So, What are gauges??

Gauges are indirect reading instruments. Gauges does not give the exact measurement, but will tell if the part is accepted / rejected. More faster and accurate Suitable for inspecting mass production jobs. Requires minimal inspection skills.

What is Paper Layout gauging?

Paper Gauging is also an inspection technique to ensure produced feature conformance to the engineering drawing. Provides geometric verification through a graphical representation of the collected inspection data.

Why Paper Layout gauging?

Most dimensional inspection techniques measure parts in relation to a square, where as the position tolerance specified using GD&T are round. Paper gauging provides a convenient and accurate method for converting these measured values into the round, polar coordinate system. In short, paper gauging is used to inspect the position of a feature. Paper gauges are made up of plastic material called Myler. 1/4/13

Why Paper Layout gauging?

Most dimensional inspection techniques measure parts in relation to a square, Cartesian coordinate system; where as the position tolerance specified using GD&T are round. Paper gauging provides a convenient and accurate method for converting these measured values into the round, polar coordinate system.

AdvantagesReduces cost and time. - High cost & time for design & manufacturing of functional gauge is eliminated. Inspectors can conduct animmediate, inexpensive functional inspection at theirworkstations. Eliminates gauge tolerance and wear tolerance. - Functional gauge normally allows 10% of the tolerance assigned to the part to be used as gauge tolerance. Often additional wear allowance of up to 5% will be designed into functional gauge. This couldallow upto15% of the part tolerance assigned to the functional gauge.
