If you have just moved in and have boxes, please flatten and place them in between your recycle and trash bins. This will ensure they get picked up on your trash day. Excess trash may not be placed in the boxes for pickup.

Any excess trash or bulk items must be secured and placed next to your trash bin on your designated trash day to be picked up. If possible, please bag the larger items.

SWIMMING POOLSIt’s that time of the year again! Lincoln Military Housing Pool season will officially begin on April 19th. Pools’ schedule is as follow:April 19th - 12:00pm-6:00pm 7 days a week.May - 11:00am-8:00pm 7 days a week.

Please note that anyone under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. With permission from a parent, children between the ages of 10-13 may take an optional swim test, and if they pass they will have permission to visit Lincoln Pools with or without being accompanied by an adult. Upon your first visit to the pool you will receive a 2014 Pool Pass.

Residents must always remember to have a pool pass along with a Military ID card to gain access to any of the Housing Pools.

Think so you don’t sink - Please remember that the use of floatation devices cannot replace parental supervision, therefore; please ensure that devices in the pool areas are Coast Guard approved.

Be cool and follow the rules – Pool rules are posted for your review.

Too much sun is no fun – Always come prepared to the pools with sunscreen and lots of water.

Remember – Per Lincoln Housing Policy, 2 guests per household are allowed entrance to the pool. If you should have any questions, please refer them to Missy Estrada (Head Lifeguard) at [email protected] or call (760) 368-4021.

PCS SEASONPCS season is upon us which means heavy move out traffic. If you are planning on vacating housing please remember to notify your housing office. Service members must fill out Intent to Vacate or spouse may do so with a power of attorney. Please note that your lease agreement it states that “residents are responsible for giving a full 30 day notice when vacating quarters.” So please remember to give your notice on time. Residents that do not give a full 30 day notice will be held rent responsible for the full 30days. If residents have PCS or deployment orders, it is recommended that you bring copies to the office on the day they are received.

MAINTENANCEHVAC FILTERS: The air conditioning filter(s) in your dwelling should be changed every 30 days to insure proper performance of heating and air conditioning units.For All Maintenance Requests call our 24-hour Service Center at 1(888) 578-4141.

TRASH AND RECYCLINGWaste management and recycling are extremely important in housing to avoid pests and sanitation issues. To receive the best trash service possible, please be sure to follow the base guidelines.

All trash and recycle bins must be put out on the curb no later than 0600 on your designated trash day and must be returned to its designated area no later than 1800 that same day.

Recycle bins must contain recyclable items only. Waste management will not empty your recycle bin if solid waste has been added.

The trash in your bin must be bagged. If not, your bin will be skipped

May 4 - 10, 2015 is the National Turn Off TV Week. The purpose of this week is to re-think the role of television, why we use it and how and what for. This is in addition to assessing its impact on students, teachers, parents, children, individuals, etc. The nonprofit organization TV-Free America asks that you use this week to reassess the role TV lays in your daily lives as entertainer, pacifier, babysitter, time filler and background noise. There is a very easy way to participate in Turn Off TV Week, simply switch off or unplug your TV set for seven days and engage in a wide range of substitute activities. We have included a list of activities that not only supports Turn Off TV Week, but also provides ideas and activities that do not use electricity and are “green”.

• Instead of driving in your car for neighborhood errands, go for a bike ride and save money on gas.

• Instead of playing video games, play a board game with the family, saving electricity and energy as well as creating family unity.

• Instead of getting on the computer, read a good (used or library) book saving electricity and energy.

• Instead of watching Animal Planet on TV, take a trip to the Zoo.

• Instead of watching TV, go out into your community and volunteer! There are many great organizations that support “living green”.

MAY - Turn off TV Week

Throw on eco-friendly threads – Organic cotton is breathable, absorbent and available in everything from sports bras to socks.

Eco Yoga – Green up your downward dog with a biodegradable yoga mat.

Make your own energy bars – Dump wasteful packaging and worrying about additives, and save a little money! Fuel up with homemade recipes. Buy in bulk or mix your own sports drinks too. Visit http://www.recumbent-bikes-truth-for-you.com/recipes.html to find a recipe.

BYO Bottle – More than 60 million disposable bottles end up in trash heaps every day. Help cut down on that enormous pile of plastic by re-using. Or even better, dump the bottle and find a stainless steel water bottle, one made with polycarbonate, or any plastic that is BPA Free.

Reduce your carbon footprint by making a few of your own – Instead of driving to the gym, run or walk there for a great (cheap) warm-up. If the gym’s too far, try biking or carpooling. Keep your workout clothes in the car to cut down on extra stops and gas.

Take it to the streets – What’s more green than the great outdoors? With hills and wind providing resistance running and walking on the road can burn more calories than a treadmill. Other activities such as kayaking, hiking and rock climbing can help fend off workout boredom.

Disconnect – Go unplugged. A balance ball, resistance band, and glider plates can give you an excellent all-around workout – and you can take them anywhere. Plus, using your body instead of a machine for resistance is oh-so green.

Recycle: it’s good for your soles – As the miles add up, so does the war on your favorite cross-trainers. There are many businesses (including Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe) that repurpose worn-out athletic shoes of any brand into sports courts, tracks, and flooring.
