Deciding to come back to Shelbyville after 20 years in retail management was easy. Finding a job proved to be a bit more of

a challenge. Four years later, Kevin Cameruca is certain PK U.S.A. is where he is meant to be.

“I have four boys, my two older boys are out west working, and my two younger boys, Vincent and Kyle, are in Shelbyville. I knew my time in retail management was coming to

a close, and this was a sign to head north from Cincinnati to be closer to my kids. Heading to their hometown just made sense. So my job hunt began in Shelbyville.”

Kevin had worked as a General Manager for Ashley Home Stores for over 20 years. “Working in retail is a completely different atmosphere. Those I worked with, and worked for, were constantly looking for ways to stay fresh and relevant, which is part of the retail world. My main focus at Ashley was opening new stores and phasing out those stores that were no longer performing at a profit. Not always a pleasant task, but one that has to be done,” comments Kevin.

As Ashley began phasing out stores, they also began phasing out managers, and Kevin was one of them. “It is normal practice in retail to move managers around or simply get rid of them. Part of keeping up on trends and styles in retail is bringing in fresh ideas and new people, and I was okay with that.”

Once Kevin arrived in Shelbyville, the job search began. “Once I interviewed at PK, I knew this is where I wanted to be.” Hired in as a Senior Resource Specialist, Kevin quickly learned that manufacturing was a unique, and very different environment from retail. “I really do love the people here at PK. I enjoy helping people, and learning new idea and techniques to do my job effectively. Karen Jackson and Erin Small have been lifesavers, helping me along to the way to mold my position into what it is today. I still have a lot of learning to do, but they are always here to help.”

Kevin’s tasks include orientation for new associates, working with associates who have personal and family issues, ensuring production is being handled in each associate position and being the point of contact for those who move on to other internal positions or those who are leaving the company. “I learned very quickly at PK U.S.A., the associates are my customers, and I do all I can to help them through transitions necessary for them to work productively.”

The biggest challenge at PK U.S.A. is one familiar across the Midwest, hiring good workers. “Virtually anyone can come to PK and create a career here. There are so many opportunities for personal growth within this company. Plus, issues are listened to, and can be fixed. Unlike my time in the retail world where things seemed insurmountable and often were, we can listen and adjust to create better processes

and techniques to accomplish a job. People here want to help each other, and there’s nothing better than working where you can help, listen and learn.”

PK U.S.A. offers scholarship opportunities for you and your family. Carlos is just one of our most recent recipients, and all of us at PK could not be more proud of his hard work and efforts. Scholarships open up opportunities for so many who would like to further their education and skill sets. Need more information? Get with Sandy Lacy for details.

Memorial Day is almost here. Even though we always think of cookouts and a race that happens in Indy .... it’s also a time to reflect on those who have passed before us. Visit the PK U.S.A. Memorial Garden this month. A beautiful place to visit and reflect.

CARLOS SHATON RIVERA JR. CENTRAL INDIANA - PK U.S.A., INC. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP APPRECIATION LETTER

I would like to thank the community of PK USA, Inc. for donating such a generous amount to help fund my education. For this reason, I feel the need to write a letter explaining how grateful I am for everyone who was involved in this funding. With this, I will push my way through the hurdles before me as I make sure it will not go to waste. My education will be a stepping stone towards my future to make the world a safer place. To help better understand who I am, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Carlos Shaton Rivera Jr. and I am a freshman in Ivy Tech Community College. I’ve lived most my life dedicated to computers and vehicles ever since I was a child, you could say it was more of an addiction. With more interest with computers I always wondered how something so small can deal with so much power. Thus created curiosity to see how I could make it better, how I can break any part down and figure out how to make it better. I specialize in ethical hacking and every day I learn more about how many holes we have in our “secure network”. This is a known problem in the world and can be avoided by taking precautions. My goal is to graduate with a 4 year masters degree in computer science and become a member of cyber security. This is much needed for recent hacking have been happening worldwide exposing personal information to the outside world. For Ivy Tech where I’m only taking two years of general knowledge, I will be transferring to Vincennes University for four years to study more into my career. Because of your donation, I’ve come closer to living my dream of becoming just that. The only way I can repay you is to work my hardest and not let your donation be in vein. Nothing will stop me from what I stride for because I too have had my identity stolen and it’s a very tedious task to overcome. Since a child I’ve always had a knack for finding loopholes and figuring out a way to patch them so nothing could ever happen that might seem vicious in any manner. I do not want others to go through the things I have and hope to protect them from any technology security breaches. I will always be grateful for your decision to place your trust in me. Signed, ~Carlos S. Rivera Jr.
