    Grand dad did you breathe

Before air cons were inventedWas it hard staying

    alive without modern inventions?

    Grandma werent you flustered

As you fluttered with paper fans?

    Could you communicate before

    Faxes and long distance calls

    Became basic necessities?

    Grandchild we lived

    Before your age. Because

    of our ignorance,

we did not know pollution, stress, traffic jams

    destruction of forests, streams and

    we feared God and nature

    now nature fears you

    A Fighters Lines

    I am old and worn

and have lost all my strength

sufferingsand the history of the fight for independence

    have forced sacrifices

    that know no name

    of life

from the wheelchair of the rest of my days

    I, body and energy crushed

    see and cannot do much

these times are too big a challenge

for the remnants of my crippled years

the net of deceit spread everywhere

    disturbs me.

    In the name of justice

Wake up and form ranks sons of our ancestors

    Be brave

And erect a wall of people

Stand up heirs of our freedom

    I have no more voice

It is you now who should speak!

    Mr Nobody (Anonymous Author)

I know a funny little man

    As quiet as a mouse,

Who does the mischief that is doneIn everybodys house!

Theres no one ever sees his face,

    And yet we all agree

That every plate we break was cracked

    By Mr. Nobody.

This he who always tears out books,

    Who leaves the door ajar,

He pulls the buttons from our shirts,

    And scatters pins afar;

That squeaking door will always squeak,

    For prithee, dont you see,

We leave the oiling to be done

    By Mr. Nobody.

The finger marks upon the door

    By none of us are made;

We never leave the blinds unclosed,

    To let the curtains fade.

The ink we never spill; the boots

    That lying round you see

Are not our boots, they all belongTo Mr. Nobody.

    THE RIVER

    The rivers a wanderer,

    a nomad, a tramp.

He doesn't choose any one placeto set up his camp.

    The rivers a winder,

    through valley and hill.

    He twists and he turns,

    he just cannot be still.

    The rivers a hoarder

    and he buries down deep

    Those little treasures

    that he wants to keep.

    The rivers a baby,

    he gurgles and hums

    And sounds like

    hes happily sucking his thumbs.

    The rivers a singer,

    as he dances along

    The countryside echoes

    the notes of his song.

    The rivers a monster,

    hungry and vexed

    Hes gobbled up trees

    and hell swallow you next.

Based on The Railway Children by Edith Nesbit, the character that I admire is Peter. Peter

is only 10 years old but he has many positive qualities. We see these qualities in what he says and

    does.

Peter is a clever and quick to stop the 11.29 train from crashing into a landslide. He cuts his

sisters red petticoat into six pieces. Then he and his sisters make six flags with them and some

sticks. They wave the flags and stop the train. They save the train and its passenger.

Peter is also observant and confident that many people in the village will give Perks

presents because he is nice to everybody. He plans to give Perks, the porter at the station, a nice

birthday. He has a clever idea to collect presents from the villagers for perks. The children collectthe presents and give them to Perks. Because of Peters kindness and clever idea, Perks has the

best birthday presents in his life. He is very happy.

I admire Peter because he is alert and brave too. For example, during a paper chase, Jim, the

old gentlemans grandson does not come out of the tunnel for a long time. Peter says Jim is in

danger and goes into the dark and dangerous tunnel to look for him with his sisters.

Peter is also like a scout. He has things like a candle, penknife and matches with him. They

are useful in the tunnel. The children find Jim beside the railway line. He has broken his leg.

Bobbie cuts his boots with the penknife. Then, Peter and Phyllis get some farm workers to carry

    Jim to their house.

One more reason I admire Peter is because he is brave to steal coal to keep the family warm.

When the Station Master catches Peter, he tells him that his sisters do not know anything about

the coal to save them. He is mature and protective. He does not want them to get into trouble. He

wants to be responsible for his action himself.

I admire Peter because he has many positive qualities.

The novel that I have chosen is The Railway Children by Edith Nesbit. It is about 3 children

who have to face difficulties after their father has been accused of being a spy and was imprisoned

    by the government.

