  • Dear Past Panim Leader, We are writing to invite you to join the current leaders of Panim in a gathering of people who are, or had been in the past, involved with Panim el Panim at BJ. This exciting event will take place on Monday, November 2nd from 6:00-8:30PM in the Reception Room at the BJ Community House, 270 West 89th Street. As we approach Panims Bat-Mitzvah year in 2016, we think this is an opportune time to reflect upon the social justice work that has been done at BJ and, most importantly, to talk together about ways to strengthen social justice work within the BJ community. We know that some of you are no longer members of BJ and we value your input. Panims social justice community organizing initiatives have helped mobilize the BJ community to take action that impacts the systems and structures, laws and policies that create suffering and injustice. Some of the many accomplishments, in coalitions with other groups, are listed below. Our goals for this Panim gathering are to:

Reconnect with previous Panim leaders and develop ways to stay in touch. Brainstorm and gain new thinking and new approaches to social justice work at BJ Broaden our thinking about how to strengthen and better infuse social justice work

    throughout the entire BJ community.

We plan to spend much of our time on the last two goals. Rabbi Shuli Passow, the Director of Community Engagement, will help facilitate our discussions. We hope that you will be able to join us at this gathering. Of course, there will be a time to schmooze and eat (a light dinner will be provided) from 6:00- 6:30PM. At 6:30PM we will start the program, which will end by 8:30PM. Please let us know if you can attend by Wedesday, October 28. If you are unable to attend and are interested in talking about these issues, we will arrange for one of the current Panim members to talk with you by phone or in-person (the familiar 1:1). If you would like to do that, please contact Judith Trachtenberg ([email protected]). If you have any questions about this event, please contact Paula Galowitz ([email protected]). We look forward to seeing you.
