About the performance of Face Recognition function Recognition performance varies greatly depending on shooting conditions, i.e., according to factors such as angles, facial expression and lighting, so operation under all conditions cannot be guaranteed. Because the camera searches for faces that are similar to registered faces, there are cases where the faces are not correctly recognized when the registered image and the shooting image varies much. When facial characteristics are similar, particularly between parents and their children or brothers and sisters, the camera may not distinguish the faces.
Partial restrictions on using Panasonic digital video cameras to play AVCHD motion images recorded with the DMC-G5.• AVCHD motion images recorded onto an SD Memory Card or a DVD disc cannot be played on a device that does not support the AVCHD standard. • AVCHD motion images recorded with the image quality set to SH mode (1,280 × 720) cannot be played on AVCHD-compatible digital video cameras. • AVCHD motion images recorded with AVCHD-compatible digital video cameras cannot be played on the DMC-G5. • More detailed information is available on our support site: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/
*1 Use a card with SD Speed Class with "Class4" or higher.*2 Continuous recording exceeding 4GB or 29 min 59 sec is not possible when recording AVCHD in PSH.*3 Videos can be recorded continuously for up to 29 min 59 sec in European PAL areas. Continuous recording exceeding 4GB or 29 min 59 sec is not possible when recording MP4. For Full HD in MP4, the recordable time will drop below 29 min 59 sec.

LUMIX revolutionized the SLR camera in 2008 by eliminating the mirror —
marking the world's fi rst Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) camera.
In addition to making the body and lens smaller and lighter,
the new camera achieved better handling
and higher-quality images and performance.
In 2012, the DMC-G5 took the next major step.
Inheriting all previous innovations,
it added new image rendering capabilities and nimble mobility,
while also optimizing video performance.
Once again, mirrorless technology is driving system camera evolution.

Flow of the Dust Reduction System
04 05
The Venus Engine applies advanced signal
processing to both photos and video, and attains
exceptional noise-reduction performance with the
combination of 3D Noise Reduction (3DNR) and
Multi-process Noise Reduction (MNR) systems. A total of four
CPUs work in tandem to quickly process the digital signals for
these advanced noise reduction systems, and the signals for
1,920 x 1,080 Full-HD progressive video recording and high-
speed burst shooting.
Panasonic has added its original pixel mix technology and the
inherent high speed of the CMOS sensor to the 16.05-megapixel
Digital Live MOS Sensor. Processing is further designed to minimize
noise generation in the new sensor. Finer wiring around the
photodiode achieves a higher aperture ratio, which results in higher
resolution and an excellent S/N ratio while a new high-performance
transistor speeds up signal processing. Taking full advantage of the
Digital Live MOS Sensor and Venus Engine, images can be shot in
low lighting at the high ISO sensitivity setting of 12800.
The HDR function overlays several still images that are
consecutively shot at different exposure levels to produce
a single composite image without blown highlights (over-
exposure) or blocked shadows (under-exposure).
The DMC-G5 features two types of noise reduction: Multi-
process Noise Reduction, which optimizes the noise reduction in
the bright parts of the image for both single* and burst shooting,
and 3D Noise Reduction, which applies optimal noise reduction
by differentiating the edges and the smooth parts of the image
in single shots. This system effectively suppresses the kind of
noise that is typically found in high-sensitivity image recording.*
* Not applicable to video recording.
If dust or other foreign matter were to enter the camera while
changing lenses, it could cling to the image sensor and show
up as a spot in your photos. The Dust Reduction System in the
DMC-G5 helps eliminate this possibility by placing a Supersonic-
Wave Filter in front of the Digital Live MOS Sensor, between
the low-pass fi lter and the shutter. Vibrating vertically around
80,000 times per
second, the fi lter
effectively repels
dust and other
particles.

Lumix G lenses are all developed in-house. Their quality is
inspected by the UA3P Ultra-High Accuracy 3D Profi lometer, an
instrument that was originally developed by Panasonic and is
now used by optical manufacturers
all over the world. Panasonic’s
collaboration with Leica Camera AG
also resulted in stringent quality
standards for these advanced lenses

The DMC-G5 can fi re off up to
about 6 frames per second in full
16.05-megapixel resolution with its
mechanical shutter. Even higher-speed
burst shooting is possible when the
electronic shutter is used, like 20 fps for
capturing race cars and other subjects
that are even diffi cult to see with the
naked eye.
Burst shooting with AF tracking
automatically maintains the focus while
tracking moving subjects. This lets
you capture high-quality images in full
16.05-megapixel resolution at 3.7 fps.
The incredible speed of the
DMC-G5 precisely captures
moving subjects. It features
the world’s fastest level of auto
focusing, called Light Speed AF, which
is achieved by reducing the detection
time for focusing by doubling the
drive speed from 60 to 120 frames
per second.* The DMC-G5’s advanced
Contrast AF system makes sure you
always get the shot you want.

Seizes the Moment.
The DMC-G5 uses the Contrast AF system,
which boasts high accuracy even when
shooting at a small F value. Unlike Phase
Difference AF, which is susceptible to a
mechanical margin of error, focusing in
the DMC-G5’s Contrast AF is controlled
by a system in which the image sensor
doubles as the AF sensor to achieve
precise focusing — and no mechanical
margin of error.
The high-resolution Live View Finder
features the Eye Sensor AF function,
which automatically starts focusing
when you look into the LVF to capture
the spur-of-the-moment. It’s almost
as though the camera understands
your shooting intent and speeds up the
focusing process to help you get the
sharpest, most accurate shot possible.
Full-area focusing in the DMC-G5 lets
you focus on any point in the field of
view. You can freely and intuitively
compose your shots with touch-screen
operation. Full-area Focusing,

In 2008, a small single lens camera made a huge impact. It was called mirrorless, and the brand was Lumix G.
Along with the mirror, it eliminated many of the previous disadvantages of the DSLR.
The mirrorless structure created an entirely new relationship between photographers and cameras.
Having released the world’s fi rst DSLM model,* Lumix G will continue to use advanced technologies to revolutionize cameras.
*The DMC-G1, the world’s fi rst digital single lens mirrorless camera, was introduced on September 12, 2008.
High Image Quality and Mobility from the Mirrorless Design
Revolutionary Lenses from Industry-Leading Technologies
High-Speed, High-Precision AF Opens a New Domain for the Single Lens Camera
High-Performance Video Made Possible by Panasonic, the Camcorder Developer and Manufacturer
The mirrorless structure of Lumix G made it possible to shorten the fl ange back
distance to about half that of previous models, while also reducing the diameter
of the lens mount. This has downsized both the body and the lens. Using high-
precision lenses that bring the light on a straight path to the image sensor
preserves the high inherent image quality, providing optimal photo
quality with more agile mobility.
An auto focus system with top-level speed has been achieved by increasing both the focusing and
lens drive speed. The Contrast AF system also enables Full Area Touch Focusing, a feature that
wasn't possible with conventional single lens models because of the limited AF points. Lumix G lets
you capture even the most fl eeting images in all their natural
beauty, while also providing free and easy framing with high
precision and virtually unlimited AF points.
The use of a special heat-dissipating design for video recording provides long-time shooting of high-quality
images. By pursuing seamless operation of both still and video recording right from the design stage, engineers
were able to attain Full-HD quality throughout. As a result, the video industry has also given a warm welcome
and high acclaim to Lumix G.
