Halfway between Jacksonville and Orlando, the city lies on the southernmost navigable point of St. John’s River. e river has historically served as the community’s lifeblood, driving its growth and development and providing it with tremendous natural resources. Palatka is defined by nature, and everyday pastoral scenes include sunrises over glistening water, canopies of live oaks with Spanish moss waving in the breeze, bald eagles soaring across a deep blue sky, and alligators soaking in a lush green pond blanketed by lily pads. Palatka’s “nature” goes much deeper than that however, with a rich Floridian history, stately historic architecture, and a creative and active people. Arnett Muldrow was hired by Palatka Main Street in 2011 to create a community identity and marketing strategy. Graphically, the brand sought to highlight the river and nature, using organic imagery and typefaces creating a composition that “flows” with the town’s name. e market position provided a foundation whereby that natural imagery could open the door to tell Palatka’s broader story. For Palatka, its nature is in its history, its environment, and its creativity. e tag line – “It’s our nature” gives them the ability to tell that story, focusing on the community’s natural assets, the hospitality of its people, and its deep respect and stewardship of the land.
