With Sensory Profile, you can determinehow well children ages 3 to 10 processsensory information in everyday situations. You can also profile the sensory system’seffect on functional performance. The resultsof Sensory Profile, when considered with other evaluation data, will give you greaterinsight about the child for diagnostic andintervention planning.
Sensory Profile will help you understand achild’s sensory processing patterns. Items aregrouped by sensory processing, modulation,and behavioral and emotional responses.
The nine factor groupings characterize children by their responsiveness to sensoryinput including:
• Sensory seeking• Emotional reactive• Low endurance/tone• Oral sensory sensitivity • Inattention/distractibility• Poor registration• Sensory sensitivity• Sedentary• Fine motor/perceptual
The development of this evaluation toolwas based on research on over a thousandchildren, including children with disabilities,ADHD, and autism. The manual describesadministration, scoring, and interpretation of scores and provides a worksheet of items and factors relating to ADHD. It also explains the rationale, theory, and development of Sensory Profile.

Harcourt Assessment has established a policy for qualifying individuals, organizations, or agencies to purchase tests. A three-level(A, B, C) classification system differentiates products according to the types of purchasers to whom tests may be sold. Depending onthe Qualifications Level assigned to the product(s) being ordered, the order must also include the following information to qualify anindividual, organization, or agency for test purchase:
Harcourt Assessment publishes a wide variety of tests for all kinds of users—tests that may be administered by paraprofessionals, tests that maybe administered by educational specialists with differing backgrounds in assessments, and tests that require an advanced level of training toadminister and interpret the test results.
Some tests, such as intelligence tests, are restricted to individuals with specific training. Others, such as some checklists of adaptive behaviors,provide examiners with useful information and do not require a great deal of interpretation.
We differentiate assessment products in our catalog by classifying them as A-, B-, or C-level instruments.
Generally, A-level instruments are those that do not require an individual to have advanced training in assessment and interpretation. These typesof tests include products such as School Function Assessment (SFA), Early Reading Diagnostic Assessment (ERDA), and Adolescent/Adult SensoryProfile. There are no special qualifications to order these products.
B-level instruments require more expertise on the part of the examiner than A-level tests. The administration procedures and interpretation oftest results are generally more complex than A-level products. Examples of B-level instruments include products such as Bayley InfantNeurodevelopmental Screener, Miller Assessment for Preschoolers, and Brown Attention–Deficit Disorder Scales for Children.
B-level tests may be purchased by individuals who are certified by a professional organization recognized by Harcourt Assessment to require train-ing and experience in a relevant area of assessment.
These professional organizations include as part of their code of ethics the requirement that practitioners engage in aspects of their professionsthat are within the scope of their competence. Therefore, practitioners who do not have a master’s degree but who have completed specializedtraining or have developed expertise in a specific area (e.g. neurodevelopmental treatment or infant development) may order B-level products toassess skills in the practitioner’s area of expertise.
If you are a member of a professional organization such as the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or the AmericanOccupational Therapy Association (AOTA), you are eligible to purchase B-level products.
B-level tests may also be purchased by individuals with a master’s degree in psychology, education, or a related field with relevant training inassessment.
C-level tests require verification of a doctorate in psychology, education, or a related field or licensure. If you have certification by certain agenciesor national organizations, such as ASHA or NBCOT, you may be able to purchase C-level products based on your training or expertise.
