1. b) Clear from the passage as he was unable to see through. 2. d) The bundle that he had used to save face, was the Mayor’s baby, who also got saved in his escaping from fire. 3. b) (a) and (c) can not be convincing arguments to explain the question statement. Between (b) and (d), you choose (b) because (d) would be extrapolation of what is given in the passage. We can understand that the prisoner might have felt like home there, but (b) option is more objective, specific and mentioned in the passage. 4. c) (a) is not correct if you read the passage correctly. (b) is one of the elements of the passage, not what the passage attempts to describe. (d) would be a subjective view of what has been mentioned in the passage. Moreover, there were other things too that the prisoner was doing for e.g. noticing the walls.

So, best choice would be (c).

5. a)

The prisoner familiarized himself with his surroundings. He befriended his natural environment as a means of survival and

to overcome his aloofness. So most appropriate option is (a).

6. d) Check option (a): Too general. Option (b): Again a general statement. Although TV is a learning item and not a luxury, even then TV is not essential for learning. We cannot infer this option. Option (c): Clear from (b) that its wrong. Choice has to be (d).

7. D: "Last week" dictates simple past tense "were." Present perfect "have been" (A) refers to the status now of something already accomplished in the past-e.g. "have been cataloged since last week." Subjunctive present perfect "would have been" (B) is never used in a conditional “If” clause/phrase, only as its complement (“If…, then they would…”). Singular “was” (C) disagrees with plural "books

8. C: With an indirect object, the transitive verb and preposition should be a unit, i.e. "led to" here, like "take from," "give to," etc., uninterrupted by the modifying adverb "eventually." "Who" (E) only applies to people, not inanimate objects like books.

9. D

10. D: "Then" is an adverb indicating time or sequence here. "Than" (A), is a conjunction indicating comparison, e.g. "He is taller than I am" or "We would rather go now than later." When listing three sequential steps as in this sentence, the comma after the first and second steps is correct punctuation; a colon (B) or hyphen (C), is incorrect.

11. C: The correct word choice for this sentence is "disinterested," meaning not personally involved or invested and (presumably) impartial. "Uninterested" means literally not interested, i.e. oblivious or not caring. In this context, they would not pick an "interested" party to judge a contest, and the exclamation mark (B) is inappropriate punctuation.

12. B: "Scram" is a slang word meaning "leave," a more acceptable choice when writing (excepting intentional slang like Mark Twain used in dialogue, narrative, etc.). "Could" (D) means they can leave, whereas "had better" and "should" means they ought to leave

13. D: "Admired" is an acceptable word in writing for the desired meaning, whereas "dug" is slang. "Thought about (B), "thought of" (C), and "gazed at" do not convey the same meaning at all.

14.(D) Solution: D and F have studied in college Z. 15. (C) Solution: A, B and C were students of college Y. 16. (A) Solution: F’s profession is engineering. 17. (A) Solution: E is in the profession of medicines. 18. (D)

Solution: The combination D-Z-Teaching is correct.

19. (D) Solution : Number series is following (n x 2)+1 So the next number will be 31 x 2 +1 =63 20. (B)

22.C

Explanation: Let present age of P and Q be 2x and 3x respectively. Ten years ago, P was half of Q's age ie; x and 2x respectively So solving equation 1 and 2 the answer will be 50.

23. B

Explanation: Let present age of the son =x years Then, present age the man =(x+24) years

Page 9: PAPER 2. General Studies ANSWER KEY 2 Answer Key- updated.pdf · Mangalyaan-The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also called Mangalyaan is a space probe orbiting Mars since 24 September

Given that, in 22 years, man's age will be twice the age of his son ⇒(x+24)+2 = 2(x+2) ⇒ x= 22

24. B

Explanation:We know that angle traced by hour hand in 12 hrs = 360° From 8 to 2, there are 6 hours. Angle traced by the hour hand in 6 hours = 6×360/12=180°

25.A

Explanation: We know that angle traced by hour hand in 12 hrs = 360° Time duration from noon to 10 minutes past 5 = 5 hours 10 minutes =51060=51060 hour =316=316 hour Hence the angle traced by hour hand from noon to 10 minutes past 5 =316×360/12=316×30 =31×5=155°