One of the moral values that I would like to write is about honesty. They know that their

mother is sad after their father is imprisoned and falls sick. Their mother still holds her dignity ofnot asking any helps from strangers even though they havent got enough food and facilities in

    their house.

Without telling their mother, the children inform an old gentleman who is always travelling

in a train. The old gentleman helps them by providing food and provision to their family. Then, the

children admit to their mother about writing to the old gentleman despite knowing that she would

be upset about it. They give a reason to their mother that they are only asking for help but not

    stealing.

This shows that they are very honest although they feel that is not easy to tell their Mother.

    Answer: (HEP/SEP)

The novel that I have chosen is The Railway Children by Edith Nesbitt The lesson that I have

learnt is that we should always have the courage to speak the truth .This can clearly be seen

through the deeds of the children.

Despite getting into many unsavoury situations the children have always been ready to admittheir mistakes. This is evident when the children are caught stealing coal. Since they are too poor

have a fire in June, the children have to steal some coal from the station yard . Unfortunately,

they are caught by the Station Master. When questioned , Philip reveals that it is his idea to

    steal the coal .

Not wanting Peter to be blamed for stealing , the two sisters, Bobbie and Phyllis step forward to

admit that they too have conspired with him . The sisters tell the Station Master that they do know

where the coal comes from but they pretend not to know . This incident eventually allows them to

get to know the friendly railway workers .

Another incident where the children have taken up the courage to reveal the truth was when they

finally admit to their Mother that they have sought the help of the Old Gentleman .When their

Mother is taken ill, the Doctor has ordered them to acquire several things for her. Since they are

unable to get those things, they have asked helped of the Old Gentleman.

In the nutshell, the lesson I learnt is to always tell the truth. This is important because telling the

truth will make people trust you.

In novel The Railway Children, an event which I think is sad is when Roberta, Peter, Phyllis

and their mother has to leave their house in London and stay in a little white house near a railway

    line in a country.

This is because their life has an awful change when they move to the country. They arehappy before,in London. Roberta, Phyllis and their mother become poor and have to stay in a house

which has no facilities. The children also have to steal the coal at the station yard because the coal

is expensive and they cant afford it. This is very sad.

The novel that I have chosen is The Railway Children by Edith Nesbitt . The place that

I like most in the story is the railway station . There are many interesting things there.

Besides the shining railway lines ,telegraph wires and signals , seeing trains that use coal

for their engines are really interesting .It is also fascinating to see the railway line leading towards

the dark opening of the tunnel . This is because when the railway lines begin to shake ,a train will

come screaming out of the tunnel. According to Bobbie, when the train has gone, it is like a great

wild animal going by! Just like Bobbie, Peter and Pyhllis, I like this place as it is their place of

hope. They believe that this is a magic train and it can send their love to their father.

In a nutshell, I wish I can be there with them to experience all the adventures around the

    railway station.

Based on The Railway Children by Edith Nesbit, one important incident is when Peter

steals coal at the railway station.

In this story, at first Mother and the three children live with Father in London comfortably.

Later, Father is falsely accused and imprisoned for five years for being a spy. The children do not

know about this. They have to cope with sudden poverty and their missing father.

Mother and the children go and live in a small white house in the country beside the

railway. Peter steals coal from the station yard. Then he hides it between some stones and his

sisters help him to carry it home. This incident is important in this story.

One day, the Station Master catches Peter stealing the coal and calls him a thief. Peter tells

the Station Master that he is not stealing. He says that he thought no one would mind as he took

only a little coal. He also says that they are poor.

This incident is important because it shows us that the children are poor and desperate. Coal

is expensive and their mother does not allow them to light a fire in June. But they are cold, so they

steal it. Poverty can drive a person to steal although it is wrong.

This incident shows us the qualities of some characters too. The children try to protect each

other. Peter tells the Station Master that his sister do not know anything about the coal to protect

them. He is mature and wants to be responsible for his action.

The Station Master too, understands that they are children and poverty drives them to steal.

In the end, he warns them and lets them go.

This incident is also important because the children learn that it is wrong to steal. The

Station Master tells them that it is wrong to steal although they are poor.

For all these reasons, the trouble with coal is an important incident in this novel.
