Just Read, Florida! 2018 Summer Literacy Adventure
Reading is a critical component of the learning process, and it is important that students and families make reading a part of their daily routines, especial-ly when school is not in session.
The Summer Literacy Adventure invites you to have your students read as many books as possible this summer. Students, teachers and parents are en-couraged to participate by filling out his or her pledge on the Just Read, Flori-da! website at Summer Literacy Pledge. Following the summer break, the de-partment will recognize the top 10 schools with the highest percentage of par-ticipation.
Below are some additional resources to help with summer reading.
2018 Summer Literacy Adventure Resources – Guidance for how school administrators and teachers may incorporate and promote summer reading opportunities for their school community.
BPS Summer Reads – This district webpage links schools and families to resources for supporting summer reading.
Teaching Books Summer Reading Lists (PreK-Teens) – Teaching Books is a great source for grade level summer reading lists.
Barnes & Noble: Summer Reading Triathlon – Students have the oppor-tunity to earn a free book if they meet the summer reading goal.
Florida Students Achieve – Resources for educating parents on the grade level expectations set by the Florida Standards.
During summer vacation, it is important for students to spend time reading and writing on a regular basis whether the student is a beginning or a profi-cient reader. Research supports that 20 minutes of daily reading beyond the regular reading program significantly increases student reading achievement . Thank you for encouraging your student to read this summer!
