Table 1 shows the electron arrangement of atoms of elements P, Q, and R. In anexperiment, a group of students intend to compare the reactivity of P, Q, and R in the

reaction with oxygen gas. A small piece of the metal is heated in a combustion spoon

until it starts burning. The combustion spoon is then lowered into a gas jar of oxygen gasas shown in figure 1.

a. Tabulate all observations expected from the experiment.

[ 3 marks ]

b Arrange the reactivity of the metal with oxygen in descending order.

2. A pupil carried out an experiment to construct the electrochemical series of four

pairs of metals using 0.5 mol dm-3

copper (II) sulphate solution as the electrolyte. The set up of the apparatus of this experiment is shown in Figure 2.

Any pure substance has its own fixed melting point. For example, the

melting point of pure acetamide is 83oC.

You are given two beakers, each containing acetamide A and acetamide B. One

of them is impure acetamide.

Plan an experiment to determine which of the acetamide is pure.

Your planning must include the following items:

(a) Problem statement

(b) All variables involved

(c) Statement of the hypothesis(d) List of materials and apparatus

(e) Experimental procedure

(f) Tabulation of data[ 17 marks ]
