BEFORE YOU PAINT:- Remove pictures, nails, hooks, curtains, rods, tables, chairs, light

fi ttings, door handles etc.

- Put all the big furniture pieces in the centre of the room and coverwith a drop sheet.

- Put masking tape over the skirting boards and cover fl oors toprotect against paint spots.

HOW TO HANG A DOOR

THE BENEFITS OF FORT KNOX LOCKS

Fort Knox has modi ed the typical 2 lever lock. Theyve made the new lock body from Fiber Tech Nylon, allowing for a variety of benets including: precision, rust resistance and the simplistic design prevents the lock from jamming.

The world-wide launch of this nylon and aluminium lock, is brought to you exclusively by CASHBUILD.

VERY DIFFICULTPROJECT RATING:

STEP 1- Make sure that the door is the right way round.- A new door should indicate the side on whichthe handle/lock is to be fitted.

- Then cut the door to fi t the door frame.- Position and wedge the door in the opening to

check the fi t. Wedge the door at the top and bottomto the correct height for clearance.

STEP 2- Position the hinge against the door. Mark both the

door and frame with a pencil for the top and bottomof each hinge.

- The hinges should be set approximately 175mmfrom the top and 250mm from the bottom of thedoor.

STEP 3- Remove the door and place on a level surface with

the hinge edge upwards.- Lay the opened hinge against the pencil marks

and mark the edge of the hinge with a pencil.- Repeat for the other hinge.

STEP 4- Measure the thickness of the plate and mark this on

the door face with a pencil line.- Using a sharp chisel, cut out the shape of the hinge

by tapping with a mallet. Remember to bear in mindthat the pencil line is outside the hinge so you willneed to cut inside the line.

- Use the chisel to take out the cutting.

STEP 5- Use the hinge as a template to drill pilot holes for

the hinge screws.- Mark the hole position in the middle of the hinge

with a pencil. Use 25mm wood screws to attachthe hinge to the frame.

- Position the door back into the door frame.- Mark the screw positions in the frame and drill.

STEP 6- To insert a mortice lock, fi rst drill a series of holes in

a straight line. Chisel out between the holes.- Stand the door on edge with the latch-side facing

up. Use the lock or template provided to locatethe mortice holes. Mark the centre of the holes.

- Drill the holes with a fl at centre drill bit. Chisel out between the holes to square off the mortice.

- Chisel a shallow recess for the lock plate.
