Work in Bite Sized Chunks To avoid being overwhelmed when confronting a mountain of “stuff”, limit your efforts to an hour at a time.

Tackle the Paper Trail Bills, newspapers, receipts…chances are you have dozens in assorted places. Create a designated “inbox” for important papers—a super simple trick to instantly declutter.

Deal with Dangerous Distractions When decluttering a room, place a “doesn’t belong here” box in the doorway. When for example you find a corkscrew in the lounge, toss it in the box instead of wandering into the kitchen and potentially getting side-tracked (by the coffee machine).

Involve Your Kids Instead of just telling your children to pick up clothes, ask how they would like them categorised. You may think in terms of t-shirts, shorts etc; they may group by colours or seasons. Kids will be more willing to participate in a system they’ve helped create.
