Wellbeing Week provides the opportunity for all students and staff to promote an overall awareness for the various aspects of wellbeing, including social, physical, emotional, community and environmental wellbeing. Thank you to Mrs Bevis and the SRC for looking after the staff as well! The Assistant Principals and myself have thoroughly enjoyed meeting the Kindergarten enrolments for 2020 over the past two weeks. They usually say nothing or don’t stop talking! This has been an effective way for new families to get to know the school and for our siblings the opportunity to have their own special tour. NAPLAN results were sent home with students in Year 3 and 5 last week. Congratulations to all students for their achievements and doing their best and to their teachers for ensuring a calm manner and attitude towards NAPLAN this year, particularly as we completed it online for the first time. I will present highlights of the school results at the November P&C meeting, Last Thursday Mrs Arthur presented a Cybersafety Parent Workshop after school. It was an informative session for parents with tips about how to manage screen time and appropriate use of online resources. Thank you Mrs Arthur for supporting our parents and carers. This is the last week of Term 3 before two weeks of holidays. Thank you to the staff, students and parents for a wonderful term of learning and exciting opportunities. Work is scheduled to begin on our new playground during the break. During Term 4 work is scheduled to commence on our new student toilet block. This will be built in the space between the hall and library and will be a welcome facility for Pagewood. The current toilets will remain in place until the completion of the amenities which is likely to be at the end of Term 1 2020. Students will return to school on Monday 14 October in full summer uniform. I wish all of our students and families a safe and relaxing holiday break! NUMERACY SESSION WITH JOHN RILEY

John Riley has been a Learning Support Teacher for over 20 years. This Friday, September

27 he will be running a session to assist parents in providing mathematical assistance for

students in Years 4-6. The session will take place from 9:15am until approximately

10:15am in the Library. Please email Mrs Bevis to notify if you wish to attend.

UNIFORM SHOP

Now is a good time to order summer uniforms if you need to. The next uniform open day will be Term 4 Week 1 but in the meantime orders can be left at the office anytime with correct money or credit card details. The Uniform Shop opens every second Thursday from 9:15am to 9:45am. Our lovely parent volunteers will open the uniform shop on Thursday 17 October at 9:15am and then fortnightly. Students should return to school after the holidays in full summer uniform. YEAR 6 FUNDRAISING DISCO & MUFTI DAY On the 18th of October, the first Friday back to school, Year Six will be hosting a ‘Welcome to Term 4 Disco’. It will be in the afternoon session, with K-2 attending from 1:50pm to 2:30pm and 3-6 attending from 2:30pm to 3:15pm. Students will be allowed to wear mufti to school that day for a gold coin donation which will be collected in the morning. Additionally, you will be able to purchase ice blocks for $1 and glow sticks for 50c each. The money will be going towards our Year 6 Fun Day out. We’ll be sure to see you there, we are going to make it lots of fun! Thank you from Sophie, Amelie, Jemma and the rest of Year 6! INTERRELATE On Monday 18 November there will be workshops available for parents and their children after school provided at a cost by INTERRELATE. INTERRELATE have been teaching sexuality and relationship education to young people and their parents for over 90 years and have a reputation for non-discriminatory and open teaching on sensitive issues. Their primary programs cover issues including sexuality, gender identity, bullying awareness and respectful relationships. Further information will be sent home at the beginning of next term for Years 3-6.

SCHOOL FUNDRAISING Christmas is coming and we have the perfect gifts for extended family members! The Pagewood Public School staff would love to purchase some new resources to enhance our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) programs. Each student will be creating an artwork which will then be printed onto a range of high quality keepsakes including calendars, tote bags, notebooks, diaries, greeting cards and more! Artworks will be displayed in classroom windows during Week 3 of Term 4, and orders can be placed online at www.crazycamel.com.au/13898 from 14th October - 4th November. Examples of the keepsakes available are displayed in the front office. Please see the attached flyer for further information.

CANTEEN MENU FROM TERM 4 There will be a new Canteen Menu for Term 4. Please see a copy of the new menu at the back of this newsletter to print for

your fridge.

FROM TERM 4 CRICKET NSW ‘FREE HIT’ DAY Cricket NSW are running a 'Free Hit' Day on Sunday 13th October at Rowland Park. As Pagewood Public School recently participated in the Mascot Challenge and Stage Two School Cup, they would like to invite all students to come along for the day. It is an opportunity to expand on the cricket skills learnt at school, and see what club cricket can offer them. They are expecting to have a player appearance and a number of Sydney Sixers activities for the kids to participate in, including a sausage sizzle and giveaways. START COLLECTING PLASTIC BOTTLE LIDS…

During Term 4 all classes will be involved working with an art teacher to create works to further enhance our beautiful school. Some classes will be recycling plastic bottle lids to create a mosaic and we need your help! Please start collecting over the holidays and bring them into school first week back. They will need to be thoroughly washed and dried. Examples include milk bottle lids, yoghurts with plastic lids, squeeze yoghurt top, cream lids and soft drink lids. We need all different sizes and colours to make it interesting. Please give your lids to your class teacher.

PPS P&C (Parents and Citizens) News

Please collect your prizes before we close for 2 weeks!

THANK YOU!

Raffle winners - We will call you to arrange a time for collection of your prize

Raffle class prize - Drum roll.... our winning class will be announced at assembly this week!

Silent Auction winners - We will contact you via email to arrange for collection of your items

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Market Carnival such a wonderful day. Huge crowds, spectacular performances,

thrilling rides, fabulous food, sensational silent auction and a roaring trade for all the stalls! Check out our Facebook page to see

some great pictures from the day https://www.facebook.com/PPSMarketCarnival/

A huge thanks goes to the Market Carnival Committee, Nicky, Bek, Andigone, Meg, Annette, Alysia, Sharon and Jess, who

embraced the challenges with grace and good humour. They can go back to their families and normal jobs now this one is done!

The support provided by the school was exceptional. Our Principal Nicole, the office staff, and the teachers were amazing. It

was a gripping countdown for the online silent auction finish. Can you believe that two of our fabulous class artwork

masterpieces sold for $400 each!

An enormous thank you also to all the school families who worked so hard volunteering on the fabulous variety of class stalls,

donating goods, selling and buying raffle tickets, delivering pamphlets and putting up posters.

We’re still balancing the books, but it’s fair to say that the money raised by the carnival exceeded expectations. If you want to

find out how much, see you at the next P&C meeting! Too long? OK we’ll announce it soon, we promise!

So many businesses and people generously sponsored and donated fabulous prizes to our raffle, silent auction and goods for our

class stalls. Please see over for our thankyou list. Sincere apologies if I missed anyone.

We have collectively done a fabulous job to raise funds to resource our growing school. What a lovely community, it’s no

wonder everyone wants to come here!

With thanks, Juliet

Market Carnival Coordinator
