ANA has pled guilty to fixing the prices of certain discounted tickets.

Am I included? You are included if: (1) you bought a ticket for air travel from one of 26 airlines; (2) the ticket included at least one flight segment between the U.S. and Asia or Oceania; and (3) your purchase was made between January 1, 2000 and the present. A more complete description of eligibility requirements is available at the website or by calling the toll-free number.

What do the Settlements provide? The Settling Defendants have agreed to pay $39,502,000 (the “Settlement Fund”). Money will not be distributed yet, and will be distributed pursuant to a Plan of Allocation approved by the

Court. Additional information is available on the website below. Class Counsel will pursue the lawsuit against the Non-Settling Defendants.

Class Counsel have not requested attorneys’ fees and reimbursement of costs at this time but will do so in connection with the final approval hearing. For the current Settlements, Class Counsel will request up to one-third of the Settlement Fund plus up to $7,500 for each of the class representatives. Class Counsel has asked the Court to set aside an additional $3 million of the Settlement Fund to cover future expenses.

How can I get benefits?Submit a Claim Form online or by mail. The earliest deadline to file a claim is September 19, 2015, but you will have until 120 days after the Settlements become final and effective to file your claim.

What are my rights? If you do nothing, you will be bound by the Settlements and the Court’s decisions. If you want to keep your right to sue the Settling Defendants you must exclude yourself from the classes by April 17, 2015. If you stay in the classes, you may object to the Settlements by April 17, 2015. The Court will hold a hearing on May 22, 2015 to consider whether to approve the Settlements. You or your own lawyer may appear at the hearing at your own expense, but you do not have to attend.

What do you think the movie helped people understand about the civil rights struggle? I believe most people think that the civil rights movement was merely about protests and demonstrations. Hopefully, as a result of the movie, people will now recognize the level of planning and strategy that was an integral part of the movement. Also, it is my hope that the film will inspire people—especially the new activists that have emerged as a result of the recent incidents in our nation—to learn more about other campaigns, such as the Montgomery bus protest, and why they were so successful.Word is you have an impressive shoe collection. I love shoes and I think, deep in their souls, many women have secret love affairs with shoes. Shoes are the ultimate accessory and I think they allow a woman to make a true fashion statement about who she is and what sets her apart from other women. What kind of shoes do you wear and what do they say about you? I wear the kinds of shoes that help me get the job done.

I’ve been following the changing “odds” of various nominees winning an Academy Award. What is it that makes us want to calculate the mathematical ratios of winning or losing in any competition? —Anthony Corapi, Atlanta, Ga.

Americans love contests! But we want to watch them while they’re ongoing, so those changing odds take the place of scores in other kinds of competitions (think football, tennis, etc.—even polls for upcoming elections) and turn the whole mysterious process into a kind of game, with the winner announced at the end, maybe in a surprise come-from-behind victory. And then, ahem, there’s always the fun of creating an opportunity for a little betting among friends, right?
