Course Description: This curriculum covers multiple
company operations, logistics, strategy, use of mutual aid
services and operations at complex buildings. The course is
intended for officers who may be in command of fires and
other emergencies involving close coordination and
maximum use of large amounts of personnel and equipment.
Risk management planning and critical thinking skills are
stressed.
Course Requirements: Students meet for 40 contact
hours & 8 hour off-site research project.
Course Offering: Students can take this course for
College Credit as part of the Fire Science Technology A.S.
Degree or for Continuing Education if College Credit is not
needed.

Course Description: This course is designed to show
the arson investigator the different forms of matter and
energy, common substances, and how they relate to fires.
The chemical formulas of flammable and combustible
substances, their bonding’s and separations, as well as the
different chemical reactions related to fire and oxidation
are covered. Particular emphasis is placed on the specific
substances used by arsonists to ignite and accelerate
burnings.

E.V.O.C. Emergency Vehicle Operator’s Course
Course Description: For career and volunteer Firefighter’s, EMT’s and
Paramedic students. Students must possess a valid
driver’s license and are expected to have a firm
understanding of basic driver theory/functions. This
two day 16 hour course consists of 8 hours lecture and 8
hours driving techniques. This class provides the
individual with the skills necessary to operate an
emergency response vehicle under emergency and non-
emergency driving conditions. This course is designed to
enhance the driver’s situational awareness, overcome
adverse driving conditions and respond to unplanned
changes in traffic patterns. This course meets all EVOC
requirements as set forth by the VFIS and is FCDICE
approved.

The curriculum will cover the laws, rules, & driving techniques for emergency vehicles, as well as basic fireground hydraulics. Fireground evolutions are a large component of the practical portion on the course. The evolutions include use of preconnected lines, tandem pumping, drafting, relays, and master streams. Student should have a basic understanding of fire stream hydraulics as demonstrated in Firefighter I and Firefighter II prior to registering.

This class will give the student an understanding for practical ladder applications and techniques beyond the minimum standards requirements, increasing efficiency and safety. The lecture will discuss the equipment and materials utilized during the hands on drills and will allow each student to apply these techniques practically during emergency situations.
Students will learn multiple ladders raises and techniques including chicken wing, ally raise, upside down balcony raise, marquee and shoot raise, ground ladder victim removals, hoisting, alternative leg and arm locks, and climbing techniques. This class was formerly When Things Go Bad: Unconventional Ground Ladders.
REQUIRED TEXT & MATERIALS: Students must provide their own PPE including SCBA. Long pants and closed shoes must be worn on the drill grounds.

This program will cover the required subject areas for taking the State Bureau of Fire Standards & Training
examination for certification as a Firesafety Inspector. Attendance is mandatory due to the condensed and
accelerated nature of this program. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. PREREQUISITE: Students must complete a MDC admission/readmission credit application and be in good standing. All first-
time students must pay a $30.00 non-refundable application fee. For degree-seeking students, the program code is 27018 (Financial Aid will only pay for these courses if you are degree-seeking). For non-degree seeking students, the program code
is 30170 or 30171. Presently, tuition per college credit is $118.22 and $354.66 for each 3 credits. (Effective July 1st, 2019, tuition will be increased). Tuition for all five (3-credit) classes will be $1,773.30. Individual student fees must be paid prior to
class attendance. The College does not accept partial payment. If you register for all 3 classes, you must pay for all at one time.

Course Overview
As the forcible entry team, you have the pressure of the entire fire ground on you. The door must be opened to allow searches and hose advancement to happen. This class will give you the confidence as if you have the “keys to the city” when faced with any forcible entry challenge.
Students will start with the basics and progress towards real world forcible entry challenges. Participants will have a great understanding on the “whys” of forcible entry. This class is 100% conventional techniques and will focus on repetition to build a good forcible entry foundation. Our through-the-lock and passive entry rotation will be hands-on and detailed, insuring participants have a sound understanding of pulling and manipulating locks. Students will end the day with a live smoke forcible entry scenario, forcing several doors in tight quarters.
This class is for any firefighter or fire officer wanting to know the details in forcible entry and will give them the skill to tackle any challenge.

A Certified Firefighter who has not been employed for 4 years from last date of employment or date of certification, or maintained a current and valid fire service instructor certificate, instruct at least 40 hours during the 4 year period and provide proof of such instruction to the division, which proof must be registered in an electronic database designated by the division, or successfully complete a refresher course consisting of a minimum of 40 hours of training to be prescribed by rule or within 6 months before the 4 year period expires, and shall successfully retake and pass the minimum Standards Practical Course Examination. An Application for Practical Examination for Retention of Firefighter Certification Form (DFS-K4-1308) is required, along with the Medical Examination (DFS-K4-1022). The retention examination is offered four times a year at the Florida State Fire College. Please contact the Bureau of Fire Standards for an application. Please refer to the testing Schedule for test dates.. Please note, you are required to submit fingerprints (digitally) with the Application for Practical Examination for Retention of Firefighter Certification Form (DFS-K4-1308) For volunteer firefighter, the certified firefighter must be active for a cumulative six months within a 4 year period.

This 4 hour class will certify that the Firefighter has live fire experience using single and multi- company operations and will fill the requirements in ISO required training. Those
students who need experience as Adjunct Live Fire Instructors, Safety Officers and Incident Commanders may pre-register and be assigned on an as needed basis. Individual certificates
documenting experience will be issued upon successful completion. All Students are required to be at the 9:00am safety briefing or they will not be allowed
to participate in the live burn. They will be issued certificates in hose line operations.

The forty-hour FLUSAR VMR course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge to satisfy the requirements of NFPA 1670. Upon completion of the course, the student will have knowledge of extrication procedures used to remove a victim from entangle-ment from a passenger vehicle on its roof and side, along with the procedures to extricate from large com-mercial vehicles. The student will also be able to re-move a victim from machinery entanglement. This is a hands on course with more than 75% of the student's time spent in the drill field.