26. B

Explanation: The hands of a clock coincide 11 times in every 12 hours (Between 11 and 1, they coincide only once, at 12 o'clock). 12:00 am 1:05 am 2:11 am 3:16 am 4:22 am 5:27 am 6:33 am 7:38 am 8:44 am 9:49 am 10:55 am 12:00 pm 1:05 pm 2:11 pm 3:16 pm 4:22 pm 5:27 pm 6:33 pm 7:38 pm 8:44 pm 9:49 pm 10:55 pm Hence the hands coincide 22 times in a day.

27. D

Explanation:61 days = 8 weeks 5 days = 5 odd days Hence if today is Monday, After 61 days, it will be = (Monday + 5 odd days) = Saturday

28. C

Explanation:Remember the leap year rule (Given in the formulas) 1. Every year divisible by 4 is a leap year, if it is not a century. 2. Every 4th century is a leap year, but no other century is a leap year. 800,1200 and 2000 comes in the category of 4th century (such as 400,800,1200,1600,2000 etc). Hence 800,1200 and 2000 are leap years 700 is not a 4th century, but it is a century. Hence it is not a leap year

29. B

Explanation:For a year to have the same calendar with 1990 ,total odd days from 1990 should be 0. Take the year 1992 from the given choices. Total odd days in the period 1990-1991= 2 normal years ≡ 2 x 1 = 2 odd days Take the year 1995 from the given choices. Number of odd days in the period 1990-1994 = 4 normal years + 1 leap year ≡ 4 x 1 + 1 x 2 = 6 odd days Take the year 1996 from the given choices. Number of odd days in the period 1990-1995= 5 normal years + 1 leap year ≡ 5 x 1 + 1 x 2 = 7 odd days ≡ 0 odd days (As we can reduce multiples of 7 from odd days which will not change anything) Though number of odd days in the period 1990-1995 is 0, there is a catch here. 1990 is not a leap year whereas 1996 is a leap year. Hence calendar for 1990 and 1996 will never be the same. Take the year 2001 from the given choices. Number of odd days in the period 1990-2000= 8 normal years + 3 leap years ≡ 8 x 1 + 3 x 2 = 14 odd days ≡ 0 odd days Also, both 1990 and 2001 are normal years. Hence 1990 will have the same calendar as that of 2001

30. A

Explanation :Each number is twice the previous one with 1 added or subtracted alternatively.

31. D

Explanation :We have two series here

34, 37, 40, 43, ... (Increase by 3)

Amount after 11⁄2 years when interest is compounded half-yearly

=P(1+(R/2)100)2T=5000(1+(4/2)100)2×32=5000(1+2100)3=5000(102100)3=5000(102100)(102100)(102100)=50×102×5150×

5150=102×51×5150=51×51×5125=Rs. 5306.04

So the answer is A

36. B

Explanation :Amount after 1 year on Rs. 1600 (deposited on 1st Jan) at 5% when interest calculated half-yearly

=P(1+(R/2)100)2T=1600(1+(5/2)100)2×1=1600(1+140)2=P(1+(R/2)100)2T=1600(1+(5/2)100)2×1=1600(1+140)2

Amount after 1/2 year on Rs. 1600 (deposited on 1st Jul) at 5% when interest calculated half-yearly

=P(1+(R/2)100)2T=1600(1+(5/2)100)2×12=1600(1+140)=P(1+(R/2)100)2T=1600(1+(5/2)100)2×12=1600(1+140)

Total Amount after 1 year

=1600(1+140)2+1600(1+140)=1600(4140)2+1600(4140)=1600(4140)[1+4140]=1600(4140)(8140)=41×81=Rs. 3321=1600(1+

140)2+1600(1+140)=1600(4140)2+1600(4140)=1600(4140)[1+4140]=1600(4140)(8140)=41×81=Rs. 3321

Compound Interest = Rs.3321 - Rs.3200 = Rs.121
